SCE Acquires LittleBigPlanet Developer
As far as business news goes, this seems to make perfect sense from all angles.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has announced that it has acquired Media Molecule, the designers behind the critically acclaimed and multi-million selling LittleBigPlanet. The formerly independent studio will now join SCE's global development operation and "formalizes the successful executive relationship with SCE." The idea of "Play, Create, Share" came with LBP and has proven to be a creative boon for the industry; other developers are already building upon that concept as the PlayStation 3 exclusive, ModNation Racers, once again puts the player in the customization driver's seat. With a total of over 90 counted awards for LittleBigPlanet - this includes 8 AIAS Awards - the Sackboy gem was one of the first great games for the PS3. Said Shuhei Yoshida, SCE Worldwide Studios President:
"Since they burst onto the gaming scene, Media Molecule have proved to be a truly exciting and innovative studio, who have proved their world-class credentials with the creation of the incredible LittleBigPlanet. SCE WWS is all about creating ambitious, innovative and ground breaking games, traits that Media Molecule clearly have. To bring them into our family proves our dedication to creating fantastic new experiences that we believe will cement our position as industry leaders."
Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans says SCE has "consistently shown their dedication to Creative Gaming" and he praised the company's "willingness to take risks and embrace our often unusual approach and ideas." You can bet we'll see a lot more from MM now, what with SCE at the helm. However, this may not mean LBP2; the team has long since said they don't need a sequel as the longevity of the original title is seemingly without limit. Either way, this should be a solid partnership for both parties.

Yeah, SCE & MM were in bed together, but now they gone ahead and consummated the relationship.
Shame you missed the wedding though, it was "simply mahhhhhvalous"....
MGS4 & KZ2 provided security, keeping the paparazzi away,
both Kratos and Ratchet & Clank provided the entertainment,
free open bar was provided by Blue Lagoon,
ModNationRacers provided all the limos to the church & reception.
And MR & MRS LittleBigSCE Planet's 2 week honeymoon Rapture was courtesy of Bioshock travel agency.
Please be advised: gabby newell & booby kotex were turned away at the gate numerous times
Oh BTW, Sackboy made a cute ringbearer!!!

Buy and fund great developers to secure future titles and market share or buy and fund current projects to secure an immediate advantage over something in hopes that ever time you do it it will be the killing blow.
It's like education versus a decent paying immediate job. Sure the immediate job will pay off right now but you will always be in the same pay bracket for the most part. The educational route takes longer and you don't see the immediate benefits but in the long term it pays off higher.
Sony an educated company or Microsoft the manager of the Burger King down the street.
No offence to any Burger King managers, I'm sure you're doing just fine.

That's actually a very nice compliment by Evans. Sony has not gone stagnant in it's efforts to bring entertainment to the masses. Sure motion controls took off because of virtual bowling, but Sony has never turned it's back on new ideas and creativity.
Bringing this kind of developer into it's family shows just how broad minded Sony really is.
