Times like these make me think SE is really losing their sanity. They make what is the most controversial FF to date (and not for good reasons) then they act surprised when they find out fans want them to remake the best FF they have ever made.

Is Square in tune with their fans at all any more?

I have to interject here but I am almost certain that the day after they said FFIV was going to be an exclusive MMO they recanted that, in a surprise move at E# they revealed that FFXIII was no longer an exclusive, and I am not going to be the least bit surprised if they announce that FFvXIII is going to be multiplat as well. I will be pissed but no not surprised.

Point being that I don't really think we will see another FF that is exclusive to the PS3 even a FFVII remake I think would go exclusive if it could and that's the reason they won't make one.

If there is another exclusive FF game it will be FFvXIII and that will most likely be the last one. Sorry folks but you just have to look at the trends and infer for yourself really.

if they make the battle system somewhat similar to X-2, it may be awesome.

No, i havent been drinking either, im being serious. Of course it wouldn't have the dresssphere grid thing but what i mean is how the ATB filled up and you made an attack, if others made an attack right afterwards, it would chain together, having both attackers hit at the same time.

I thought that was awesome when they implemented that in X-2. that game caught a lot of flak and rightfully so imo, but the battle system was one of the better ones on a FF game, give or take a few things

But i dont think they should do a remake, maybe a damn good sequel but not a remake

Good God man, what is going on over there? Squeenix must have lost their minds. We have only asked for a FFVII remake about a billion times. Every time the subject comes up people start hyperventilating.

I just don't understand why they would do this. They know we want it, and they knew this news always lights up the rumor mills all over the net. So why would they do this just after telling us that it couldn't happen?

They cannot be that stupid. They must get some sort of sadistic pleasure from stirring things up like this.

You know Ben, I remember when you said that you would just not listen to any more of the remake news, and I thought, "Oh come on, don't give up hope!" But now I know how you feel. I'm so tired of this story popping up again and again, just to be shot down. Until SE comes out and officially announces a remake, I'm just going to ignore it. I'm tired of them playing with my head.

Nah. You'll never understand the subjectiveness of the Final Fantasy franchise.

You get people going "FFX! I LOVED that game!".

Then you get someone going "Nah, FFVII is the best. You should try it sometime."

Then some ghey comes along and goes "I prefered FFVIII more than VII. It's a better game." Then: "No way. VIII was pansy with the most plotholes ever."

Then suddenly out of nowhere there's an angry: "Damn, I HATE you people. Why can't you understand that VI is superior than the rest?"

Then spawns an argument about which villian is more evil, badass, or stronger with idiots calling Kefka a gay clown & Sephiroth a Mama's Boy. [Though Kefka is definately more evil, Sephiroth is definately more badass, and no one's stronger than Neo ExDeath].

Some kid goes, "What about Kuja?". He gets shun down [c'mon, Kuja is pretty much homo insecure narcissist], but then the FFVI fanboy goes on saying how FFVI & FFIX are his favourites since it isn't all "crappily futuristic."

And then FINALLY, the elder comes in, tells everyone to STFU because FFIV reigns supreme.

I hear you say that you don't have to for hours, but if you want all of your characters to have the best stats you do have to do it for that length of time. Certain abilities boost stats way more than others, so by not having 100 magic equipped to that stat you're gimping your team. Then you can't use that magic unless that monster is available or you want to lower your stats.

I'm not saying the game was bad, I'm just saying that the magic system left something to be desired.

I just thought of something disturbing. Everyone is going to read about this, get all excited, then SE will announce next week that this wasn't the policy of the company, it was a sole employee acting on their own initiative and does not in any way reflect anything that SE is doing. Then everyone will be all upset again over yet another FFVII rumour being started, and we'll be back to square one.

Your comment made me think about how seriously they WILL F*** this up, no matter what they do. If they add voices they'll catch hell from the hardcores (The voices will be wrong no matter what to them) If they don't add voices people will b**** that they should have (We have technology etc.) If this becomes a reality it will be a double edged sword for them. The example above is just one of many design decisions the developers will face. This would probably outsell MW2 especially in Japan.

I'm completely happy with the original as it is. Some classics shouldn't be remade. A remake can even hurt the originals legacy if it's not done correctly. Especially if people have never experienced the original. And in some cases, those that have.

