Split/Second Secures May Launch
Need an intense racing game that's kinda like Burnout only with more in the way of explosions and insane near-misses?
Then you might be interested in Split/Second, the high-octane racing title that, according to GameSpot, is now cleared to launch on May 18 in the US and three days later in Europe. The developers describe this experience as "racing through an adventure game;" you're actually participating in a fictional TV racing show where anybody who isn't completely insane stands no chance of winning. You'll have to drift and draft your way through a continuous onslaught of deadly obstacles and thankfully, you'll have the option of a power meter. Once full, you can unleash certain explosives placed around the track, hopefully derailing some of your opponents in the process. Basically, you want to blow stuff up in order to drop a bunch of junk in the path of other racers, which sounds like a massively cool idea. Black Rock Studios is behind the wheel for this one; their most recent project was Pure, an excellent off-road racer featuring ATVs. But this time, they're going with super fast sports cars, immensely destructible environments and enough adrenaline to fill an ocean liner. Like, seriously.
So if this sounds like it's up your alley, you'll want to give it a shot come May. There may be other titles higher on your priority list right now, but aren't most of them coming out before May? You'll need something to play.

However I see the ladies have found a way to achieve even more bounce in the PSP DOA bubbles video.

In reality there weren't really a lot of "pretty" women in the old west because they weren't tough enough to survive the harsh conditions. Sure there were a few that made it but a lot that couldn't hack it. It's interesting how these guys aren't relying too much on the sex sells option for this game.
I kind of respect that.

If Split Second can fix it's lag and framerate issues, and is less than $70 Australian, I might give it a look.
But GT5 and Modnation Racers is much higher on my racing list. (Not that such a gaming list exists anyway)

its about bloody time some developers started making car combat games.
now i have sega and sonic all star racing, BLUR,mod nation racers and this to look forward to.
mod nation is my favorite though, probably because its the only one ive actually played but even judging by vids it looks like the most fun.
who said you need a wii to enjoy cart racing games?

The Sega & Sonic All-Star Racing does actually look fun and ok graphically. I think I may try the demo soon. Currently the only kart racing/batlle combo I have is Crash Nitro Kart (PS2).

besides GOW3, crysis 2, mafia 2 and RAGE, mod nation racers is my most anticipated title for this year.
crash team racing was the last crash game ND worked on, and coincidentally the best game they ever made!
what i would do for a HD remake with trophies for that.

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for the following, but the battle car games never really did it for me. Even though I found Twisted Metal interesting (here it comes ;P) the game never managed to hold my interest for too long. I know everyone raves about it, but maybe it's just not my genre of gaming, I don't know.
Give me racing like GT5, give me arcade racing like Burnout, but if you want to add a gun? Give me SOCOM or a tank level in a FPS.
But I was wrong once back in 1989, I could be wrong about this too, we'll have to wait and see. :D
