PSXE Poll: inFamous Simply Doesn't Get Enough Attention
Depending on how you look at it, any number of games in 2009 could qualify as the "most under-appreciated," but you guys are definitely leaning in a certain direction.
While Killzone 2 and Demon's Souls made good showings, the majority believe that Sucker Punch's awesome inFamous has gone most under-appreciated since its launch earlier this year. It's certainly one of the best new IPs on the market and really surprised a lot of people when it arrived. It remains one of my favorites of the year and I believe it also received the Best New IP award from IGN; the latter is the type of praise this game needed. It didn't sell particularly badly but it's almost as if we stopped hearing anything about it a mere month after it hit store shelves. The game featured a GTA-like sandbox environment coupled with slick superhero powers and a dark storyline that was particularly impressive for such a title. It was just a ton of fun to play and with KZ2 and Demon's Souls pulling down some high acclaim in year-ending awards, perhaps it's even more fitting that inFamous won. We'll definitely be looking for more info on what we have to assume is inFamous 2, currently in development at Sucker Punch studios.
But now we're pulling the reverse: speaking from a review score standpoint now (less about popularity, as this previous poll was), what game do you believe has been unfairly praised? In other words, what's the most overrated game of 2009 in your eyes? Is it the spectacular Uncharted 2? Killzone 2? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? What? Vote now.

DS is the true GOTY and one of the most under appreciated of this gen.
Now, let us not just blame that on the consumer...publishers were hesitant to distribute it outside of Asia...it STILL has no Europe date.
Sickening.

in short, you just have to be patient, and be smart and persistant, regardless, this game is the most addictive rpg i have played this gen, and has the most addictive character development. should definitely win RPG of the year, and InFamous is the action of the year.

The story was deep and intelligent, similarly told like a Team ICO game, it's a more arthouse tale and that's probably why some just can't understand the story and think it lacks in that area...its just not aimed at you, you probably just prefer spoonfeeding or traditional anime/manga type.

I voted KZ2. Its one of the few recent FPSs that moved the genre forward instead of standing still (cough*MW2*cough*), and it pulled it off perfectly.

As for the most overrated game of the year, to me it's Call of Duty MW2. I know I'm going to get some heat from some people but i really don't think it is as good as the hype surrounding it. I spent a few weeks playing MW2 at a friends house, the story was a little short for my liking, but it was alright, nothing to write home about. I honestly feel that story leaves you a bit sour because it isn't as engaging as some other games. I really never got emotionally invested into the character and story, i just enjoyed blowing things up and taking out huge amounts of enemies, which of course is really cool, i don't mind the swards at all, bring it on! haha With that said, despite the fun you can get from shooting people left and write, i really never cared to focus on the story. Heck i know some people who really didn't play the story until later on after they got their fixation of online play. What really awarded the game for such high accolades and immense popularity, in my opinion, is the online. Take that single component away from MW2 and there really isn't much, let's be honest. Does it deserve such high accolades because of online play? I feel that it should be awarded such prestige if it sold as an online experience solely. If anything they should promote the game as an online game with an addition of a shot campaign mode, because it really is all about the online. In all honesty, the online is great and deserves recognition for their great online gameplay, but the story was not to strong. Maybe that's the reason for some of the strong reviews? The strong online experience. Don't get me wrong, the campaign is good, it's not bad at all, it's fun, engaging, and provides a lot of thrill, but does it compare to some of the other games I've played? Not to me.
But I'm sure everyone has a different stand on this, I'm just discussing my own personal opinion about the game. To some it may be the greatest game ever created, to others it might just be one fun online game, and to others, like me, it really wasn't what it was hyped up to be.

If anything due to it popularity, (and the thinking among some gamers that if a game sells too well, then it simply can't be good) it's been put under a microscope and analyzed more than any other game......and it's held up extremely well. It IS what people are playing.
In fact, the jump between MW1 and MW2 is more significant than say, the differences in God Of War 1&2. Sometimes more of the same is what's wanted and what's best, and that is not a bad thing.
Sure MW2 will win "most overrated game" here. But that's only because the majority don't know the difference between "overrated" and "overexposed".

agree with both of you 100%.
I voted street fighter 4 also. not because it was a horrible game necessarily because i sat down and played it and at times enjoyed it. But If your going to make a fighting game make it fresh and new, please! I mean we are in a genreation where everything is pushing forward, and i got a fighter i experienced 10 years ago! Its definitely an old system that works but honestly it didnt cut it to me! but again at times i did enjoy it!
As far as MW2 goes in my opinion the people got what they asked for, and it shows in sales, and the review scores prove its a worthy game! Appaently when a game sells well that makes it overrated, or if it has a 360 logo stamped on it, or its an FPS in general, except KZ2 of course!

