Rockstar Hints At GTAIV DLC On PS3, Teases L.A. Noire

Rockstar has a lot to talk about these days, and that includes the upcoming Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire and downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV.

The latter two topics are of special interest to PlayStation 3 owners, primarily because L.A. Noire was initially announced as a PS3 exclusive (but has since gone multiplatform, as far as we know) and the recent DLC for GTAIV has been restricted to the Xbox 360 and PC. Therefore, it's not surprising to see both topics pop up over at Rockstar's official blog, where several important questions finally received answers. For instance, when asked why The Ballad of Gay Tony wasn't released for the PS3, the reply was as follows:

"We know that it continues to be an often-asked question – and believe us, we understand the frustration of PS3 owners like yourself who haven’t been able to play any of our most recent releases. All we can say is that we at Rockstar promise to be very good to you with our releases in 2010. Please stay with us and stay tuned!"

While we know Rockstar's Agent is a PS3 exclusive, it seems L.A. Noire will be available on the 360 and PC, but we still haven't heard much about this mysterious title. The latest report was that development was going very well and that we should expect something very special, but how's about an update? In reply, Rockstar said:

"There will be something great to see soon – a proper in-depth look at the game and why it is so ground breaking and innovative, both in terms of the game’s design and the amazing new technology to support it. Expect to see a long-awaited reveal via a big cover story next month."

Well, that's good to know. How long have we been waiting on L.A. Noire now? A few years, at least. And prior to this, we had heard a rumor that all available downloadable content for GTAIV would eventually find its way to the PS3, so perhaps that will be verified next month as well. We'll definitely let you know one way or the other.

Not really answering those PlayStation GTA fans question imo. Sometimes it's like why even ask these guys questions when they're just going to lie? I still don't believe them about Agent being exclusive but we will see just how good they will be to their PlayStation fans in 2010 though of course third parties are looking to be nice to PS3 now-a-days.

I'd like to se all the Grand Theft Auto DLC coming to the ps3, mostly because I recently downloaded the latest version of it, so I want to replay it to get some trophies.

I'll replay it, so it would be great that this time I have these DLCs.

Having said that would you be okay if all you got was DLC that's over a year old? I haven't been impressed with GTA4 or the DLC. Many PS3 users think they got a raw deal but I personally think MS can have the DLC.

ill take some 720p hd remakes of San Andreas and Vice City over some half-assed Lost and Damned port. Wouldn't mind Gay Tony coming to the PS3 though. Or a new episode starring Little Jacob or Brucie.

trust me your not missing out on anything with the DLC.
TLATD was sooooooo boring and repetitive, only good thing was your in a motorcycle gang.
TBOGT was a little better but was still repetitive and boring, best part was the exploding shotgun!

Yeah GTA4 was good, but I dont think even with the release of this DLC I will want or have the time to re-visit. It seems a little late, especally with all these new titles coming out, god I can barely keep up as it is! AND GTA5 is just around the corner...

now please just release LA Noire already.
i use to love R* because they released the best games and were quite active with their fans.
now the quality let alone quantity of there games has sunk like the titanic!
not to mention they have announced so many games its not funny, and there still yet to release one.

I bet Sony didn't want L A Noire to be "the" franchise they got in trade for letting R* take GTA multiplat, I have faith in R* still because when they were Sony only they made the games that no one else had the balls, talent, or money to produce. They took chances and made awesome games that laid the foundation for a lot of the sandbox style games we enjoy today. If they stay true to their past then I think we are going to see something truly amazing from them it's common knowledge that exclusives for either console are superior to the multiplats. Keep the faith maybe they'll make a "GTA3" for this generation i'm sure some of you remember the impact it had when it was the first "3d" sandbox-style game.

there were 2 new IPs coming exclusive to the ps3 in trade for GTAIV going to the 360.
now LA Noire was going to be one of them but that changed because LA Noire is the biggest production game R* has ever made.
its cost them more money to make LA Noire than GTAIV, max payne 3, red dead redemption.
that ought to put into perspective how much effort, time and money is going into LA Noire.
it ought to be one amazing! game.
now, how that effects the agreement is anyone's guess.
does that mean R* have to come up with a new IP for sony or is there another way around it.
LA Noire being the first, Agent being the second, LA Noire is now out so what will replace it?
only time will tell.

