Rumor: Epic And Platinum Collaborating On New Project?
We freely admit that game journalists often read too much into simple statements for the sake of good headlines and extra traffic. ...but sometimes, it's just plain fun.
The big rumor now is that Epic Games and Platinum Games may be collaborating on a project destined to turn plenty of heads. As noted by Examiner.com, there are a couple pieces of evidence that could point towards a unique partnership between the two talented studios in question. The first clue comes from GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley's Twitter page, where he said: "Watch on Thursday night and you tell me, but it's a big Epic title!" He keeps teasing some big unveiling this week and the fact that "Epic" is capitalized could mean something. At about the same time, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski added an update to his Twitter page: "Keep your eyes open for 'megaton face melting news.'" Okay, we've got Platinum Games, responsible for the recent Bayonetta, and Epic, creators of the critically acclaimed Gears of War and Unreal franchises...what might such a collaboration produce? Maybe Bayonetta has a steamy tryst with Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Maybe the latter suddenly have to stop the witch's antics, which have gotten out of hand.
Yeah, obviously, those two games won't blend but like I said earlier, it's fun to think about. The real question is, might this be the real deal and if so, what are they making together? Well, whatever it is, we get the distinct feeling we'll have to recommend a Xbox 360 purchase; the PS3 version of Bayonetta fell far short in comparison to the superior 360 version and Epic has been working with 360 hardware for years. But when two studios come together, you never know what can happen...

So, I'm thinking whatever the collaboration is between Platinum Games and Epic Games (especially with CliffyB voicing something), will mean that it will also be an Xbox exclusive.
PS3 fans... no news here... move long...

i think of this positive and im nearly 100 percent sure it wont be exclusive just because of the fact that the ps3 has been selling amazingly and if its a new ip i doubt they'd send it to only one system unless Microsoft has something to do with it

Any way LV has a good point. Any devs wanting to jump on the PS3 are not only helping bring new games to the PS3 but are smart for trying to tackle the PS3, hardware. It obviously pays off for a lot of devs. and ultimately us as gamers.

This isn't the first time I have disagreed with you and I am sure it won't be the last.
Until Epic and Cliffy B. can show me that they have what it takes to put out an 'EPIC' game on the PS3 instead of some shoddy port that you know wasn't worth the effort, then I will bash on Epic.
You may have liked what they have done on the 360 and PC (won't disagree with you there) but until they can show some ability to branch out and develop on a platform they are not used to, I will continue to be on the 'hate' wagon.
I for one would love to see more companies line up for Sony but only if they are willing to put in the work. Don't just release a game for the PS3 because you can get more money.

To hate on Epic for "shoddy ports" doesn't make sense. We got the superior version of Unreal Tournament 3 and PS3 didn't get the Gears games.
What we DO have, is developers using the UT3 engine to make some VERY good games. Batman and Borderlands for example. Both of which are not shoddy ports.
I'm not sure you were there during the whole Quake vs Unreal stuff, but if it wasn't for Epic and their Unreal engine, gaming would not have advanced as quickly as it did.
Of course you can feel free to hate them if that's how you feel. But disrespect them? That's not right.

I missed the interview where they said the PS3 was the reason for UT3 but if you look at any interview with Cliffy B., it is pretty much all XBOX love and putting down the PS3. That is where my disdain comes from. I was gaming when the 'engine wars' were going on but I was pretty much into Nintendo and didn't pay much attention to PC gaming at that time.
You make some good points, I will give you that. Personally, I didn't like Unreal Tournament 3 so I cannot back you on that one.
Guess we will just have to see what the future holds for EPIC and SONY.

Maybe collaborating with a another developer is just what Epic needs but I doubt it.
