ESRB Details GoWIII Sex Mini Game

We knew the third entry in the acclaimed God of War franchise would boast another sex mini game, but we also heard from the developers it might be a little different...

And so, we should probably turn to the ESRB to get the proper description. Now, we weren't big fans of the social commentary they injected into their description of Dead or Alive Paradise, but this appears to be a standard, straightforward explanation. What we read here is actually a tad disappointing, though, because it sounds exactly like what we've done before (with the exception of the two observers, of course). Here's how the ESRB describes the interactive sex in God of War III:

"The game contains a sex mini-game. Players will encounter a goddess and her two hand maidens, all topless, all holding and caressing each other. If players wish to, they may join the goddess (and only the goddess) in bed. Actual sex is never depicted as the camera drifts, then fixes on the two maidens, who watch from a distance. As players respond to the on-screen prompts with button presses, the topless maidens will continue to watch, and sometimes caress. Moaning sounds from the bed can be heard throughout the sequence."

Well, the imagination starts to reel concerning those two watching maidens but if they were doing anything to each other besides "caressing," we're sure they would've mentioned it. It's also interesting to note that in the past, it seemed as if Kratos was getting it on with multiple chicks at once; this sounds like a more traditional one-on-one encounter. ...well damn, has Kratos gone all family guy on us? Er, based on footage we've seen, probably not.

And because this is a sex-oriented article, I would like to add that despite the explosion of Heavy Rain actress Jacqui Ainsley onto the Internet, we will not be bombarding you with articles about her obvious hotness. Those aren't even articles, really. Besides, I don't wanna look at her while I'm working. It's a little depressing to know someone out there looks that good and all I can do is talk about how good she looks. From a personal standpoint, it's just irritating.

Ben, she's hot. But, believably so. A recruiter of mine is hotter (no exaggeration). I avoid meeting her in person, for the same reason you can't look at Jacqui's photo while working. A tip:

Sometimes when I wanna get a someone out of my head, either I hook up with her, or I imagine her getting really old, or pms'ing. Usually does the trick, either way. I have a friend who told me he justs imagine them taking a giant dump. A similar technique.

Ok, for the record, I admit, I haven't played the first God of War games "yet", so I haven't experienced these mini games. That said, what is the point?

Heavy Rain's nudity (I assume since I haven't played it yet) had a point to be in the game. With the Dead or Alive games, that is what the game is all about, so I have no problem with it. But with God of War, what is the point to these mini games? Just to add a little T & A? Do they just add this in for shiggles and gits, or is there a point to show how over testosteroned this God is?

I have read on this site how video games/video gamers don't get "respect". You can hit a home run with a game like Heavy Rain, but hearing of this story, gives the gaming community a strike in my book. Button mashing while a simulated sex scene is happening and topless chicks moan and caress. Hmmmmmm, I don't get the need.

Ya know how JC Chasez tried a little too hard to break his teen heartthrob squeak-clean rep as the singer from N'Sync by coming as single performer with a song like "All night long a think about sex..." (not that I was ever in to pop music or whatever)? I think that was Santa Monica's attempt with GOW, and those mini-games. It's clearly not for kids. But yeah, World's right. It's just there to show how beasty Kratos is.

I dont think there is an actualy point of the sex mini games, besides entertainment, and the quirky humor at the end of each. But I will say that in those times sex was as relevant then as it is now, and much more open, despite the array of adult entertainment in our generation. the spartans and even the roman ages were very sexual. I think the sex mini games are there as part of that time period.

Its like even in the show Spartacus, on starz. It's a great show and it includes every aspect of that time period and that includes sexual interaction, even though the show is based around the gladiator arena, and a man going from rank, to slave and his journey to get his life back.

It may not be needed but it adds a little zest to the gameplay, although it adds nothing crucial to the storyline.

I found these games entertaining, at the time there was still a tiny bit of shock to it since not many games were doing nudity and it kind of set it apart. Now there's nudity everywhere, did you guys see the size of Satan's dong in Dante's Inferno? That sucker was swingin.

Say Ben do you think they modeled Madison's boobs after Jacqui's? One can only hope right.

The level of maturity in many of the posts has been extremely low. You don't have to tell me that whenever there is an article that mentions sex in a game it will generate comments. But unlike most places, PSXExtreme generally has fewer articles that have a 'sex' angle, and the comments are in general more mature and civil, not immature and puerile.

It's not about one person it's about the general tone, and there were others who are not regular posters here who were dragging that tone down. It's not so much that your posts were particularly offensive or something - they weren't. Off-topic perhaps, but off-topic is a natural hazard of human minds communicating.

The thing is that the general tone of the thread went south at warp speed. It wasn't your comments in particular. If I had to single out anyone I'd probably start with the one that got banned.

I'm not normally one to apply moral zeal to a conversation, and I'm the last person to want to censor anyone's thoughts or words. If you want to know what set me off, look at the comments by "fuk u" - assuming they are still visible.

The only thing I said in reply to any of your comments was to question how far off topic we were going. I said nothing about your comments being offensive. I made a general reply about the tone of the thread and I think three people have so far taken it as a personal affront to them. It's all in the math:
The PS3 x Cell engine + Sex mini-game + Kratos = even more sales.

Can you imagine if Sony put that in there "it Only Does Everything" ad campaign?

I dunno, GOW games don't sell THAT much when you consider how many PS2's are out there. I looked at the numbers a few weeks ago. 360 franchises put GOW to shame in terms of sales, and the PS2 has sold somewhere around 140 million consoles I think?

It may not be a secret, but neither is it accurate.

People tend to compare PS3 exclusives to the MOST successful cross-platform games (i.e., COD) and Halo. That's like comparing Iron Man (the movie, not the game) to Avatar and saying nobody went to see Iron Man because it didn't put up Avatar-like box office.

Compared to 360 exclusives other than Halo, PS3 exclusives sell roughly the same.
