US Gamers Won't See Heavy Rain Collector's Edition

A message to all European gamers out there: unfortunately, you often have more reasons to complain than to gloat, but here's your chance to do the latter.

Collectors Editions are a big deal in the industry right now; despite the constant complaints online about pricey special editions, items like the $150 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition sold like hotcakes. Therefore, publishers will continue to pursue these editions that boast plenty of extra stuff. Sadly, while we know a lot of you are anxiously anticipating Heavy Rain - thereby making us believe plenty of gamers would've sprung for the Collectors Edition - it seems it won't be made available in North America. This is likely due to the fact that developer Quantic Dream is based in Europe but even so, it's a definite blow to US gamers. An SCEA representative told VG247 very specifically that "we will not be carrying this in the US," while SCEE will offer the Collector's Edition of Heavy Rain at retailer HMV for the price of £40. The good news is that the release date sits at February 26 according to HMV, although it's not official; Sony says we can expect an official date "in the next few weeks."

Well, we don't need yet another special edition to consider purchasing, do we? Besides, wouldn't you rather pop for that Pandora's Box Collectors set for God of War III? Or how about whatever they're gonna offer for Final Fantasy XIII? Just trying to remain cheerful.

I'm more interested in what's going to be in the FFXIII Collector's Edition. I'm still wanting Heavy Rain, but I can't afford to buy very many CE's of games. Bad news for U.S. gamers though.

It's a holographic rain case where the drops have depth or pop out (a cool illusional effect), an early download code for "The Taxidermist" episode, the soundtrack and a X-Media Bar theme.

I know cos I've preordered it here in Australia. YAY!!! For once, something to be proud of for being an Aussie gamer!!! And I don't wanna see anyone take this rare happy moment from me!!!

I only splurge for Special Editions for a very select amount of games, but this is one I'd definitely put money down for.
Except for special packaging, I still intend to get everything else offered (I already have the XMB theme), so it's not a total loss.

Everyone should be allowed to buy collector editions no matter where you live.

The one company that has my money is DICE with their upcoming Battlefield Bad Company 2. FYI their collectors edition is the same price as the regular edition. Nice right?

well, technically you can with the ps3 since it region free anyway. but if you get cds or dvds then its not going to work. well...i guess it can work if you have a gameshark that lets your ps2 play cds and dvds from other regions like i do. didnt think it was much of a feature when i bought it but im glad i have it.

Im happy theres no collectors edition, to be honest. With the money ill be spending on FF13, GoW3 (probably the collectors edition unless its cheap plastic and ugly), and Heavy Rain this spring i'm glad i dont have to decide between another collectors edition.

i dont like CE games, i bought the collectors edition of uncharted 2, it was more expensive than the standard edition and the cover was worse than the standard edition

Can not wait for this game, not heart broken over the CEd I very rarely buy CEd last time I did it was honestly not worth the extra 20 bucks. Love that this game comes out a few days ahead of my birthday I know what I'm asking for even though I've preordered it already :)

I import 9 out of 10 games that I buy, and in the internet-world of today I find this whole "Europe gets something we don't" problem to be dramatically constructed, to say the least... Just click on "add to cart" and then "submit order". You Americans don't even have to master a second language to do it! :D

someone get me a icy towel i think im going to faint!
preordered the CE today when i went to pick darksiders up along with the GOW 3 ultimate edition and army of two the 40th day.
i asked when GT5s due out and the guy just started laughing at me, than said dident you know? they have delayed it so it can now be a PS4 launch title.
figures, i guess its taken long enough.

although, wait a minute.
a game is developed in the US, its released first in the US.
this is developed in europe so why the hell is it releasing first in the US?
looks like i can do a little of both then.

Im not as into this game as some of you guys are but i do want to try it. I'll probably wait till price goes down but definitely buying it new. as limited my spending money is, its one of the games im passing on day 1, at least.

Got mine at EB as soon as I heard of it. Preordered that is, not actually GETTING it and playing it or anything... hehe.

So, my budget for the next 2 months are gone, and here is why:

I have preordered the following games:

1. Bayonetta Climax Edition on 360 2 days ago
2. Mass Effect 2 Collectors on PC - 25th Jan
3. Bioshock 2 Special Ed. on PC - 27th Jan
4. Splinter Cell Conviction Collectors Ed. on 360 - 25th Feb
5. Heavy Rain Collector's Ed. on PS3 - 25th Feb
6. God of War Ultimate Trilogy Ed. on PS3 - March
7. Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 (still awaiting a collector's for Aus)
8. Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 (still awaiting Collector's announcement, hopefully there will be one)

And yes, I am a collector and proud of it. But my theory is, if I'm gonna spend a lot of money when it first comes out, I might as well get the Collector's Edition, and everything else can wait until sales or price drops, eg. Saints Row 2 for 20 bucks

I have a strange question for anyone who lives in North America and imports games from Europe. I'm one of those strange perfectionist collectors, and I hate it when I put my games on a stand and they look different. That's why I never buy Greatest Hits titles and why the new PS3 packaging bugs me because the sides of the cases look different amongst the original PS3 games. My question is, is there really a difference between the NA packaging and Europeon packaging besides the rating?

Also, the XMB theme that comes with the Collector's Edition, is that the dynamic theme that you can currently buy, or a new, exclusive theme?

Another question:

if I were to import this game, and then later wanted to buy new DLC, could I buy it off the Canadian store? Would it still work with an import? I'm assuming that DLC would be region-free too, right?

I would gotten it probably but I did download the dynamic theme and it became corrupt and almost screwed up my PS3 :(
