Rumor: New Forgotten Sands Details

We really enjoyed the first Prince of Persia to come our way this generation, which is why we're always searching high and low for fresh info on the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

Slated to release this May - alongside the movie, I believe - this one has remained a bit of a mystery since its announcement. However, according to a poster over at NeoGAF, we may have some baseline details for you. Although the magazine in question isn't named, it would make sense that a publication would have a feature on Ubisoft's new project; the timing for an unveiling seems just about right. If the facts are correct, the game will be a sequel to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time from last generation (which we kinda already knew) and perhaps most interesting is that although Elika will not return, we will get a new partner. Her name is Razia, and she will apparently control the "elements/magic." And rather than the one-on-one duels from the last PoP - which admittedly got a little tiresome - the developers have returned to fighting multiple enemies at once; lots of enemies, as more than 50 may be on the screen at any given time. The Prince's powers will include the now-standard Rewind, Fire, Air (reach new platforms, swirl winds, etc.), Earth (i.e, fix a broken pillar), and Water (freeze or unfreeze).

This all sounds very interesting; it's almost as if they're infusing some RPG elements into this one, although we know it'll play like a standard, relatively straightforward action/adventure. Oh, and we also know the cel-shading is gone, too. We'll let you know when more info arises.

The fact that its releasing around he same time as the movie doesnt give me much confidence. History tells us that movie/game tie ins dont end well

No doubt it will be a test for movie/game tie -ins again!?! It will be interesting to see how it pans out; problem is I have been spoilt terribly by Uncharted 2... how do other developers beat that?

Anyway, we will see if Sands can stand on its own merit... with such an incredible line-up of games dropping over the next 4 months gamers may skip this one, or torture their wallet further at their own peril...

I know that I simply cannot get more than the AAA exclusives I have saved up for so I may let the sands of time slip through the hour glass on this one for now :)

Q!

I was hoping for a sequel to PoP. This movie tie in stuff doesn't do it for me.

I think the only tie in with the movie is they will release closely together.

I dont think the game has anything to do with the movie. but the movie is called "the sands of time" so if anything it will have more elements from that game, not this one.

It's not going to be anything like the Transformers, or Iron mans, or anything like that!

This is great, I love the PoP games. I'm glad they are going back to the roots of what it is though, I loved PoP and would love to see a sequal to that. But Sands of time was brilliant in that generation, and the sequals were great too.

My only question is, is this a direct sequel to Sands of Time, or a sequel to the trilogy, and will it take place after The Two Thrones?

Yes, direct sequel. Between sands and warrior within. I^m just wondering how many years past and how the Dahaka fits in. . .

hmm interesting. I kind of wanted to see events after the Two Thrones, but o-well. That still doesnt make me less excited.

I'm rather glad it's not a sequel to the PoP of this generation. The ending of that one (not counting the DLC) made it a true one-shot story. The game is a circle. Making another makes no sense.
Going back to the "original" from PS2 is best. It had the better narrative and was the most coherent. That's what I want to see them do, a truly coherent game.

It sounds like it will be unique indeed! I hope their new plan will be better balanced as an action game.

Never been a big pop fan, but I think the only one I played was a lousy one or something.

Sands of Time was game of the year back when. Its really good. Maybe you played Warrior Within which is definitely the weakest of the 3 in that trilogy.

Lol i think people really dont read articles if they are saying that this is a movie tie in game. "If the facts are correct, the game will be a sequel to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time from last generation"

And HipHopGamer did an interviews with the director of the new PoP game and he stated that this will be a continuation of the old prince from the trilogy.

nice cant wait for this.
i just hope the tedious puzzles from the last PoP are gone.
im glad they went back to the dark gritty feel of the game, i did like the cell shaded, fantasy styled game but not as much as the original style.
i hope and im sure ubisoft will go back to that, probably next PoP but for now im glad its gone.
thats what they should do make 1 PoP as the old style, and one as the new cell shaded style.

When I found out this does not pick up the story where PoP for ps3 left off.. but instead is a movie to game cash in.. I lost all intrest.

I dont think its a move to game tie-in.

Remember PoP was a game long before this movie. I think the only significance is that its being released in the same time period. If im wrong correct me.
