GameStop Offers Exclusive Yakuza 3 Pre-Order Incentives

Most people equate March 9 with the US release of Final Fantasy XIII but if RPGs aren't your bag, there's one PlayStation 3 exclusive that might capture your attention.

Yakuza 3 is set to launch on the 9th, too, and based on what we've seen and heard from the Japanese reviews, this one is a definite gem (and the best entry yet in the franchise). Furthermore, if you decide to pre-order the gritty action title from GameStop, you'll receive a few little bonuses. First of all, you'll get $5 off the purchase price, dropping the retail cost down to $54.99, and on top of that, you'll get the "GameStop Exclusive Challenge Pack." It's downloadable content that boasts a few two-player mini-games like bowling, darts and pool. You'll also be able to unlock new costumes for the main characters once you finish the game. If you want to pre-order online, your code for the DLC should be e-mailed to you and if you drop your deposit in a brick-and-mortar GameStop, you should get a little card with the requisite code. For a bunch of new screenshots, head on over to Examiner.com; this is one title that might avoid notice in March due to the major blockbusters scheduled for that month.

But you should certainly take a look at it. Yakuza has always featured the dark presentation of a GTA with a finely honed story, and the combat is always brutal and engaging.

I'm thinking about giving this one a try. Not a GTA guy and never bought any of those games and I haven't played Yakuza 1 nor 2 on the PS2 so I may need a demo first.

I'm not a GTA guy either. Every GTA games I play I end up not finishing any because of too much roaming around the city and I end up unable to focus on the storyline. But Yakuza series is not like GTA at all. Yakuaza is not like GTA where you just aim gun at anyone or pick on fight with anyone you like. It more like rpg in term of storyline but gameplay is combination of rpg and fighting game.In Yakuza you can't kill anyone or pick on fight with anyone you like. Also I like the storyline in Yakuza which is for me much better than GTA storyline. Not that I hate GTA but I'm more to storyline than just free roaming around the city which within a few minutes I will end up bore.

+1.

Yeah I stood by GameStop during the "used games hurt the industry" debate, and I was annoyed with the fact that they open and possibly play the games they sell as new... but the final straw was when I realized how much cheaper the games are on Amazon. I haven't looked back since.

I'll wait till price drop. Dn't get me wrong, I don't think the game is not worth the full 60$, it's just that....I want to catch up with some games that I missed (InFamous, Littlebigplanet, Disgaea 3), and besides, if I wait a little bit, I might grab two games with the original 60$ of one game.

i wish I had the money to buy this, GOW3 and Heavy Rain on day one, but I don't have it =(

So on both February 9 and March 9, I have to buy two games? No problem.

This game is amazing according to everybody who imported it. I'm not going to miss out.

Yes, those two. I might even buy 3 games that day if Star Ocean International gets some strong reviews. However with Demon's Souls and White Knight Chronicles, 3 RPGs would be too many.

Darts, bowling, and pool? Sounds like GTA alright. Not for me but I know the die harders are happy to see it come (Late much? They have Yakuza 4 coming over there.)

uhh, does anybody know if this game has multiplayer? If so, I do hope it's better than GTA4's, I didn't like it too much.

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
AUs not getting this for some absurd reason!
probably because it would get banned, even though GOW3, FEAR 2 and AVP got passed.
and i was really looking forward to a open world game.
have not played a game of this type since saints row 2 and lets be honest that was far from stellar.

Yakuza is not like GTA at all. Yakuza is more or less a Action RPG with a modern setting (Except Kenzen).

Actually, the Yakuza games are action RPGs.

I'm interested in this game, but considering everything else coming in the next two months I think I'll have to wait and circle back to this one later in the year.

People always seem to miss out the main attraction of this game.

The exploration, depth and attention to detail that hardly has resemblance to gta once you jump in. Any Yakuza/Shen fan will tell you that.

That's another thing, it's resemblances to Shenmue are what drags in the most interest and yup, it has RPG elements, you do level up...so RPG alternative this may not be.

I'd like to check this out, but I haven't played the first two games.

Will I be completely lost if I start with 3?

you can play it safe.

go for it ;).

later you can play the first two to make time until Yakuza 4 comes (with luck this 2010).