Its not food, we are talking bout the video games industry, an industry that manages to completly reinvent itself every year. Change is always going to come, you adapt to it or fall by the wayside. IF its a time tested formula for success, it gets carried on, if not, its left behind. That's where turn based gameplay went.

Im actually going to go with LV on this one... just because you don't like turn based games doesn't mean everyone else doesn't. Gaping over generalizations certainly do not make anything more true. Turn based is simply less popular, that doesn't mean that with the right production touches and marketing it couldn't be successful. Considering FF-7 is considered by many a fan to be the best FF or best RPG ever, I'm quite certain plenty of people would buy it, turn based battle system or not. (-:

Ok obviously Square Enix has had their heads in another place, while there are die-hards dead against it, the majority want a FF7 remake. I couldn't care less the original was good enough for me, but I would like to see the KOTR & the Golden Saucer in 720-1080p Let's hope if they do it they are smart enough not to "westernize" it, but if they were surprised the fans wanted a remake who knows wtf they'll do.

Yeah, to tell you the truth I was kind of expecting a return to the glory days of turn-based RPG's when I bought my ps3, I thought this was rational thinking at the time, then I played Oblivion it was my first real 3rd person RPG (Unless Baldur's Gate counts) I remember thinking "When do I meet my party?" and "Are these actual people playing online?" LOL Then I got Demon's Souls and after walking around with Ostrava from Boletaria for 15 minutes I realized he wasn't going to join my party! That and the departure of turn based this generation has disappointed me so far with our RPG's. Hopefully Demon's Souls 2 will at least have full-time co-op.

typical $E first it was no we cant do it because its too hard, now its o all these people want it imagine how much cash we could make.

while on the subject of remakes i really hope insomniac do decide to do a remake of the R&C series.
i doubt they will do it because well they said there not putting in trophies for TOD because its "too hard work, and for no reward."
so if putting trophies into a game is "too hard" than i cant see them going back and remaking the whole R&C series up to TOD.
would be nice, no i would fu**ing FREAK! if they did it, but i wont hold my breath.

you dont get it, we are asking for a remake not a completely different game. they can upgrade the graphics, sound, and maybe voices. as long as its the same as the original then it'll do fine.

I dunno... I like ff7 the way it is right now. The only thing they would improve would be the graphics. And maybe add a Materia fusion system like in Crisis core, but that's it. Plus I worked really hard to get all the final Limits for every character (am currently trying to finish FF7), I've got every ultimate weapon except Barret's and Cait Sith's, and all I need to do now is kill Emerald and Ruby weapon, and then kill Sephiroth. Would be a pain to do that all again. On the other hand, it would be awesome to see the WEAPONs (I mean emerald, ultimate, ruby, diamond etc) in next-gen HD. So again, I dunno... I say go for it.

Man I've beaten that game 5 times now, over 120 hours each time, cause I did it all. Loved every minute of it every time. There is no feeling like taking 2 Knights of the round up to Sephiroth and saying Eat this. AAAAAh yeah!

SE and Wada are Genius's.

I have been saying it for a couple of years now. It's so obvious, can't you see what's been going on. Remember the ffvii test trailer from a few years ago. Remember how your heart stopped beating, you wet yourself, cried, and laughed at all at the same moment because you couldn't believe what you were seeing and it was so, so wonderful.

SE and Wada have been playing us all for years. They've been developing this game for years already. Think about it, every time people start to forget suddenly there's some comment or video, or tiny little glimpse of a mention and ffvii regains the front page. People screaming this time its for real.

SE has always delivered stories that draw us in, and the ffvii remake is just that. The entire process is one giant secret story bent on keeping us on the edge of our seats, so the day that it is announced every gamer on the planet says, "Yes I will buy that!"

Don't be surprised if we get ffvii special ps3's, Uber deluxe editions, controllers. The whole enchilada people.

I'm telling you it will happen and this whole thing on twitter is just another ploy to make us all scream, "yes we want it."

All of SE is sitting in their offices smiling, thinking, "We are going to be so rich."

All I can say is, "Bravo SE, Bravo."

Turn-based is not extinct, it's simply...endangered at this point. People today have this insatiable urgency for action. They wanna act and do as quickly as possible. This is the reason for the lack of turn-based games this gen so far. I miss the old days when strategy, reasoning, and experimentation won you the tough battles. Nowadays, those with the quickest reaction time reign supreme. If they are gonna do a ff7 remake , please, do it justice. I don't think I can accumulate anymore disappointment from JRPG's without imploding.

