Gran Turismo 5 Delayed In US Until November?

Prepare to be a little confused, then disheartened.

A reader sent us a link to the EB Games website, which clearly depicts Gran Turismo 5 with a February 2, 2010 launch date. Obviously, we were excited but at the same time, extremely skeptical; after all, the game has been officially announced for a March release in Japan and it couldn't possibly come out here earlier. Therefore, we contacted several local GameStops in the area and came away with an unfortunate piece of news: it seems the date has been changed once again, and they all tell me that GT5 won't release until November 2, 2010. Now, the retailer is well known for providing consumers with false "placeholder" dates in order to secure early pre-orders but if it's a placeholder, why move it back from the previous date of May? And how do you make a giant mistake and list it on your website as February? What's going on? This is causing some definite confusion on our part but all we can get out of GameStop is that it's coming in November, and that's that. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said the game would arrive in North America "not much later" after the Japanese release...but this sounds like a lot later.

In all honesty, the first three or four months of this year are so freakin' crowded, I almost don't mind this if it proves to be true. After all, we've got Final Fantasy XIII to deal with in March, and that can suck up 100 hours for RPG enthusiasts the same way GT5 can absorb 100 hours for racing aficionados. ...and I'm kinda both. GT5 would also be a bad-ass holiday title. But even so, a bunch of people really won't like this...

I've watched a video about a guy who told about his "experience" in gamestop. He said the employee decided to misled one of the customers looking for LBP (for her kid) and Blu-Ray player yet the GS employee said the 360 is able to play BOTH LBP AND BLU-RAY films. The guy tried to correct the situation only to be told off by the GS employee that "he knows what he's talking about". In the end, the customer got the 360.

So maybe there's some anti-PS3 affectionados on GameStop to try to downplay the GT5 sales as MUCH as possible.

If this is true, I won't buy it. Stringing along like this in hope of a good competition window is hideous, and no matter how big of a GT fan I am, I won't reward this sort of exploitave behaviour. November 2010 is approximately 18 months after the boss was quoted as saying it could be released at any time. Is November when Sony thinks it will be making an actualy profit on the PS3?

Again, I doubt it is true, but if it is, the series will lose at least one hardcore GT fan.

What is your point? That the hardcore fans (there are many, GT3 was the BIG system seller for PS2, afterall, and GT4 snagged the rest that were waiting) don't matter? I have been a GT fan literally since the day GT1 landed on our shores, and according to your logic, that is completely meaningless, because there will be some newbs to fill my spot in line.

If this is true, then I hope the whole damn series suffers, if only to teach a lesson to game developers that think they are above actually giving games to their fans.

JofaMang; i think you will most likely rethink your purchasing decision when GT5 is up and running. Why? Simply because Phony would have had the necessary time to really make it the ultimate racer for you to enjoy. There will be a few titles out next year that will keep you happy should you take the plunge with the next Need For Speed game, or the upcoming Codemasters' Formula One game to be released...

GT5 will be worth the wait. Don't deny yourself that pleasure; only you will suffer and not Phony. Other gamers will not particularly care to much about how you feel, they will be too busy racing their hearts out with GT5...

Patience is a virtue; and in this case well worth it. The pleasure on your face when you sit an xBot infront of your screen and show them this roaring monster :)

If you are as "hardcore" of a GT fan as you say, you'll be there buying the game on launch day.

Plus, it's only a video game man. Not life or death. So what if it comes out 6 months later?

Uhm I work at Gamestop, and yes this is a placeholder date. I figured Feb. 2, was to good to be true. They are the place to get release dates as they know them before everyone else will. Gamestop doesn't make up dates, you'd be surprised how close they are with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Besides, this is a Sony game, and this is probably what Sony told them to put up. From past experience this is most likely the case.

I'm sure the developer is done with their part, it's up to the publisher to decide when to release it that most benefits them. You know GT5 will be an awesome game and you WILL buy it regardless of when it'll come out. That's how great it is. So no complaints.

If it is not coming out until november, no I will NOT buy it. It is total horseh!t that it isn't an international launch as it is, having so much time to make the thing, perfect it, distill the perfection, go racing in endurance races, tell us last summer that it could be released at any time, give us single car/track demos, and yet localization could take an extra 8 months? No way, this is not how fans should be treated. I could learn japanese well enough to play an imported copy before it gets released here, IF this is true, and it won't be released until november.

