A 3D Patch For God Of War III Is A Distinct Possibility
3D gaming is on the way and it may impact some of your favorite franchises. For instance, God of War III director Stig Asmussen most certainly wants to see a 3D Kratos.
In speaking to NowGamer, Asmussen not only confirmed he'd be interested in the 3D option, but it also might become a reality at some point. We just can't imagine how nuts such an experience would be, provided the technology is up to snuff and everything looks right. And evidently, this shouldn't be an issue; said Asmussen:
"I know that it is something, having talked to one of our engineers, that we could do. We don’t have one of those 3D TVs so we wouldn’t be able to see what it looked like if we’re able to do it, and I’m sure that it would require a little bit of ramp up to do it, but from my understanding it’s not incredibly complicated."
Even so, it's kind of hard to picture. It wouldn't really be the same perspective as a 3D racing game like Wipeout HD or Gran Turismo 5, for example. Asmussen said a 3D GoW "would be kind of like looking through a window seeing a miniature world or something like that, a three-quarter perspective, little world or diorama." Basically, there's no reason we might not someday see a 3D patch for God of War III; the game certainly won't ship with this compatibility. But "if it's really easy to do" and there's enough of a demand for it, don't be surprised to see a 3D patch available some time later this year.

However, I'm really excited about 3D gaming. Immersion is a big part of gaming and making games in 3D just seems like an unbelievable step towards making games more immersive but it will take a few years before its affordable enough for it to break into the mass-market.

dident sony say in 2010 there releasing a update that will make all existing PS3 games run in 3D?
either the media got there storys mixed up, or you just cant trust sony.
one minute there telling me my 200Hz TV will support 3D out of the box, when it wont.
now there telling me GOW3 may support 3D, even though they already said all excising ps3 games would support 3D.
as the old saying goes if you want something done you have to do it yourself!
cant trust anyone!

As far as 3D televisions go, manufacturers are doing this now while market penetration on HDTVs is still basically in its infancy. Now when someone who hasnt upgraded shops, 3D will be a factor in their decision. Too bad to, I was looking to purchase a second set but simply cannot afford the 3D level upgrade.
Besides the first models will be the testing grounds for the technology anyway. Ill wait.

A game already exists in 3d, but is rendered as a 2d image for our tvs, a movie file exists in 2d to begin with.

And on the whole 3D TV thing in itself... I hope they have the 3D glasses selling for cheap. I have a feeling they're going to have to keep them in really good stock. (Sigh)

I'm hoping to get another HDTV this summer, maybe a 32" for (hopefully) around $350, and if I'm really frugal, maybe I'll be able to afford a new PS3 slim to go with it! That's the world I live in.
