Geoff Keighley: Mass Effect 2 Will "Eventually" Come To PS3
After EA snapped up BioWare, everyone just assumed that future products from the preeminent role-playing developer would be multiplatform. After all, mega-publishers like EA just don't do "exclusive."
However, neither BioWare or EA has confirmed that Mass Effect 2 would be coming to the PlayStation 3, despite the fact that Dragon Age: Origins most certainly did and BioWare said they would continue to work with Sony's machine. But is an official ME2 PS3 unveiling looming large on the horizon? According to GamesThirst citing a statement by G4 host Geoff Keighley, it may only be a matter of time:
"Now the fact that [Mass Effect 2] is only on Xbox 360, a lot of debate now about whether it makes sense for publishers to make those games exclusive to a platform. I think the game will eventually come out for PlayStation 3 but they just can’t talk about it yet."
We've heard similar comments before but does Keighley know something we don't? Perhaps the most telling factor in this debate is the way in which BioWare or EA deals with the question: they almost never deny that Mass Effect 2 will eventually end up on the PS3. They usually just say something like, "no comment" or, "we can't talk about that right now," which has always led optimistic PS3 owners to believe it's inevitable. It really makes very little sense for this hotly anticipated sequel to remain exclusive; EA knows they'd be eliminating around 25 million potential customers. But we'll just have to wait and see...

Same, I've played about a hour, but cannot seem to find the wow factor. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but not a great game at all.
I am really going to p*ss off some xbox fans by saying this (sorry ppl), but I'm really starting to regret buying a xbox 360 now.

I am enjoying the game alot more now, and am at the last 'chapter'. It also is less boring if you skip the reptetive side quests and just go for the main story line, which is not long (10-15 hours).
This is just my point of view, and I'm sorry if this still doesn't work to help convince people that ME is indeed a good game.

I quite happily completed all the side quests on my first run through which took roughly 55 hours if my memory serves me correctly. I then immediately started my second play through.
I already have my ME2 preorder down.

Didn't wow me at first, but once you get into it, at least 3-4 hours in and skip the boring side missions, then you start to see real great story-telling at work.
The dialogue trees were what hooked me, the mature story made it feel sophisticated, the character creation makes the game feel like your own and the final moment where you have to make one hell of an important decision really shapes the game and the how the sequel will begin.
Sure, it might not be for everyone, but I sure enjoyed it, and appreciated the PC version release.
I have a 360 (since July 09), the Halos were good for playing with friends (who all own 360s), it was good to get Bayonetta on, and I love Gears 2, but it disappoints me in terms of useability, no video copying or music copying like the PS3.
If Bioware do release both games on a single blu-ray for PS3, then I would highly recommend it to those who enjoy RPG's and shooters. It's not like a JRPG, and the TPS mechanics are a little clunky, but it is a great experience nontheless, particularly if you get right to the main story and skip the side stuff.
Highly recommend Mass Effect before playing ME 2. Might not have Uncharted 2's "wow" factor, but it is still heads and shoulders above many other titles out there. (I'm referring to 360 and PC games of course, PS3 has enough on its plate this year)

Of course, LadyDeath, a woman who thinks that gaming exclusively on the Xbox 360 makes her a "real gamer", would beg to differ.

The dialogue trees really shape your character and how others respond to you, along with how the story turns out.
if you have a decent PC, I highly recommend it, but I wouldn't put it above the PS3 exclusives like Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, FF Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, etc.
If you have the time and money apart from those games I listed, then Mass Effect is definitely worth having a look at.

I feel it is inevitable that it will come to the PS3. BioWare's constant dancing around the issue and only giving vague answers seems to confirm it. I believe that it is simply a timed exclusive and that we'll see it later this year. I figure by June we'll either see it or at least hear about it. BioWare made exactly these same evasive comments when people asked about a PC version of the first game. They denied it the same way and then announced it 3 months later, and released it 6 months after the console version.

I'm with you about Mass Effect. To me, they really nailed the feeling of adventuring in a science fiction setting. Everything has a clinical feel to it, even combat. And it's just slow enough to be strategic, rather than twitchy.
All these folks saying that it plays like a "generic 3rd person shooter" (even Ben) just really haven't played it correctly. There are so many ways to fight besides just shooting your enemy. I'd say the game barely even qualifies as a TPS.
It's almost certainly the best true Sci-Fi RPG I've ever played. And Ben and I have almost the same taste in video games, so I am shocked that we disagree so severely on this.

