SCEA: Alternate Box Art For Heavy Rain Will Be Available

Sony wants you to be happy. If you don't like the box art, they'll give you another option.

We just saw the US box art for Quantic Dream's huge PS3 exclusive, Heavy Rain, which received mixed responses from those planning to purchase the innovative title. Some prefer the European box art, which features only an Origami crane with a bloodstain, sitting in pouring rain. Well, if you're one of those people, have no fear: Sony will let you snag the subtler, perhaps more refined European box art by simply downloading it via PDF. Associate Product Manager of Software Marketing, Christian Cordona, confirmed as much in a reply over at the PlayStation Blog. The query asked if SCEA would make a replacement PDF cover available to US gamers, as they did with the whole Brett Favre/Madden ordeal, and Cordona said, "we'll be doing that." See? For such an artsy game, you definitely want it to have the look you prefer, especially when it's sitting all pretty-like in your collection.

Heavy Rain is set to arrive on February 23, giving you plenty of time to consider the two box designs in question. Which will you go for?

Nice. I just have to replace the ink in my printer now, I've been out of color for months.

It's nice that they are going to give us the option, but for me it doesn't matter what the box looks like, as you only see the edge when it sits on the shelf with the rest of my collection. The game is what really matters and that will be where the beauty and artistry shine.

I totally agree - I only see the side...so why don't they start making the side of the box really amazing???

Why does anyone make a fuss what the box looks like? I mean boxart is what draws you to look at a game you havn't heard of, I can understand that, but this is a really talked about game, so if you don't know about it chances are you don't want to. As long as it says the name of the game on the front to allow me to separate it from my others that's fine. At the end of the day, it's what they've put in the game that will sell it, not what the box looks like

Why not just make the cover paper double sided?

Isn't the cover paper already double sided?

I think Uncharted 2 has images on the opposite side of the paper that you can see when you open the case.

It's either that, Dead Space, or MW2 because it has to be a game I've played recently.

I live in Canada, and all my SCEA exclusives haven't been double-sided since the first Resistance and the second Genji. I always figured Sony was just cheaping out, but now it's going to upset me if it's just the Canadian copies that are getting shafted by having only one-sided covers. The way I see it, if you going to have a clear case, why not have a picture on the inside?

Ok I get you guys, and with me I wouldn't do that just for a cover but you gotta understand that we have people who cherish ART a lot.

You won't understand why some paintings are so damn expensive, that's just art for you and it's taken seriously by some.

Not sure what the big deal is. Some people like cover art (yeah, that includes me). Does it really matter if I import a game for a different cover, or if I print out an alternate cover? The only thing you should be worrying about is whether or not I own some kind of copy of the game. Someone else's prefence on cover art is nobody's concern but their own.

PDF is a fancy format for images and text documents that you need Adobe Reader to view (which is free)

Lets be honest who cares as long as the game inside works :) and your disc is not scratched or got any marks on it at all :)

Ok we know it's art but come on. How often do we stand there looking at the cover. I'd rather be playing the game. Least for those that are concerned though they have the chance to print out the alternate version if they wish.

Imagine your friends come round and you point out "See that beauty thats an import for the box artwork!" haha.

Most of us stand games side by side so you can se the title. Or like me flat in a box as I have no room at the moment some are on the side by the bed so I can read the names others are flat. :)

Why not have the best of both worlds?????????

Myself, I like the European artwork better & I plan on downloading it to use.

But I'll still keep the NA cover too, by inserting it right behind the Euro cover.

BTW, for all you gaming collector's out there, having two different, slightly controversial covers, should make for a hell of a conversation piece too.

Both boxes appear to be very cool. Although I like the European box art slightly more because of the sheer mystery and sort of sadness behind it. The North American box art is pretty cool as well though, just not as good.

Still one of my most anticipated titles to be released this year! Make that #1.