If we see it by summer, I will buy it. If we don't I won't. I won't reward this sort of treatment.

First of all: You'll find it funny later when you got all upset over something said by Gamestop.

Second of all: GT5 was not delayed from technical issues. They are delayed cause more awesomeness are added in. They emphasized that everything will be in the disc. They are perfectionist. Anyone should know what you'll get if you give the geniuses time.

Rhetorical Question:
Would you prefer to buy 90% of the game in March and the rest in DLC? or wait till latest November for 100% on disc?

We do have a conflicting set of theories:

Dev is done, it is in the publishers hands now
Dev is not done, they are still perfecting it

Either way, I should have known better to get riled up before my morning coffee, especially over such an unofficial placeholder date, but I am seriously getting sick of waiting for the damn game. I am the biggest GT fan I know, and there is no possible reality that excludes my day one ownership of the gamre, regardless of the launch date. I would trade the entire first quarter line up for GT5, good thing for the rest of the gamers out there that I don't have the power to barter such an arrangement, hah.

It would make sense to release it early summer, theres always a slow part of the year during the summer. No sense in pushing it off until the crowded christmas season.

A shame for racing fans everywhere. Everything is so late this generation compared to previous ones that it looks like we will only get one iteration of each big series before another generation begins. I can't get behind that kind of nonsense.

It's not easy to design games anymore. Developers raised the bars so high. It's impossible to no spend years for one game. RPGs back in the SNES days, takes 1 year to develop and release.

Scenes when the character is happy, they just hop up in the air, do a 360 spin, and finish off with a victory peace sign pose. Now the HD gaming, they have to make sure theres enough polygons in the mouth to represent the smile, motion-capture the body movement, and long 3D rendering. This is insanely long process in design.

Sorry, I do not see the "nonsense" in taking the time to assure that GT5 is a genre and PS3 defining experience.

KY and PD said that the GT6 will not take as long.

Look at the track record of the series.
GT1 and GT2 = PS1
GT3 and GT4 = PS2

We know GT5 is a PS3 title. If history proves consistent, GT6 will also be on the PS3.

So why worry?

Polyphony is one of the software developers that has had the PS3 for the longest, and yet they have not yet release a proper game for it. Insomniac and Naughty Dog are on their 2nd or 3rd generation game engines on the PS3, and Polyphony is still trying to figure out their 1st generation engine.

i will cut them a slight break.
i was watching this doccumentary today on the new nissan GTR and they actually got accsess to PDs studio.
showing how the games being made and such, since the GTR is the main highlight of the game.
very,very interesting, i love watching these making of things wish there was more of them.
anyway, kaz was asked what was taking so long and his response was, well first we had to wait for nissan to send us the pics of the GTR and to get their ok to show it off.
than its been down to perfection, than fans demanded damage so i had to go back and incorporate it.
as i have said before i could release it at any time, but than i could keep working because im a perfectionist.
something along those lines, it was really interesting.
but that does not excuse them, sometimes you need to bite your tongue, release the game and hope everyones happy, if not patch it.
you cant delay the game just because you find something you dont like, otherwise the games never going to come out.

Sure, PD is only on it's first game for the PS3 TheHighlander and WorldEndsWithMe, but last time I checked, the PS3 still has 6-7 years left in it's life.

As I posted above, PD puts 2 full GT games on each of Sony's systems. This will be no different.

Can anyone actually blame PD anyways? People on the GTPlanet website gripe about everything. I honestly believe KY and PD are doing there very best to provide the premiere racing game for the fans.

Several of the comments in this article are nothing more then an indicator of the microwave mentality (IE-NOW) alot of people have.

There are plenty of other titles out there on the PS3 to play. And if the GT5's delay bothers someone that much, all I can suggest is that he/she relax abit, or perhaps find a game to fill the void..

Hey, hey, remember way back when we all thought FFXIII was going to be released in June/July 2010 due to a placeholder date Ben picked up somewhere? And then the main FF guy himself Yada or something (not good at remembering Japanese names) announced it for March? This could happen too in this case. So don't give up hope!

Well there's not much localization involved in a racing game. It shouldn't take more than 2 months, especially considering they have 200 employees working on the game (Not sure how many does coding and localization or art design).

I doubt it's being delayed due to any problems with the game, especially since the Japanese version seems to be on track for its release date.

