New Call Of Duty In Vietnam, Heavier Emphasis On Story?

Even FPS developers are looking to implement deeper and more professionally produced storylines into their games.

We know the Call of Duty responsibility has switched back to Treyarch and we also know they're abandoning the traditional World War II setting. The fans have asked for something new and Infinity Ward certainly cashed in with their Modern Warfare concept. We're not sure where the next CoD will take place but the hot rumor is that it will involve Vietnam, and according to "reliable sources" found by PlanetXbox360, the new entry "will focus heavily on the story, specifically the struggles of each individual person in your squadron." One source says to expect a pacing and style found in certain Vietnam movies like "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now," which is probably a good idea given the current direction of the industry. And besides, because most everyone knows these games are all about the multiplayer, it's good to see the developer still intends to provide us with a worthy single-player experience.

We're sure to see more info on the new Call of Duty - scheduled to arrive late next year; it's like an annual schedule now - within the next few months. But I like the idea of a heavy story...provided they don't take the standard film route and choose to lecture. Let's keep that annoying trait in Hollywood, shall we?

Hope they have an epilogue chapter where I come back from war, leave my wife who suffered a horrible scarring accident, become a senator, vote against MLK day, and make a failed attempt to run for President of the US.

I kid, I kid, but I hope they make this good. There really hasn't been emphasis on Indochina.

The mp is certainly a huge draw for many, but I for one have always liked the COD stories. WWII was getting long in the tooth though so it'll be nice to see what can be done in Vietnam.

I would LOVE to see a FPS not only set in Vietnam, but also heavy on story and the interaction between the soldiers.

The best things I can envision are awesome jungle fights, great music from the early 70's, tons of hewies, and an epic level with your squad vs a sniper a la Full Metal Jacket.

That does sound kinda cool.

Ermey would fit in perfectly. Instead of Jack Bauer shouting at you before every match, it would be Ermey.

This is good news. I simply can't stomach another WW2 game.

A longer SP campaign would be great. The story could be epic, especially if they use licensed music from that era to complement it.

The MP should be fantastic as well. I love the smell of noobs in the morning!

I do not like any of the Call of the Duty singleplayer experiences. I disliked World at War's multiplayer feature as well.

In my opinion, the singleplayer experience on Medal of Honor Airborne trumps them all.

I agree with you Jawknee. The story in World at War was extraordinary compared to either of the Modern Warfare games put together.

The fact that they are putting an emphasis on the story this time around makes me uber-excited for this one. Throw in Vietnam and it is a day one buy for me most def.

The campaign on Medal of Honor won't leave you speechless, but it is far less linear then the Call of Duty ones, especially the latter half of the game.

What I really like in the singleplayer Airborne is the multiplayer Modern Warfare gun customization and level up feature. Something I hope the next Medal of Honor follows.

You know whats so funny though. Once IW started making modern warfare, medal of honor has now switched and then everyone after a few years is going to get sick of modern warfare. Then were all gonna want a new ww2 game or sumthing. Suprising enough i have never seen a good WW1 game. Or a "good" civil war game or a reveloution game or anything. Medal of honor in my mind would do a much better job with wars back then. But who knows. I really would like to see a reveloution game or WW1

If you want a good American Revolution game you have to go to the PC for Empire:Total War, or the two Colonization games. The Civil War has around 30 or so to choose from on the PC as well. I don't remember a single American Revolution game on consoles off-hand and only know of 2-3 Civil War games. I know of one WWI game but it wasn't that great.

True - anything before WWI would have to be a RTS game. There's nothing fun about having to reload your musket after every shot.

Well i knew about empire total war. But what if your nota RTS fan. The history channel civil war games were particulary awful. Now if they could expand from that and actually make a good game id buy it any day. My main point is developers really should spread out there era of work. A vision of Assassins Creed that i have is them starting out from the time of Altair and moving through the eras of time. I can see assassination games going through world war 2 looking to kill Hitler. ETC ETC

But seriously, Ben is right the industry is definitely (much to my delight) adding deeper stories lately outside of RPGs, which is good. Let Uncharted lead the way.

I wouldn't mind a vietnam game but I want buy it from Activision I spent my last Activision dollar on that exspansion pack they named Modern Warfare two, which still suffers from the same 12 player lagfest, KZ2 has twice that with no lag, anybody else see a problem with that.

The Single Player campaign will be short again because of the 360's old DVDs.

What I'd like is a proper Vietnam shooter, made by proper developers, using proper discs, and a proper console. Basically a PS3 exclusive.

Lol while some 60s-70s music would be nice in the game, I'd prefer for that to just be found in environmental objects such as portable radios and vehicles. Personally, I still would like if this game utilizes an intricate orchestra to capture the brutal, yet epic battles in the jungles. It's gotta be big, yet very realistic as far as the action goes. Brutal, bloody, and believable. :D I'm putting my faith in Treyarch to pull this one off.

meh, id like to see a new game with the structure and layout of operation flash point dragon rising.
i really enjoyed all the commands you could give your team, and the real scale of the game.
the levels were fu**ing MASSIVE!
only 2 things i hated about the game was.

1 its so freaking hard, you cant really do CQC unless you want to die so you have to take your enemies out at a distance.
but 99.99999999% of the time you have a heavy machiene gun.
its like trying to snipe with a freaking shotgun, not gonna work!

2 again its so freaking hard.
i know its suppose to be a realistic simulator, but for christs sake.
on the easiest difficulty you lie down flat in the grass, with a sniper trying to pick your enemies off but 1 shot and thats it your dead.
and the friendly AI is as dumb as batshit!

make this like DR, but without the insane difficulty and make sure both friendly and enemy AI is smart.
place those pieces together and you will have a really cool game.

O and while there at it, i hope they do another James bond game.
quantum of solace was actually not a bad game, to much emphasis on shoot everything and not enough on the spy stealth side but besides that a good game.