Now i hope some of you read this carefully, I'm not bashing MW2, I'm not one of those who just hate it to hate it, i love games, and i think MW2 is a great buy, but because of the online, not because of the campaign, which was relatively short and left a sour taste in my mouth. The reason i feel that it is the most overrated is because of all the hype surrounding it, and to me it didn't live up to that hype. If you were to ask me to choose between MW and MW2, I would pick MW. If you're asking me to choose between the online components, then it would be MW2 by a slight margin, because it really isn't that much different, except for a few things which sway me over to MW2 online.

i know what your trying to say, i get it. And i seen that 46% of the votes coming a mile away. its obvious most of the readers here either have some sort of grudge against MW2, or FPS in general, with the exception of KZ2. but as alienage said 46% of those votes are against what most reviews said including PSXE. Now i know its more about the consumer but it sold well for a reason, and its being played by millions for a reason, bottom line, its not over rated, everyone who bought it or talked about it knew they would get a solid MP experience regardless anything else and thats exactly what they got.
@ too_far_apart-
I understand what your saying. Thank goodness someone actually explains themselves when saying MW2 is overrated. i respect you for actually giving a reason! You didnt say the ussual "KZ2 is way better", and you didnt just say "MW2 is so overrated". Thats all i ask from epople when they make such bold comments. i know im no one to ask that, but when i disagree and give my thoughts i atleast would like a respectful opinion back, not a one sentence statement that just shows arrogance more so than opinion! I have to say i thoroughly enjoyed the campaign, more so than MW, but thats me. There was way more action, and the story may not have been fantastic but revenge is always sweet. And the MP is superior than MW so thats my opinion. But i will say the campaign was far short and left a bad taste in my mouth, aside from the gameplay which i really enjoy. But luckily i got past that because as you said the game has become loved because of the MP, which is solid! thanks for the great comment, seriously!

I know how you feel, you always want to discuss rather than here the simple, bratish comments. I'm the same, i want people to understand my view and say why i feel a certain way. So trust me, i know how you feel.
Yeah i know what you mean, it is a great game, and i do agree, there was more action than MW. To me the story was just a little bit better than in MW2, which is understandable though, they focused a lot of their time online, which is what was expected since online is their main seller, and it is fun as ever, similar to MW but the addition of perks and killstreaks do make it that much better i must say hahah
In the end, no one should be bashing anyone, arguing, or bickering like little babies, but unfortunately there will always be those little nuisances. It's all about the games, and everyone has a different feel for a game and people should respect that. Sure we can disagree but no one needs to start arguing, it's pointless, let's just relax, share some thoughts and that's it.
Thanks again! I appreciate your comment too! Glad to know someone appreciates what i write. Good post also man!

Gotta say, Infamous is a damn fun/addictive game with a really nice flow in combat and variety
That's one of the things I love 'bout Infamous. The game PROGRESSES and everything you do becomes bigger and more badass.
Demon's Souls is finally getting some love
I almost have to say that after Uncharted 2 and Street Fighter IV, this is the best game I've played this year.
COD MW2 is way overrated

look around the net, at the hundreds of GOTY nominations and only 1 or 2 sites have infamous up for nomination.
same for ratchet and clank future a crack in time.
loved that game, second best in the series, best being up your arsenal.
just the storyline was really engaging, finding out who ratchet and clank are, their past, how they met, what happened to the lombaxes.
both infamous and ratchet and clank future a crack in time are 2009s least appreciated games.
when it comes to most overrated game of 2009, id be a tossup between killzone 2 and resident evil 5.
kz2 promised so much and delivered so little,
just a glorified killzone with HD graphics.
and resident evil 5 was just a glorified action game with HD graphics.
wish it was a glorified RE4, that way i could of enjoyed it at least.

But Mr NoName, just because a game is hyped doesn't mean you have to expect something that's innovative, revolutionary and special, that's my advice for ya because you said hyped games suck(if I remember correctly).
UC2 was hyped but there's nothing wrong in it, the only problem I have is the Roll and Cover share the same button.
KZ2 was overhyped no doubt but it delivered a lot, well in my opinion, maybe it's because I don't play a lot of FPS. I also don't know why KZ2 should be rated as overrated because it didn't sell that well.
But if a game was overhyped and delivered majority of the same stuff from the previous game(looking at MW2 now), then that kind of game is overrated.
But do tell me one thing, is there a possibility of you getting disappointed in GOW3?

