Bioshocks Reach 7 Million, GTAIV Hits 15 Million Worldwide

If you haven't had the pleasure, Bioshock and Bioshock 2 are two of the best games of the generation. So much fun, with great stories and those wonderful RPG elements in a FPS format.

Well, Take-Two's financial numbers are in and both of the aforementioned titles have performed admirably. The original Bioshock has now reached the 4 million sold mark and the sequel, released just last month, has already shipped 3 million copies worldwide. These are fantastic sales totals and should hopefully result in a third entry in the popular and critically acclaimed franchise, where Little Sisters and Big Daddies will once again converge (or maybe they'll go for a whole new environment and story; who knows?). It was also announced that Grand Theft Auto IV has hit an absolutely mammoth number: 15 million sold since its release in 2008! Many gamers are split on GTAIV, seeing as how it's a definite departure from previous iterations, but the bottom line is that it remains an elite title. Some didn't like the realistic additions and they missed the historic settings of the past, but at the same time, others really embraced the new look. Either way, 15 million sold is just downright nuts...now where's GTAV?

Well, the chances of GTA ever being exclusive again are less than zero. You can't really achieve 15 million sales if it's exclusive to one platform, regardless of how good it is. No, Take-Two wants the money and they need the biggest audience possible. That won't include the Wii, of course, but then again, it really can't.

But, how could BioShock be that good? On the PS3 it is sub HD, and apparently that means a game is a failure. Or could these highly enlightened folks be wrong?

Pushtrak, it's been known for awhile that the PS3 version actually had better cut scenes and texture quality then the other versions.

Bioshock is a good game. Take it from me. I hated the game and had a hard time playing through the 1st few hours of the 1st one but once I finished it I couldn't deny how good the game actually is.

My point was completely missed. I see.

My point was sub HD or not is completely meaningless. Only the quality of gameplay. BioShock is a fantastic game.

Edit: For the sarcasm? Well, what we know was sarcasm, and others seem to take as utter seriousness. Daft.

Your post was very clear to me but I don't recall your other posts in the comment sections. It was the wording that made it quite clear to me.

I still haven't touched GTAIV as it doesn't interest me. It's the setting and lots of the music and dialogue that bother me. Much in the same way that wussy-Pesci-type character annoys me in Bayonetta.

I've gone over all your posts, Pushtrak. Just about every last one is either in veiled defense of the 360 (as it is here), or an indirect poke at PS3 owners.

If you honestly think you can fool me with the "veiled" and "indirect," think again. So knock it off.

Secondly, Akuma, anyone who actually reads my articles - and apparently, you don't - knows I have no problem with the 360. Hell, I defend it more than ANYONE ON THIS SITE. Your point is irrelevant. Why is he defending Bioshock's quality? Why is he accusing someone of saying that the game is bad on the 360 because it's sub-HD, when he's the first one to comment?

It's bait, nothing more. The comment is unnecessary because nobody ever called the 360 or the 360 version of Bioshock into question. If you can't see that, I'm sorry.

You completely ignored my reason for issuing the warning, even after you specifically ASKED for the reason. Unless you can find something wrong with that reason - and you can't, considering it's painfully obvious - I can't seem to understand why you have any problem whatsoever.

And by the way, it isn't your place to "calm people down." And your obvious implication is that I have a problem with people who defend the 360, which further implies you don't read anything I write.

Platinuming inFamous was arduous. Getting the last few shards was a pain, but accomplishing all the stunts was even more excruciating (well, at least the last few since the majority of them were achieved spontaneously just doing a normal playthrough). Playing as Hero definitely makes the stunts easier. But, you'll have to be play as infamous to get a couple of other trophies, too, so having many save points is definitely helpful.

What I recommend for the shards is divide & conquer. Start off on each island by scouring the perimeter of the island (because these are the only shards that aren't arranged in a crumb-trail that you will come across during your regular playthrough). Only two shards don't show up on the gps. One is in the Neon district, towards the west on the broken docks. It won't show up on the gps, because it is too far off the coast, but it is clear as night & day if you look for it. You'll have to hop 5 or so pillars to get it. The other one is in the historic district at ground zero, on the very top of the tallest building (this is the area you start off in the game). It won't show up on your gps until you are half way up the building.

Depending on your display settings of your TV, the blue shards might not show up on the water. So, you might have to adjust your contrast, or brightness. The shards should be a couple shades lighter than the water.

After you've scoured the coast lines, open up your map, and mark a block. Then, circle and climb around each block. When you're done, mark the next block. Also, it helps to ride the train tracks.

To avoid this incessant task of pinging and back-tracking, during the game, just follow each shard as you come across them, as the majority of them are arranged in a crumb trail. And don't hesitate to take detours during missions, because the majority of the missions aren't timed.

Basically, if you've done this, you only have to scour the coast lines, and there only two hidden shards that I've mentioned. This should get you all 350. Keep in mind, these 350 are aside from the ones you are rewarded with by successively completing missions.

Let me know if you need any guidance on the stunts...

That would be ironic. As games start using more and more space on discs and more and more games on the 360 will require mulitple discs. Forget the RROD syndrome, the next thing to hit all 360's will be bad disc drives. The mechanism that opens and closes the tray will break from over use.

Pity.

