Amidst all the Game of the Year insanity that typically assaults the Internet during the last few weeks of the year, it's important to recognize the smaller, less technically inclined games that are still worthy of praise.

One of them is the recently released PixelJunk Shooter, which is arguably the best entry in the kooky yet slick downloadable franchise. I was a little concerned that due to the attention all the biggest and best were getting, entertaining titles like this would fall by the wayside. Well, although we don't have the exact numbers, we do know that PixelJunk Shooter has topped the "Most Downloaded" list for the PlayStation Network. As revealed by Examiner.com, it sits atop the list that perhaps surprisingly sees Frogger Returns in the #2 slot and the PS1 classic, Resident Evil 3, at #3. Last week, before Q Games' latest arrived, Call of Duty Classic was the top download, but that has now fallen down to sixth position, behind two more PS1 titles, Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy VIII. Other notables include DLC for Rock Band, the Eye of Indra 3 and 4 for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and games Madden NFL Arcade and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. It really is a great time to be perusing the PSN; 2009 has been an awesome year for extra content and excellent new digital titles. There's gotta be something on there you want.
