Kevin Butler To Continue PS3 Promotion Throughout 2010

There was a time when Sony's PlayStation commercials were just plain bizarre and didn't really resonate with a mainstream audience.

But thanks to last year's huge price drop and the hilarious Kevin Butler, all that has changed. Funny man Butler started plugging the "It Only Does Everything" campaign in the latter part of 2009 and I think we all remember a lot of those commercials. My personal favorite is the Uncharted 2 ad with the hot girlfriend where Butler finishes by saying, "...yeah, I'm gonna say this isn't a problem." And if you're a fan of such commercials, you'll be happy to learn that Butler will continue to spearhead these TV ads throughout 2010. According to an IGN interview with PlayStation Network director Peter Dille, Butler will be coming back and Sony is quite pleased with how everyone has responded to the campaign. Said Dille:

"It's been tremendously successful. Consumers love it. It's great to hear people like you guys love it. And the results are really in the sales because it's really been flying since this coincided in September with the launch of the new PS3."

He further commented that we "can expect to see Kevin Butler inject a lot of life into the PlayStation brand between now and the rest of the year." Not surprisingly, they'll roll out a few new ads when that highly anticipated motion controller comes out this fall, and we wouldn't be surprised to see some mini Butler comedies focusing on PS3 exclusives like God of War III and Gran Turismo 5. We've been seeing that MAG commercial a lot lately. So anyway, it seems we've got our spokesperson for a while longer.

Awesome, I think the MAG one is really good too. What IS difficult to believe is that it actually took them this long to start advertising properly. It's good to know all of us browbeating them last year has paid off :)

So why haven't we seen any promo's for those PS3 games yet...Sony is still dropping the ball on their best games, have been since KZ2 this time last year, you can't advertise a game 3 weeks before it release's or at the time of and think buyers outside the gaming circle will go right out and snatch it up, in reguards to the NFL promo, "Com On Man".....Oh wait thats not a promo, thats NFL Sunday Countdown..with Berman, Ditka, Johnson, Carter and Jackson

He was Vice President of Rumor Confirmation at Sony wasn't he?...

Perhaps not...but he is very, very good at it. Perhaps Sony should hire someone in that position?

He used to be a part of some funny Holiday Inn commercials.

Search for "The Business Guys Ted's Tan" at YouTube for one of the better ones. There are plenty of others too.

The commercials are great. Boom to the power of boom.

But I'm not sure that style would be best for GOW3 or heavy Rain. I think they should just show gameplay for the more intense mature games. I think it would maybe work better.

Sony realizes what it's consumers like and respond accordingly nice to see them pushing the advertising again. You have to admit it must have been embarassing for them to hear some people were thinking that the ps3 slim price cut was actually the launch of the console.

Sorry stevie dont know why this listed as a reply to you, i didnt click it.

It's been a long strange trip for the PS brand and promotion on tv. Went from something new to strange to normal and at the beginning of this gen, really weird (that crying baby? wow...). however I think PS hit the sweet spot with Kevin Butler. All of the tv spots have been pure gold.

I wouldn't mind however if they would have a GOWIII spot like the bloody rain one for the first game, with Linda Hunt narrating for old times sake. End rambling, over out.

Definitely better than the Xbox and PC ads. Though the Wii ads have that sort of clean cut cool-style you'd expect from an originally Japanese company too.

But nobody touches Butler!

Me: Dear Playstation, I heard that there was going to be a GT5 coming out for the PS3. Is this true?

Butler: Where did you hear that?

Me: I read about it all the time on PSXExtreme.

Butler: I will have to get back to you on that one. I haven't heard anything about a GT game coming for the PS3. Sorry.

Just kidding of course. I love these commercials and I hope to see them even after this year.

I approve of Kevin Butler. His Sony PS3 commercials hit the spot. I think we'll be seeing a lot of him for years to come. I can't wait to see his upcoming MLB 10 advert with Joe Mauer. He's going to prove that a man who won the AL MVP Award, the Gold Glove Award and the Silver Slugger Award in 2009 is flawed.

For any the guys/gals who have never seen the original Playstation 9 commercial(or for a moment of nostalgic times), this commercial was done during the early years of the PS2 so Sony was really thinking outside the box.

And it's completely mind-blowing what Sony was thinking about back then, to even put inside of the futuristic PS9.

Some quick info on the commercial....

In the year 2078, the PS9 is a crystal sphere.

You open it up & out pops, Electronic Spores that go straight to your Adrenal Gland......

Retinal scanning
Holographic Movie Surround Vision
Mind Control System(not sure I'd like this one)
Telepathic Personal Music
Tele-portation

Here's the link to the commercial
(FYI, hit the "FULL SCREEN" button so you can feel the full immersion of the PS9 commercial)