We've all seen how games that were made for the 360 have turned out once they've been ported to the PS3. For the most part the Sony players seem to get the shaft whenever they get something from the "other side" glitches, gameplay, etc.
I'll be honest, I was excited when the 1st ME first came out, and even though I don't own a 360, I did go over to a friends place to give it a try.
It was interesting but not good enough for me to want to buy a 360. Now, if the eventually release ME2 on the PS3, I don't see it doing well either, because it would still come across as a MS hand-me down, by the time we get a copy of it, the hype will be gone, and it probably won't play as well on the PS3 as well as it did on the 360.
Which kind of brings us back square one, the main reason you'll probably find that most people don't seem to excited about games that aren't PS3 exclusives? Because most games (not all) that are multi-plat don't play as well on the PS3 as the games that are actually designed for the PS3. This is slowly changing as the PS3 becomes more popular, but the Sony gamers have been burned enough times with variations of games that are glitchy.

I think you're spot on in your explanation regarding 360games ported to the PS3. However, I'm not so sure many people on this site or avid PS3 gamers share the same thought. I get the impression they for the most part treat any game that chose the 360 as a starting console to be sub-par. Owning a gaming PC has allowed me to play a majority of these so called "360 exclusives" and I've enjoyed quite a few of them.

Don't get me wrong, PS3's exclusives have proved that they trump other exclusives on competing consoles, but in terms of brilliant games like Mass Effect and Gears of War, they deserve more credit here than they are getting.
If it is a cost and money-saving problem, fair enough. I would honestly choose God of War 3, Heavy Rain and FF XIII over Mass Effect 2 (fortunately, I'm getting them all), but I am worried that this site will give way to close-minded fanboys on the PS3 side, and I know that Ben here is trying hard to keep these so-called "fanboys" out.
I love the games I play, I believe many deserve the high ratings they receive, but please, PLEASE do not knock AAA titles like Mass Effect and Gears simply because it "started as a 360 exclusive" and is therefore "broken".
I do understand that you all do not like games like Mass Effect, and if it is regards to gameplay, fair enough. But if it is to do with console exclusivity, then you have lost my respect.
I enjoy my 360 and Wii, and apart from the RRoD problem with early 360's, it is a decent console. Please avoid blind fanboyism like those immature idiots I see at Gamespot and IGN.
I for one would gladly accept Mass Effect and Gears on PS3 should they be released. I'm sure Ben would agree with Gears, but try to finish Mass Effect 1, and you will see why it is such a great game. Honestly, its the last 2-3 hours of it that truly make it remarkable.
One last thing before you all thumb me down, I have twice the number of games on my PS3 than I do on my 360 and Wii combined. The PS3 is my console of choice which is why I love coming to this website and chatting with fellow PS3 appreciatives. But this should not give way to 360 or Wii bashing and Ben has done an excellent job keeping it that way.

Monday, January 25, 2010 @ 2:40:34 PM
Hell, I've swapped a lot of discs in my time...
On a lot of the PS1 games alone, you had to swap out either 2 or 3 discs, plus there's a few more games that even did a 4-disc swap-out too.
I have 532 PS1 games in my collection so far, which is only about a 1/4 of the PS1 games made and after taking a quick look through my collection, I found numerous games that have multiple disc swap-outs........
2 DISCS
Carnage Heart
Chronicles of the Sword
Colony Wars
Command & Conquer (series)
G-Police
Golden Nugget
GT 2
Hearts of Darkness
Hive
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
Parasite Eve
Star Wars: Rebel Assault
Xenogears
3 DISCS
"D"
FF VII
Fox Hunt
4 DISCS
Wing Commander 3
Wing Commander 4
X-Files
And since there's another 1400-1500 PS1 games out there than I have, I'd think that there's got to be a great deal more multi-disc games out there.

But, more on topic, does anyone else feel a bit of deja vu? Kind of like a publisher has made these kind of statements before? It seems like it was just a short while ago a certain Bethesda was saying they couldn't comment one way or the other about DLC and trophy support for Fallout 3 heading over to the PS3 but what do ya know, it came out anyway. It seems that when certain industry players get involved in a game there are a lot of smoke and mirror tactics going on to make it seem like there is only one place to get certain titles and content even when common sense would suggest otherwise.

or should i say L4D all over again?
seriously enough is enough if they were going to bring either over to the ps3 they would of announced it by now.
i cant see bioware releasing ME2 on the ps3 without releasing ME1.
you cant jump into a series half way through it makes no seance, how are you suppose to understand the storyline?
id love to see both of those on the ps3, especially L4D but seriously enough is enough if you want to play them get them on PC or get a 360.
sitting on the fence saying there coming to ps3 every few weeks is not going to help.

