White Knight Chronicles Secures European Launch Date

There's a bit of Square-Enix dissent floating around, which means some RPG fans plan to forsake Final Fantasy XIII for Level 5's White Knight Chronicles. Personally, I think all true RPG fans should play both but that's beside the point.

The point is that while American fans of the genre are looking forward to February 2, when Chronicles hits store shelves, our UK buddies have been once again left in the dark. Well, no more. According to Electronic Theatre, SCEE has announced that Level 5's excellent role-playing title will be available throughout Europe on February 26. Level 5 has been responsible for the likes of the Rogue Galaxy, Dragon Quest VIII and the Dark Cloud series, so RPG aficionados have certainly come to respect this team's efforts. Furthermore, despite some less-than-stellar feedback regarding the game's online portion, the Japanese reviews have all been very high (for the most part). Remember, this game has been out in Japan for a long time and Level 5 is already working on the sequel! But we just wanted to make sure our European readers were aware of the release date.

We know you guys tend to suffer a bit when it comes to big game launches but hey, February 26 isn't bad at all. It does put you in a bit of a bind, as FFXIII releases on March 9, but that's okay. At least now you have the official date, right?

I'm contemplating it, but the gameplay and story seem lacking... might get Star Ocean 4 instead.

I;m with Ben, got SO when it came for Xbox360 and it just didn't meet half of my expectations... the combat gets boring after a couple of hours, the story is nothing special... you name it.

Maybe my problem is called Valkyrie Profile (PsOne)... that game has the most amazing combat mechanics ever made, story, character and Epic quotes, period

This is the game I bought a PS3 for... back in 2007. I can't believe it's less than 2 weeks away.

If it's even 3/4 as good as Dark Cloud 2 was, it'll be on my favorite PS3 games list.

That's what I'm saying. It's all in there. WKC is not DC3, but it looks to be catering to those who enjoyed DC2. For that alone I'm grabbing it. FFXIII doesn't offer half of what WKC has on tap.

Dont forget, the town building on WKC is far more advanced than on DC and further more, you use your towns online for people to roam around, use your resources (and you get the in game money they spend), and meet up at your selected lobby to organise a quest....that slaughters DC's town creation!

Level 5 has done quite a bit of work on the game since its release. Eurogamer gave the original version of the game an 8. With all of the tweaks done to the international version, this is going to be a great game for sure.

I'm really looking forward to this. It will be my first new game purchase of 2010. :)

Anyway, this is the best big budget JRPG for PS3 and im sure many agree now since the recent mishaps.

It has all of my favourite ingredients for a perfect, classic JRPG...oh and none of that style over substance which has plagued everything these days.

As much as I want this, I have to put it in second place against FFXIII for the cheaper price a bit later. Die hard FF fan here. But like Ben said any true RPG fan must play both and I definitely will be doing so. At first I was upset at the massive wait, but at least we will get all those extra DLC goodies on the disc for our version so I think it's worth it in the end.

Yeah, despite everything I'm still itching to play FFXIII, it's just not an URGENT itch. White Knight Chronicles is becoming a giant rash of anticipation. It's going to be tough, but I bought the better game system for a reason and that reason doesn't include xbox versions of games.

Hmm, well Level 5 developed DQVIII. But then the series moved to the DS (the worst thing ever). So... it would be great if Level 5 made another full-fledged console Dragon Quest, but I doubt it's going to happen. Not as long as Yoichi Wada is in charge of Squenix.

It was, but somehow I never finished it. I think I got lost somewhere on the quest and my friend's advice wasn't any help.

I can see why they put it on DS (Though I hate the idea) since every Japanese person in the country owns one, but now that the PS3 is in lots of Japanese homes due to FFXIII maybe they will make a DQ for it... And then MS will pay for multiplat status.

I thought Rogue Galaxy was Level 5's worst effort. It was extremely unbalanced, and that made it frustrating for me.

I grew up on the best Final Fantasy games of all time, and part of what made those games great was how incredibly well balanced they were. Rogue Galaxy could have used A LOT of tweaking in that department, I felt.

Oh i agree. But, it shows clips that are more suttle and gives you hints at the town exploration and depth.

The combat one only shows you just that with action thrown at your face. Its still cool of course but, i like the quieter parts of RPGs best i.e. town roaming.

though its still early in the year im starting to get a little concerned.
i mean seriously its almost every day were getting a release of a game announced for march or feb are we going to have enough games for later in the year?
i mean think about it, every game that has been announced is either not coming till next year or has already been given a Q2 or earlier release date.
only 2 games i can think of that will release later this year are LA Noire, max payne 3 and hopefully agent but i seriously doubt that would be out this year.
because 1 R* take their sweet time in releasing games and 2 from what ive heared agent is going to be a massive game thus making me believe its going to take a long time to make.
i mean they just finished making the GTA IV DLC mid last year that puts agent in the 7 month development cycle by now, i would expect it to take them at least 2 years to make agent.
maybe half life 2 epp 3, RAGE or duke nukem forever will come and save the day...... though i wont hold my breath.

Just one question: Are the online communities different in the NA and EU versions, i.e. different servers per region? Or is the online global, i.e. no region restrictions? Where I live we get both NTSC and PAL versions, so if there isn't a difference, I'd get the NTSC version, seeing how it's coming out earlier.