@Kraygen, couldn't agree more, VIII's battle system was retarded, I hated drawing it was too damn stupid, then if you needed to used junctioned magic YOUR STATS WENT DOWN, and the limits, don't get me started.

Now I refuse to believe SE doesn't realize we want a remake, they're keeping ppl on their toes until they finish Fabula Nova Crystalis. and if they modify the battle system they should leave an option to go back to good ol' ATB

EDIT: I remember nomura said once "There's one missing part to finish the circle." Then there is Dirge of Cerberus' secret ending where Genesis flies away with Weiss in arms. Next Villian Omega-Genesis??? Idk remake or sequel it could go anyway.....

Copyrights can expire and the copyright laws protecting video games are a lot more loosely defined than copyright laws protecting say music and films. And also the parent company that developed the game can opt to buy out of the copyright if mutually agreed upon which would be dumb on Sony's part but also the loophole in this whole ordeal is that the parent company that developed the game doesn't technically exist any more which could allow a really good copyright lawyer to find reason enough to void the copyright.

With the actions of Square-Enix and the shear market brutality that Microsoft exhibits I wouldn't put it past them to try a weasel manoeuvre like this.

Doesent Sony have the distribution rights for FFVII??? thats what ive heard, if they do then Sqeenix cant make it for the crapbox 360.

And squeenix has not made a good FF game since FFX, and the completly destroyed FFXIII by going multyplat, and they make excuses for why the game has no towns or open world..its funny other JRPGs have towns in this generation.

And if the last few FF games indicates they will most likely ruin the Remake, unless they bring back the original staff of FFVII.

What they should do is Remake FFVII, Make a sequel, put Advent children movie and Crisis core and Dirge of cerberus all in one super colectors edition on the PS3 only. Like 2-3 BD disks set. To make the sequel wont take long they would have already most of the stuff done becouse of the remake of VII, and the sequel could be like 5 years after Advent children.

First disk has Crisis core and FFVII remake, second disk has ADvent children and Dirge, and last disk has FFVII sequel.

Sell it for like 125-150$ make 1 Billion$ everybody happy, and Squeenix can continie making crapy games and screwing up the other IPS

Heck I'll buy another playstation if they'll just remake this right. Make a special edition for ffvii remake, put built in memory card reader, backwards compatibility, a large hard drive, special graphics on console(not a sticker), sell it for $500 bucks. I'd buy it and so would lots of others.

Well, now I think we can, maybe officially, say that SE gets the idea. And that's just from Japan. Like you said Ben, if they were surprised at just how much attention they received from Japan, open your eyes to the world SE. We all really want this thing.
If it ever made its way out of Japan (highly doubtful), there would be no doubt, I would preorder a copy the moment preordering became available. Even more so if it were exclusive, which it would be even more appreciated if so. But, if not, I wouldn't care too much, I'd still buy it.
But, I think the real question now is, would the remake soar? Or will it fall?

Don't get your hopes up guys and please if you don't believe me or doubt me in anyway, you can if you want to but. Well you know how Square Enix has been denying the FFVII remake for all this time. Well, what would you think that the secret black project game that Ben told us about could very well be FFVII. NOW PLEASE, DON"T GET YOUR HOPES UP. I"m sorry if I did but, it seems for all this time that this is turning suspicious. FFVII is what gave a big influence in RPG's, I would think that Square Enix does not what to them to know what else they are doing.

Now I like Final Fantasy VIII more and making a remake on that, I would buy that in a hearbeat because it has been favorite game ever since I played as a child. Of course, this secret game that everybody wants to know is not gonna be said for quite awhile. So only time will tell, but I my only guesses are that it will either be the new Twisted Metal or Final Fantasy VII. Please, don't get mad at me for saying it's Final Fantasy VII and it turns out to be that it's not because I know a lot of you love that game.

Most of it has to do with the journey. Finding out how they got to the ending and enjoying the gameplay should far outweigh any previous knowledge regarding the ending.