I like Gears and Mass Effect, and I enjoy playing Halo with friends, so I bought a 360 (after trading many old games to get it cheaper). Same goes with Wii, I traded my Gamecube and some old games and got the Wii cheaper so I could play Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, New Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid and No More Heroes.
If you want a game like Mass Effect (and don't have the PC to run it) then save your pennies towards a 360. If it helps, the later 360 models have far, FAR less RRoD problems than the first few million.

cost me 100 bucks and had it for 8 months with no problems.
im starting to think either the RROD problem is only with early consoles or that its completely blown out of proportion.
ive had 3 xbox 360s one for a few months, one for over a year and another for a few months and neither have broken on me.
i keep getting rid of them because theres nothing i want on that system and i hate seeing it there burning a hole in my cabinet.
im very impatient, id rather get rid of one and get a new one when a game i want comes out than keep my existing one.
like i got rid of my latest 360 in late october even though im going to buy a new one for crackdown 2 and alan wake.

Programmers are aware of the first titles shortcomings, BioWare's programmers and artist are tweaking the game code and bringing this sequel to life. I also never did play the first so, I would like to try this that is if it doesn't take them that long to bring to the PS3. Hopefully by that time we get all the extra DLC.

With better combat, more varied dialogue, more streamlined levelling and RPG screens, no more boring side-missions and most importantly, no more boring long elevator rides, Mass Effect 2 will be a brilliant game, regardless of what platform it's on.

I am going to be getting ME2 this Friday but I am going to have to divide my time between playing that and my PS3 as I am in the middle of Army of Two The 40th Day (should have it completed by the end of this week fingers crossed). Also MW2 online takes up a chunk of my time too but im enjoying it so much playing online with my mate who I've not seen in years. We chat while were playing it so it's nice to catch up.
I have heard ME2 is supposedly better than the 1st one. So im hoping it is. :) I enjoyed the 1st one.

OK, perhaps it would be more accurate to save a console exclusive. However, the reality is that console games are not the same as PC games, and console gamers don't play the same games on PCs as they do on Consoles.
So perhaps it's shorthand to call it exclusive without prefixing it with the word console, but that word console is understood to be part of the context. So when a game is described here as exclusive 99/100 readers (at least) infer that it is a console exclusive at least.

The action, pacing, and graphics were all flawed in part 1, no question, and sometimes deeply so. But it was an enjoyable experience for me and considering the great reviews coming in for it, I'm confident ME2 is going to deliver on the promise of ME1. Just my two cents.

Funny, if they were to give us PS3 owners the Mass Effect series then that would probably make a lot of Xbox 360 fans mad, much in the same way us PS3 fans are made that Final Fantasy went multi-platform. It's really hard to know what will happen, but EA most likely won't pass on the money they could achieve.

Now a game series I really don't get the hype about is Halo. I just tried Halo 2 (for PC) for the first time (never played a Halo game before) and I *REALLY* don't see what's so special about that game?? It seems like a really bad-looking kiddie-shooter?! Seriously, it looks like Quake 1 with kiddie-monsters?? And it's not THAT old, there are a lot of much better looking games much older than that! What am I missing?? Seriously disappointed, I don't know what I was expecting, but I had no idea it was that bad...

The reason there is so much hype for Halo has to do with Bungie. Bungie knows how to support their community that plays their games. It's not about whether Halo is a great FPS but about how much Bungie listens to and gives back to those who play it. The online Halo experience is what makes the series worth the time and effort.
And before you try to label me a Xbot, I own both systems. I've played the great games on the PS3 and well as the 360. I'm so tired of the same old fanboy rhetoric about which is better. Both systems are great. Both has great games. The real winners in this console war are the ones that own both.
Sorry for the rant.

"As you'd expect, the PC game looks quite a bit sharper than its Xbox 360 cousin"
"And the texture popping problems exhibited in the Xbox 360 game were pretty much missing from the PC"
"...and there are a slew of improvements here that the Xbox 360 game will never get, like an improved inventory system. It's also nice that there are pretty much as many save slots as you need, which is a big improvement over the Xbox 360 game."
So I'd say the reviews certainly do reflect that the PC version is better...
Regardless though, point being: it's not an xbox360 exclusive, since you can just as well play it on the PC.