@ kraygen - I did the same thing. Scoured the three islands with maps in hand. Was still missing one... It ended up being the one at the very tip of the needle of the highrise right at the blast site on the third island (Historic). You get that one? It does NOT show up on your radar until you climb high enough.

thanks to everyone for the tips, sadly the 2 that everyone described here are ones I have. The one way way out in the water i got really lucky and happened to see it. The one way up high, well in games like that I'm addicted to seeing how high I can climb at any point that there is something tall. I swear I've spent between 15-30 hours after completing everything looking for that 1 shard. Crisscrossed each island, standing at each corner of each building, checking from ground level, halfway up the building, and the roof. Circled each island going out as far as i could into the water, drowning myself a lot. Rode trains both directions, on the front car, the rear car, and mid car. (shrugs)

Knowing my astronomically impossible bad luck, I have the one game in the universe that is glitched 1 shard shy of completion.

The problem with that is, say, you're on a chase passing through a couple of cities, or you to have go back and forth, the player will have to keep on switching discs each time.

Kraygen: Yeah, I was pretty much at the same spot as you. But rest assure, the remaining shard is visible on your gps. I eventually found my last one on the coast line in the neon, after 'thinking' i had done that 10 times, already. Since a lot of areas look repetitive, be sure not to skip any. Since you're down to one left, I wouldn't start over if I were you.

I would check each bridge, even the broken one, and the the south one in the neon district that doesn't lead anywhere. Also the Prison has a bunch, so make sure you can make it to top. There is one on top of the entrance where you fought Sasha. I would check, the cranes in the docks in the warrens, and the area containing the tower you fought the old dude at, and the closed off compound where Zeke was held captive.

If you haven't completed all the side missions, I suggest doing that, and finishing the stunts while doing so. If you were careful to follow each crumb trail to it's end during the regular play through, it really should by hiding around the edge of the ports along the docks.

Good luck.

I just played Infamous for the first time a couple weeks ago and all the hype was right but I havent touched Bioshock at all or the GTA series. Maybe, millions of people are on to something? Guess I can always rent and if it is everything that people say then I can buy it. Bioshock looks great but it doesn't look appealing to me for some reason. It's like I would prefer to hear about a lot of these games rather than experience them myself if that makes any sense. I just have to be careful money wise with all these student loans and school going on but I will give Bioshock a try. Probably not GTA though.

Oh and Ben Dutka, I used to only read news over at the G4 site and I am pretty new to this one but I find myself here a lot more than there. You do a damn good job of keeping everyone up to date on the ins and outs on everything PS3 and your previews and reviews are top notch. I can clearly understand what you are saying as well as points you try and get across. Over at the other site sometimes the reviews read like jokes by Dennis Miller and that sort of thing isn't for everyone. Great job on this site and thanks for having me.

Thanks. We always like to newcomers...the more they stay, the more they realize we're pretty darn cool. ;)

Condemned, there is no better website for PS3 news. When I first started surfing for PS3 stuff over a year ago, this is the site I kept coming back to. The writers are great, and participate in the comments section, and the users that comment are memorable as well.

Can't say I enjoy your avatar though, good god man, that is freaky! ;)

News is up to date to the minute. The editorials offer fresh perspective, and are exceptionally thoughtful, coherent, and easy to read. And the reviews are live-for/die-by accurate for me. They hold the distinction of being unfettered of bias, they are passionate, yet clinically-accurate. As I said before, they are the closest thing to me playing the game without me playing the game (at least that is how they resonate with me). And they are particularly helpful for me when deciding on a game that I wouldn't normally have given a chance to. All this, and the awesome staff and good friends at psxextreme still manage to keep a wonderfully friendly and personable relationship with all readers. I don't know what site on the net, game-related or not, shares this distinction with Psxextreme.

It's one of the lead singers of my second favorite band Mushroomhead. His name is Waylon Reavis. Always liked the picture. Think it reflects my mood most of the time.

Yeah the comments are great on this site. Not a lot of name calling and junior high school antics but a great mixture of seriousness and humor both on and off topic to keep me coming back not to mention the news I get here I usually can't find elsewhere. I think the administrators have made a lot of industry friends over the years because if it's news, it's always here first.

So....... 8.5 minutes is the magic number, huh???

Then all I can say is a certain miniature goblin-type someone with shockingly-pink blown-out electrified hair, and who's last known address was listed as "UNDER THE BRIDGE", has already used up all of their allotted time here!

Bye, bye....Pushtrax.

GTAIV is in competition with resident evil 5 for the most disappointing title of all time.
hell take the R* north badge off, take the name GTA off and you would not even know its a GTA game.
as for bioshock 3 they have already announced it when they finished bioshock they announced it was going to be a 3 part series all in rapture.
from the style of bioshock 2 ill bet the story will be elanore going back to rapture to free all the little sisters, and maybe find a cure for the splicers.

Whoa, GTA IV was great. This hate towards it is so unwarranted.

I do not understand this hate for GTAIV either.

WHen i read bens article and he said that people thought GTAIV was a diffinate departure from the series, i had no idea what he was talking about....

I STILL DONT.

Is it not a departure in the same way that San Andreas was?

GTAIV was exactly like the rest of them.

SA was definetly a departure from the series ill give you that but it was successful.
it has the best gameplay of all the GTAs and is one freaking massive world!
GTAIV was a massive letdown for so many reasons.
1 half the freaking game your a bloody taxi driver. drive me here, drive me there, take me home. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!

2 they tried to make it too realistic and that took away from the fun factor of the game.
one of the best funnest things to do in GTA was to just drive around like a idiot and take massive jumps you cant to that in GTAIV.

3 the cops are so freaking hard in GTAIV.
in san andreas vice city or even GTA 3 i can hold off the cops for hours just toying with them, in GTAIV im lucky if i last 5 minutes against them.

4 they have taken away the exploration, you can not fly planes or helicopters till the DLC.

5 the weapons were no where near as good as the ones in well any other GTA for that fact.

honestly theres not enough ink and paper in the world to list what was wrong with GTAIV.
