God Of War III Cinematics And In-Game Visuals The Same
If you've been following God of War III closely, there's one site you should probably see: the blog for SCEA animator Bruno Velazquez.
He hands out plenty of information and the latest is awfully intriguing: while the first two GoW titles certainly boasted CGI cinematics, there will actually be no true CGI in the third and final installment. SCEA says their in-game PS3 engine is plenty capable of blending the non-interactive sequences with the interactive, so there's basically no difference between the two. Said Velazquez in regards to the very latest trailer:
"Everything you see is 100% in-game. All camera features, including motion blur, run real-time in the cinematics and in-game. For this game we decided to try and blend in the cinematic sequences with the in-game sequences, so all models and assets are used for cinematics and for in-game.
The Kratos that you will control will be the same you see in extreme close ups, no smoke and mirrors, no model switching. There is no CG cutscenes like the ones in previous GOW games. What you see in cinematics is what you get in-game, no difference. We didn’t want to have any jarring changes in detail between gameplay and story."
Well, that's just plain awesome. One could argue that the cinematics and actual gameplay of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are very close, and you'll soon see that Heavy Rain looks the same between non-interactive and interactive scenes. But to have it in God of War III is a special treat and once again, we find ourselves salivating for this blockbuster. It's less than a month away now...

The Uncharted 2 visuals at the moment are amazing... really do appreciate what the developers have done with this title.
Can't wait for GoWIII, but will have to wait a few months before picking it up :( ...probably around June...

So many times the story annoyed me so much I'd want to put it down, not the length and lack of gameplay just the characters and how they acted. Except I kept thinkin, "Buts its visuals are so wonderfully consistent. I can't wait for GoW to be like that."
PS why would anyone want white? It appears dirty way faster and some of the most subpar consoles in current history were white. I'd like a see-through neonish one. That would be a beaut. None of this black, white, insanely average red and despicably generic blue bs.

The best example I can remember of this is when Snake and Maryl's team knuckle up to take on the Frogs. It flows right from the cut scene into the action with out loading or interrupting the moment at all.
Man what a great game that was.

alan wake will be interesting though, its a massive gamble i hope it pays off and is not another alone in the dark disaster.
i was so pissed when they announced its not coming to PC, and their excuse was just PATHETIC!
if your going to give your fans the finger at least be honest with them.

Mass Effect 2 looks like another Unreal game just a little more refined. Its funny how most of the games you mentioned as being some graphical achievement over their predecessors are done with one of the worst performing and looking game engines this gen. Unreal! Of course slight changes will be apparent but like is said, Its nothing compared to the differences we saw from Drakes Fortune to Among Thieves. None of those games even look as good as Drakes Fortune.
As for Halo Reach? please if its anything like STDS then people are seriously up for a disappointment.

hes brutal, but i cant see him killing his brother.
plus the making of heavily hints at where the GOW series is going after GOW3.
we know almost nothing of kratos childhood or his family so 50 bucks says kratos dies in GOW3 killing the gods.
than herc in revenge of his brother steps up and takes over.
only thing i cant pick is who or what is going to be the point of the next game?
the gods will be dead, well thats what GOW3 is hinting at.
so if their dead what will be the objective in the next games?

A friend of mine who finally got a PS3 was blown away at the Heavy Rain demo. Of course he still wont admit that the Xbox is incapable of that kind of graphical power.

Where as the ps3 has more of a RAM limitation on it's graphics card ( though clever, dedicated 1st/2nd party studios have been able to get around by taking advantage of the Cell and using clever texture streaming and frame buffering and taking advantage of the faster XDR video RAM), the 360's biggest limitation is not the RAM, nor even it's disc space (even though the DVD9' 9.4GB limitation is compounded by lack of standard hard drive, the faster read speed/transfer rate of DVD vs Bluray's does have it's benefits for many current gen multiplat games), but the hands that are developing for it. The 1st/2nd party support with inter-studio IP, knowledge and R&D sharing that Sony has to dedicate to getting the most out of the ps3, is what MS is missing.
In other words, the 360 is pretty much limited to it's 3rd party support, who are committed to making a game that will sell, rather than being able to sit back with R&D and get the most out of the 360.
Although Cliffy B from Epic was able to get MS to double it's Graphics Card RAM (from 256 MB to a total of 512MB) when Gears1 was being developed as a launch title, which of course they wouldn't be able to do again for Gears2, one must only compare the two games to see how much Epic has plateaued in pushing the 360. On the other hand, one must only compare U2 to U1, to see how far Naughty Dog has come in tapping the ps3's potential.

PS3 has bluray (50gb), 360 has DVD9 (9.4GB).
But DVD reads much faster than Bluray.
But PS3, has standard harddrive, which can install cache files to reduce load times and increase transfer rate.
But 360 has twice as much available RAM which allows even more immediate transfer of data, for texture loading, assets, and levels.
But ps3 has 256MB XDR RAM for video at 3.2Ghz, and 256MB GDDR3 available for general use, instead of just GDDR3 RAM at 700Mhz.
But 360 has 512MB GDDR3, that is a totally available and sharable for general use.
Ps3 has 7 3.2Ghz "SPU's", single-thread, for "specific" use.
360 has only 3 3.2Ghz "cores", in the xenon chip, but they are double-thread, and are "general" purpose.
In other words, for every strength or weakness each system has, it makes up for it somewhere else. They each have bottlenecks, and even for the average multiplatform developer, supposedly, 360 is more simple, accessible. But that is yet another bottleneck. The 3rd party developer is only going to tap in to the system as long as it is simple to do so, and as long as it is profitable for them.
Sony's studios, are fully funded, and don't have to worry directly about profit, so they can fully focus on making quality products, and fully tap the ps3 to showcase it, as they have been hired to do so.
And that is why we see games that are multiplatform generally perform a tad better on the 360, where as very few games come even close to Sony exclusives.