IMHO they need to leave it alone. That's the problem with MOST of the so-called FF fans. They wont settle for nothing less than a remake of FF7. Anything that's not 7 will instantly get bashed for the most part. I personally believe that's what all the hate on XIII is about. People trying to force square into a 7 remake. all i gotta say is...DONT DO IT SE!!!! the only reason people want a remake of FFVII is because its the 1st FF they played.now, if your a true FF fan you would know that VII was only good because it was no longer 8-Bit and could be produced on disc, allowing for better graphical and space capability.heck, if any of the 8-bit FF's were in 3D polygons like FFVII, the hype for VII would be less. but VII was the gateway for most FF "fans". real fans thought it was good and looked better. personally, FFVII is good but, its not the greatest.

I disagree, and I don't appreciate you claiming that if FF7 is my favorite, it must have been my first. It is, and it's not (in that order, if you're keeping track). Maybe it's the Aerith (Aeris) factor that won me over, or perhaps my interest is just more rounded with the additional FF7 stories of late that make it more complete, but the fact of the matter is that while I'm not going to debate which is "better" (completely relative and impossible to concretely prove anyhow), there are far more reasons for fans to want a remake. The fact that there are newer gen games to round out the story are a good start... then you could discuss the fact that FF7's strategy guide alone sold over 1 mil. copies and how ff7 remake would produce revenue... then you could make an extra point about the newer generation of gamers who loved Crisis core or were captivated by Advent Children, but just don't want to play FF7 because it's outdated (let's face it, ages 18 and under are REALLY not interested in anything pre-PS2 IF that. no matter how good.) For me, graphics were not what won me over. In fact, it took me a while to get around to FF7. (PSX was a big buy for me at the time. Didn't graduate from SNES to PSX until around the time FF8 came out... If it were a graphical issue, I'd have been won over by FF8.)

Look, there's lots of HC FF fans in here. I am definitely one of them. FF7 was not my first, but it is my favorite for a lot of reasons. I'm just a little tired of some of the folks here trying to act like they are somehow above the average FF fan simply because they appreciate the classics. The fact of the matter is, there would be more hype over a FF7 remake than any other FF, and it would SELL. Why else would the embellish on the story in as many ways as they already have? And don't try to act like you wouldn't be all over that... especially if you're a real FF fan.

I just had to create an account to share my point of views.

I've been around for a while. I know the business, I know the rules. In this world, the most logical solution never is the best.

I believe that a remake of FFVII is essential. One of Square's greatest game ever created would get them back straight on the line.

Square has been off ever since it merged. Going back to the roots would do good for them. Actually, doing what they know people like and go from there.

SE must now man up and show us what they've got, or they're out of the business. You can only come so far with a fantasy. SE tries to be innovative, sure, I'll give them that. But sometimes, just sometimes; just show your guts, listen to your fans; I rarely see that these days.

Create games from the heart, not by the brain. It ruins the entire reason of gaming. There's nothing to lose but a tad of your pride, you can always rise your head back up again.
Equal trading, give something to get.

However, the Japanese people carry a lot of respect within themselves and wants to emit nothing else. Perfection is the only goal. I love SE for what they do and what they have done for the gaming industry. So it's sad to see them fade away, all because of their pride.

Speaking from a personal perspective, though staying anonymous, I know what I'm talking about. A simple click on the reset button would be the best solution for SE to get back in track. Love comes from the heart, war comes from your brain, don't think, just do, right?

We had to go back to our roots to learn what we lost. What we did it for. But it gave us the right kick in the ass to create one of the best games ever made.

I just felt like sharing some of my experiences and thoughts with you people and I hope you guys appreciated it and perhaps learned something of it.

Let's hope we make the right choice.

I’m going to be painfully honest here.. But let’s face it. Square/SquareEnix hasn’t released a decent game since Final Fantasy X. To me it has just been one disappointing game after the other and it has gotten to the point where I can’t even look forward to seeing a game being pushed out by my once adored and utterly revered game company. So.. Of course, the mere mention of them “remaking” Final Fantasy VII makes my gut churn. I would rather them not have the chance to ruin this game by remaking it with their inability to even make good games now. You’d think “If they remake it from scratch just as it was and polish it up really pretty like, there is no way they can mess it up!”

Why would any of you actually believe that an seemingly washed up company, who apparently adopted a no more good games policy at the end of 2001, would be doing us any favors by remaking the timeless classic that we grew up with and love to this day? You people should have seen it coming with X-2! I mean, I know people seem to think us gamers have no dignity, but I’m going to ask that they spare us the shame ahead of time. Yes.. Get mad at me.
