PSXE Update: Secret PS3 Exclusive Looming Large?
I know a lot of you have been asking about the secret PlayStation 3 exclusive we told you about in the past, and I also know we haven't given you an update on the matter in quite some time. In fact, we've refused to talk about it for over a year.
But perhaps the days of silence will soon be over. We have this...oh, let's call it a feeling, that the game in question will be announced at the Game Developers Conference in a few weeks. It takes place in mid-March and based on the information we have, it seems like a distinct possibility that 'insert secret game name here' will be revealed to all at that time. For the record, it is not Resistance 3, which we expect to see this Friday on GameTrailers TV. That one is a given and wouldn't exactly be surprising. I suppose this exclusive we know about won't be too surprising, either, but it certainly hasn't been officially announced or revealed, which is why we've kept quiet. We're half-tempted to just blurt it out right now, but we keep our damn promises. Yeah, we keep 'em for years, if need be. In all honesty, we've been a tad concerned that we haven't heard anything about this project; any time this happens, the words "Duke Nukem" hover ominously in the air, taunting us with the depressing "vaporware" possibility. But we're fairly certain this is gonna happen...it's just a matter of when.
And that "when" could be fast approaching. I'm still not entirely sure why Sony has treated this whole thing like a CIA black bag operation - who the hell ever heard of a game you can never talk about? - but hey, we abide. Someone will have to explain the reason for all this secrecy at some point, though. Stay tuned.

I think the key word there is officially. And when Ben says "it's just a matter of when.." all I can think is.. "Soon B*tch"

Outside, that is, from every publisher/studio who gives psxextreme a pre-release, reviewer's copy of a game, of course. But since, the game is about to be announced, as opposed to being released, it's safe to say we're talking about Jaffe.

Some of you might disagree, but just imagine Jak and Daxter given the attention Uncharted 2 got... plus, Lost Frontier left a bad taste in my mouth.
P.S. I'm highly doubtful that this is the case, but a guy can hope, right?

What do XBOXers say that is bad about the PS3? It has no games? I have heard that one, and it is laughable. Bad online? I'll take the PSN over paying for online anyday.
Now let us make fun of the 360 is peace please.

I'm not praising nor defending the 360. All I'm saying is that out of nowhere, members on this site flat out bash the 360 and use the excuse "they do it to us so it's ok to to do it to them." THIS is a childlike mentality.
"I'm Sorry to say but the site IS called PS Extreme, what do you expect? "
Not extremists, that's for sure.

I come here for the playstation news, but when i look to the comment section, i see bashing of a system that quite frankly i don't care about as much nearly as much as the ps3 and im doubting the bashers care about it also bu the keep giving knee jerk reactions. But we are all entitled to our own opinions, i just hate seeing people stoop to others level, thats all

i point you back to Stewart blacks statement a few days ago, every shooter is take cover, shoot, take cover, shoot, move forward, rinse and repeat.
extremely repetitive and boring!
haze swapped and changed that, kept you on your feet, and the sudden gameplay team change was brilliant!
had a decent story to boot!
its quite obvious where they could take the story, there was a heavy hint towards the end of the game as the hellis leaving listen to what skineater says.
doubt it would ever happen though because free radical own the IP and there now owned by crytek.
i cant see crytek sending them off on a project like that, again same reason as heavenly sword.

Often times devs have to keep very quiet on new games for copyright issues, or simply the fact that they don't know 100% that the game will ever see the light of day.
Being involved in the video games department here the local university, I know of a few games that havent been announced that are being built right now by local devs, we have both EA and Disney Interactive here close, to name a few...But its more of a "not sure if the game is going to work out so lets keep quiet" kind of thing. But I can tease, my profile pic is concept art from an upcoming un-announced game!
But we all know that Twisted Metal is coming.

especially the battles at the end, OMFG i did not think it was possible to fit that many enemies on screen at once, you were literally walking on bodies for 50KMs.
will never happen though because ninja theory own the IP and they said there threw with making exclusives so im not sure what the contract is.
maybe they could do another one, but it would be MP but i really can not see another heavenly sword coming out.
sadly :(

mirrors edge 2 has not really been announced but EA have said they have a small team working on it, so in other words were working on it but not too far into it yet.
maybe a E3 announcement, maybe later in the year but we definitely will see mirrors edge 2.

game announcements are always treated like black CIA covert top secret information, thats nothing new.
my moneys on twisted metal as the secret exclusive, than syphon filter 5 or the crash bandicoot remake for the GT trailer.
i know resistance 3 will be announced this year, but it will be a E3 announcement along with infamous 2.
all i ask from E3 this year is a twisted metal, syphon filter 5 and infamous 2 announcement if they have not already been announced obviously.
and a massive media blowout for Agent, im dying to get some snippets on what we can expect from that.

What I mean is there is never a game that sits in development for quite literally years, gets to within months of release, and has never even been announced. Big games will be announced when they START development. They'll be announced WAY before release in order to get the hype started.
No, we've never heard of a game you absolutely can't talk about for no apparent reason, all the way up until the very year (supposedly) of its release. That's not normal.

But for the most part you are correct, most game studios/publishers cant afford to be that picky.

jesus christ ben im not a idiot, id does not take a brain surgeon to figure out developers will announce games months before release.
they have to so retailers can get ready to receive stock, take preorders, prep the media for reviews, get advertisement ready.
and for your information developers DO NOT! announce games when they start development.
the last guardian for example BBC i think it was were shown it 3 years ago if memory serves me, and only last year were they able to come out and say yes it is the last guardian only because sony announced it at e3.
killzone 2 for example was in development for a month or 2 before they announced it.
mirrors edge 2 began development early this year have they announced that yet?
insomniac are working on now 2 projects have they been announced?
developers dont announce their game till
1 ready to do so.
2 they have a solid idea on what the game will be about, characters storyline things like that.
3 has been greenlighted from the publisher and they know it will not get canceled.
developing games is a extremely expensive procedure thats why we dont see many games get canned because the developer would be throwing a massive amount of cash away.
not saying it never happens because it does heist for example was announced 3 years ago and was officially canned last week.
it does happen but very rarely.

I read somewhere that Slant 6 (SOCOM Confrontation) is working on it.
It just makes to much sense, and here is why --
- SOCOM initially had the 256 player servers spread throughout multiple games.
- MAG now has a server with 128 vs 128 in one game.
Battlefront has always been about big battles. Perhaps the folks at Lucas Arts were impressed, and Sony wrote a check that will contribute to the momentum that the PS3 Slim has begun.
Star Wars fans buy games. Alot of them too.