KZ2 was the same old, same old, i was expecting something new, something i have not seen in a shooter before especially since it took them 4 freaking years.
and no i did not say hyped games suck, i said 99.9% of times games that are hyped end up disappointing me.
that does not mean there bad games, just that there not as good as i was expecting.
O and GOW3?
no.
no chance at all.
i was already crapping my pants during the demo, showed a few friends and my cuz today and everyone was picking their jaws off the ground at the end.
and apparently, graphical wise its got allot better than that, and moving levels.
come on how can you not like that?
thats what im talking about with KZ2, what did it bring that no FPS has done before?
GOW has brought many, every series its bringing something new, GOW3 alone is bringing zipper technology how the skin stretches when kratos rips helios head off was amazing!
than they have the massive levels, so big to put shadow of the colossus, stigs words not mine.
in a interview stig said the leviathan in resistance 2 is so small, the titans in GOW3 could eat it for a snack.
so no, GOW 3 disappointing me is a impossibility.

As my vote for the poll, all the games are very solid titles within their respective genres. In my biased opinion I'd probably say Guitar Hero 5. If you want to get the most satisfying experience while playing the guitar you should just learn to play it yourself. Not meant to offend the die-hards. LOL

To me SFIV is overrated. I had the game, played the heck outta it but just couldn't get the hype. Limited number of moves, about 6 players have similar moves from Ryu to Ken to Sakura to Dan to Guoken. I still think the game its cool but I just don't get that 93 overall critic score. Whereas an enjoyable game like Tekken 6 with each and every character having completely different commands with variety is like 80.
All I got from SFIV was arcade mode and survival mode and Tekken 6 has all those modes in SFIV plus the deep scenario campaign mode and you're telling me the former sits with a 93 and the latter 80? Wow!

1) InFAMOUS is a great game. Hands down! I couldn't stop playing it before getting its Platinum trophy. The best superhero game to date. As simple as it's.
2) Killzone 2 is the best first person shooter in 2009, and it comes from me; a gamer who was addicted to COD. When I returned to play COD:WAW to get the map packs trophies - that was nearly two months ago - I did realise how Guerrilla Games succeeded to create an awesome first person simulator. KZ2 is definitely one of the best FPS ever.
3) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the game of the year, I've always said it. But still I see that it's so under-appreciated. Yet when I compare how it's been received to the likes of InFAMOUS and Killzone 2, then I can no longer say that Uncharted 2 is under-appreciated!
4) The most overrated game in 2009 is without a doubt Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. And after its skyrocketed sales, I've come to conclusion that it's one of the most overrated games in the history of the industry. I perceive that sales has nothing to do with the critics' score (Or this how things should be!), but since millions of gamers have bought it then they already do highly rate it.

thats the point, its a survival horror game its suppose to be tight and tense.
you dont need to kill either the chainsaw or executioner, just survive for long enough.
O and in the demo, behind the house you start in, is a wooden box, break it open and you get a dual pair of UZIs.
thats the 1 thing they did well, you cant stand your ground and blow enemies away like your a million times more powerful than them.
the main thing i hate about L4D, theres no strategy, you can stand your ground and fill them with lead.

As far as overrated, Modern Warfare 2. 4-5 hour single player campaign with a stupid story and frustrating gameplay, extremely glitchy online, and anyone not thoroughly familiar with the previous game is just gonna get killed a zillion times.

I agree completely with Just2SkillFool, Modern Warfare 2 is hyped so much, since it has a short, albeit tense & exciting story-mode, people don't like it. & since their expectations were really really high, of course they don't like the game. I can't blame people for that, but I can say I've spent more time on Modern Warfare 2 than Killzone 2, & I do think that Killzone 2 is the better overall game.

Killzone 2 definitely does not deserve to be in the most underrated as it was probably the most hyped game on the PS3 and people still talk about how great it is today. Ratchet and Clank:ACiT, however, is usually never talked about as one of the best games on the PS3 in 2009 which is unjustifiable. Just throwing in my 2 cents.

Btw the site is called AxelMusic.com should anyone else from Europe want to take a chance getting Demons Souls from there. I'll let yis know how reliable the site is in a few days if my game arrives (or not). It was selling cheaper than Ebay and Amazon just didn't stock the game at all for Europe.