I'm definitely excited about L.A. Noire. I know I have little to go on but when it was announced, especially as a PS3 exclusive, it was the single new IP I was looking forward to. Of course over time other new IP's, and their sequels, have come, got my attention and been great.

I look forward to new information on any Rockstar title.

I feel like R* did what they could to avoid this situation long enough regarding GTA4. Even though they addressed it, they still stayed shy about it. Regardless I wont purchase the DLC if and when it comes. ITs been too long and overdue, just gimme GTA5 in the future and That will suffice!

As far as other R* titles go, im all in!

Dont want the dlc, gta4 was the biggest let down in my opinion. I worshiped the other 3. If they try to fob off the dlc 1 year on then i expect new content ontop of that for a sweetner

Please give me that DLC, GTA IV is the most played game in my PS3 collection, but after almost a year after release it started to get a little boring and I started playing other games more and more, but I still want more of that Liberty City tastiness...

awesome... i'll be looking forward to something from R* next month for sure... whether it be DLC, LA noire or agent... i have lots of respect for R* and the games they produce... i can only recall one bad egg in their stable or hits... i've had the most fun playing R* games, they truly are a gamers gaming company IMO...

It strikes me that Sony might be wise to find a few more third parties to work with and commission specifically PS3 games that are completely new and not sequels or spin-offs from existing games. That way the IP is potentially jointly owned with Sony ensuring exclusivity through ownership and allowing Sony to effectively subsidize the building and education of a PS3 team at a third party developer. If there is one way to kill poor multi-platform titles it's getting PS3 know how out there. Doing favors for developers and publishers who might otherwise pass on the PS3 version or outsource it, should help bring PS3 multi-platform titles back up to scratch as well as potentially ensuring exclusive games from third party publishers.

The fact that Agent is exclusive and LA Noire started that way is an indication that third parties are still willing to go exclusive with Sony.

I hate the idea of buying exclusivity of a game, when it involves taking a game from one platform and putting it exclusively on another. The most obvious example being FFXIII. If ever there was a game that should have remained exclusive to the PlayStation line, that was it.

That said, there are plenty of third party games that are exclusive to 360, and games that are exclusive PS3. I have no problem with that when the game itself is owned by neither console maker. Exclusive status is the decision of the developer, when they originate the game.

But a game that's owned and commissioned by someone is entirely different. I have no problem with a game owned by Sony, but developed by a third party being exclusive to the PS3 because it was never going multi-plat anyway. Just as I don't have a problem with the Boys at Bungie making Halo3 an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Well the point is that the 360 gamer gets it now and PS3 gets it 'later - if at all'. It creates a differential between 360 and PS3 that might push some gamers to buy the 360 version.

I agree with most of your comments. I believe a boycott of all PS3 delayed DLC should be implemented. The sheer greed and disrespect that Rockstar has shown towards the loyal PlayStation community disgusts me. Sony made Rockstar what it is today by supporting it all these years on the PSX and PS2. Playstation users are what I consider the longest running GTA fans. Please do not support this DLC if it does eventually come out because this will undoubtedly perpetuate the problem. I feel this is the only way to get it through Rockstar’s thick skull that it's not worth alienating their biggest fan base all for a couple of bucks. I encourage you to pass this message on.

Maybe it hurts PS3 consumers as well, but R* weren't born yesterday. They know that GTA4 sold well enough on the PS3, and if the year+ old DLC doesn't perform well enough, they know they have themselves to blame for it.

Honestly speaking, I don't feel any resentment towards R* for the supposedly timed exclusive DLCs, but it's been long enough that I've lost interest in the DLCs, and the only way I would consider buying them this late is if their selling price would be low enough to compensate for the year-long lag. That is the reason I haven't bought Braid on PSN so far (it debuted on PSN at 15 bucks). This week I think there's a sale on PSN where Braid is half-price (7.5 USD), so might buy it now.

I'm not talking about a mystery drop in sales, the reasoning would have to be public in order for it to be effective.