Scheduling seems to be the case here. But I wonder what GT5 has to be afraid of competing with.....It could be released as an exclusive on the moon and it'd still sell a couple million copies.

Well, the people involved in making the game said that it would be out shortly after the March release in Japan, or else "sometime this summer". And yet up until now, Gamestop has had a February release date listed for it - which was obviously wrong and they obviously knew it. So their credibility is zero. I think I'll stick with what Kazunori Yamauchi and Sony have said.

At this point I'm pretty numb to delays. There have been so many. I've got my pre-order in and when that box from Amazon shows up in my mailbox, that'll be awesome. Until then, whatever.

You know, I was really looking forward to tis game for 2 years now, but with all these delays I have totally lost interest in it period. I won't waste a dime on it when it does come out...This time I feel they are taking advantage of our patience..I read article after article claiming they could release it anytime and then they push it back another 6 months...screw um there are way to many other games to play anyway..

I will cry for real, I have been waiting for this title 4eva. This is my most anticipated title for PS3. Anyways gamestop is primarily/biased towards 360, so I cant go with their word. I need my GT5 its like drugs for me, car drugs that is, lol!!!!1

TheHighlander, we may have no choice but to accept November 2010 if you want the best racer in the world... but I agree with you, sales could be hurt adversely... only time will tell...

A delayed release date though could fit perfectly for more on GT5 during E3 if I am not mistaken. Sony will have more updated material to show off and talk about. So actually, a November release may be plausible.

I also expect a new "updated" GT PsP to be released... especially considering it did not do as well as Sony expected... what was Phony thinking with that one...

It shouldnt take 9 months (if i counted correctly, march to nov) to translate it to English. Car games dont usually have a large script.

Its cool they are taking there time to get it right, but Im getting numb to the antisipation. Its getting hard to remain exited about it anymore. This, by the way is coming from a GT1 day 1 player to. However, with all the other games coming out in March, maybe a May release date would serve better. (FFXIII, GOWIII, and Heavy Rain in February) There are to many games at once to play them all.

IF this is true, they just lost 2 sales.
im sick of this constantly happening, games released than i dont see them for another 3 weeks minimum some times 2 months, some times never like rockband 2.
thats it, from now on if a game releases in a country and is not out here within 2 weeks of its first release im simply not buying it.
if they want to give me the finger, why should i give them my hard earned money?
if the game is ready enough for the Japanese to play it, than its ready enough for me to play it.

this isnt good news but is understandable.
better to not release it at the same time as GOW3, final fantasy 13 and super street fighter 4

Why does PSXextreme even allow publishing stuff like this? Why do you guys fall for it each and every time? Until SONY says the date, everything else is "noise". Stores know nothing until the press release announces the date. The last I heard, just a few weeks ago, GT5 wasn't even on the chain store order books, so they are just guessing / hoping when stores put a date out early like this.

Ben fully admits to being confused, whereas anyone who has ever watched any GT release _knows_ he has to wait for SONY to give the date, not some store. At the moment, people are even believing a February date because some stores list that, disregarding the March 31st/Japan date mentioned by Kazunori, a while ago. Sites like this only add to the confusion or fan the flames by writing this kind of bait for people who want to believe it.

I love GT like no other game, but Ben is doing an excellent job in keeping the GT fans up to date.

I don't go anywhere else, so this is usually the first place I read PS3 news.

I do see your point however. But the negative comments and fuel to the fire that can be found here, are nothing compared to GTPlanet.

Sorry, I don't buy that this is real information. People have real passions for their favourite games and misleading them like this is not healthy, overall. Everyone, deep down, knows they have to wait for SONY. Anything else is clutching at straws.

True or not, we should know by now that PD isn't to blame. C'mon guys, when it'll be release is really up to Sony's strategic plans. Even if PD is done with the game now, it doesn't guarantee us an early release date.

So yeah, stop with all the PD this, PD that.

I dont mind as long as final fantasy doesn't get delayed. I'd be pissed if ff was delayed especially if the cause was having problems porting 360 version.

If they keep delaying GT, the game is going to include flying cars a la WipeOut.

Damn PD, we love you and love your game, but that's because we actually got to PLAY them... how can we keep believing in the racing version of Final Fantasy XIII? Oh yeah, sorry, that one already retails in Japan... my mistake
