Report: Prototype Developer Loses Half Its Staff
We always like to run positive news but everything isn't always roses in gaming; it's a business, after all.
Unfortunately, it seems that Radical Entertainment, the developer responsible for Prototype and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, has been hit with considerable layoffs. According to sources close to the Vancouer-based studio and as reported by Kotaku, over 90 employees at Radical have lost their jobs. That's about half the entire studio, which means that two of the three internal dev teams have been affected by these layoffs, and this likely means we won't see a Prototype 2 any time soon. Radical is owned by Activision Blizzard and the publisher didn't list a Prototype sequel for their 2010 schedule, which will come as bad news to fans of last year's action title. Most sources recommended inFamous over Radical's game but the latter still sold relatively well and many were indeed hoping for a follow-up effort. This doesn't mean Radical is over and done with, obviously - they didn't shut down the studio - but that likely doesn't come as much of a consolation to the team. It's never easy when you lose half your workforce, regardless of the industry.
But Activision has a plan for every year and if you don't fit well into that plan, they're going to try to optimize profits in another way. Such is the way of big business, no?

you have these really cool powers extremely effective against a small amount of people, but against the whole city?
your like a fly in a city you get beaten alive!
in superhero games you either go with outrageous attacks which make the player feel invincible.
or you go the infamous way with smaller but more honed precise attacks.
you either go in with a chainsaw or with a laser, there is no in between and thats where prototype fell apart.
not to mention it has so many bugs to rival mercenaries 2.
