Target Will Set Up Your Game Console, For "Only" $99
I'm aware that some people really aren't electronically inclined and some need help replacing light bulbs but this...this might be a little pricey for plugging stuff in.
Many retailers now offer installation services for various pieces of electronic equipment, ranging from stereos to TVs to computers. Now that video game consoles can accurately be included in such a category, it should come as no surprise that Target now has a setup service for those who are either clueless or simply can't be bothered to hook up their new game system. This according to a piece of info found by Kotaku; for the "low" price of $99, an employee will come to your house and get your new console up and running. Now granted, this can be a little more complicated in the new generation, what with the setting up of online accounts, or the fact that many may want their console hooked up to a PC monitor. There are any number of complications, I suppose, although I have to assume that many will balk at the price. It's half the price of the Wii and 1/3 the price of the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 and I just can't see paying a hundred bucks to get it setup...especially by some register biscuit from Target. But hey, they wouldn't offer the service if people wouldn't use it, right?
Still, I'm guessing not many of our readers will be adding this charge to their next console purchase. Really, how hard is it, anyway?

I would think Target would have to hire actors to perform this job.....you know, show up and talk up a storm and pretend it's heavy labor so that these hooked fish think they're getting their money's worth.
"I'm going to have to ask you to please stand back sir, I'm about to plug in a HDMI cable! I'm a trained professional, but I wouldn't want you or your loved ones to lose an arm during this process...."

Step 1: Take included power cable (Figure A) and use it to connect the Playstation 3 to a nearby outlet.
Step 2: Take your HDMI cable (not included) and plug one end into the Playstation 3 console, and the other end into the TV.
Step 3: Turn on the Playstation 3 console, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Enjoy.

I have absolutely no doubt that they'll simply get you on the net. I also doubt that they'll be able to cope with anything except a totally vanilla network set up.
I don't think the service is worth the cost at all. But on the other hand there are a lot of people who know nothing about computers and networks. The kind of person who's unsure about turning their monitor off in case it shuts down everything. For these people, the reassurance of someone else being responsible for setting up their PS3 might be worth it. Of course the reason for the high cost is simple. Profit...

I was going to my cousin's house to setup his PS3 for him. He couldn't wait for me to get there so he plugged in the HDMI cable, the only thing was, he plugged it in backwards and blew his eyebrows clean off.
This is not something to take lightly folks. Please,Please,Please let the good people at Target handle this.

windows 7 is what vista should of been.
for once i can tell my PC to do something and it does it, instead of asking me if im sure i want to do it 15 times.
windows 7 is so much easier to use and so much easier to find things compare to vista.
its got the security of vista but the ease of access of XP.
not as good as XP, but close enough for now.

I wonder if Target would throw in a red shirt with a bullseye on it with this service. Then I would consider paying. NOT!!!!!!!

thats the steal of the century.
the shoddiness and cheapness of retail stores never surprises me.
soon there going to start charging for customer service.
want a shopping trolley sir?
that will be 5 bucks.
o you want a basket instead?
ok thats 3 bucks.
its amazing what people will pay for, like ive said many times hop on ebay and 99% of the crap there is going for more than it would at the shops.
like i just sold a netgear router for 400 bucks, i bought it a year ago for 250 brand spanking new.
Iphones on there are going for over 800 when i can go to optus and get one for 700 unlocked.
gone are the days where buying things online was cheaper.

Target knows that this generation can be quite confusing to new gamers, with all the online this and hi def that. But instead of taking five minutes to explain how things work, they take advantage of any doubts the buyer has, then hammer them with this scam. They "target" (pun intended) all of the people that are just getting started with videogames.
What's next? A nose picking service? How to set up your toothbrush?

You think that's something???
You should see the back my poor lil 32" SDTV.
With all the wires going into it, that I probably could have re-wired the Pentagon with them.
It's hooked up with a 5 piece Sony Home Theater System, a Realistic turntable, plus a Bose 10 double-cube surround sound system.
Plus another 15 gaming consoles hooked in on a 8-unit switcher box, two 5-game switch box's & 4 RF units.
And I also had to add two 15-outlet electrical gang boxes just so I could juicebox them all into the same grid.
I just might have to call in a priest before I add anything else to my poor lil TV, cause with all those wires there now, it already looks like it's on life support.
