Sony: Heavy Rain Risk Lessened Due To Faith In Developer
As we all know, releasing any new IP that has huge expectations from both the publisher and gamers alike is always a risky situation. It's the way of business.
And according to CVG, Sony understands that Heavy Rain is a definite "gamble" but at the same time, they also believe it could represent a revolution for the industry. The game has already received a couple review scores but apparently those sources don't believe in respecting embargo dates... Anyway, the Sony product manager for Quantic Dream's inspired vision said it's all about having faith in the team:
"Being Sony, I suppose we have a little more luxury to take a gamble on more original and innovative IP - and Heavy Rain definitely fits that category. I suppose the risk is lessened if you have faith in the team behind the game and David and Guillaume and the guys at Quantic Dreams have really impressed, not just in terms of their back catalogue - Fahrenheit - but also in terms of the tech demos they showed in the run up to Heavy Rain."
In addition, she said they'd really love it if Heavy Rain snagged some much-appreciated recognition (provided that recognition is warranted, of course). She added that there "feels like there is a real groundswell of anticipation from gaming communities and trade alike," and they'll be interested to see what happens. We actually do respect embargo dates so we won't say anything until February 10, but we suggest being around for that day...

That right there is the reason I bought a PS3. Sony has always delivered the most diverse library of games since the original Playstation. They keep taking gambles, and gamers keep winning.

I can see where they want to go with it... but I need to wait to see what the reviews say...

I was there for that and I think KZ2 lived up to the hype for the most part. Once they worked out the bugs it was a great experience.
I think KZ2 had to run up the hype wagon just because it took them so long to create the game and it was "dubbed" the Halo Killer by many.
I realize that QD wants to get the word out about this game to as many people as possible but they aren't really going up against any other games as this really is a whole new genre. I am really rooting for this game and QD. As I have said before....if done correctly, Heavy Rain could be special.

It has always been their motto.
ps1 is a testament to such risk taking. There was SO MUCH experimentation during ps1's generation. And probably even more during ps2's generation.
Heavy Rain will deliver

today i was reading the latest issue of OPM AU and they had a preview of heavy rain and the writer repeatedly called david cage, david jaffe.
honestly dont these people proof read their articles?
how humiliating!
anyway.
releasing a new IP is always extremley risky but if it works it paves the way for sequels to come, IPs certainly can be more beneficial than sequels.
i cant wait for heavy rain, i always really enjoy games with such a in depth complex storyline and heavy rain fits it to a box.
i cant see it getting too much praise though because of the pain in the a$$ controls, everything a QTE and apparently the first few hours are so boring they induce a coma!
i can see heavy rain being a love hate relationship, its going to be one of those games a few love but many hate kind of like assassins creed.
it wont be a instant hit where everyone loves it like GOW, kinda sad because i cant see this getting the recognition it deserves.
than developers will reflect on that and will be reluctant to follow suit because HR did it and it did not pay off for them so we wont do it.
we need more risk takers in this industry, people who dont take risks dont know how to live life.

Of course there's nothing wrong with a little unrestricted violence once in a while. That's why we have titles like Dante's Inferno and GOW3. (Rips off Helio's head in GOW3 demo) Yep nothing wrong with it, he just respawns on the next playthrough, see. To get his head torn from his body again. God...that's harsh.
