2K Signs Agreement To Bring Playboy Into Mafia II

Well, it definitely fits the atmosphere, right?

As revealed by VideoGamer, 2K Games has announced it has signed an agreement with Playboy magazine "for a unique in-game intergration to use more than 50 of the publication's vintage covers and Centerfolds in Mafia II." In the game, you'll be able to find and collect all available mags; Playboy has been enticing men since the first issue hit newspaper stands back in December 1953. This is a game that will thrive on the surrounding environment and the inherent culture, which is why this agreement seems to make perfect sense. Said Christoph Hartmann, 2K president:

"While most mob-inspired games' emphasis is solely on action, Mafia II features a deep and compelling narrative that is embellished with a sophisticated, era-evoking atmosphere. In partnering with Playboy, we are able to add a unique element of authenticity to the game by using vintage images from the magazine that illustrate the power of Playboy’s influence on the attitudes and culture of that generation."

Playboy's Editorial Director Jimmy Jellinek added that because the game is set during a time when the magazine "first came into vogue," the early issues will "bring an element of authenticity to the game that is unmatched in the men's publishing category." As far as men's magazines go, Playboy still considers itself to be the standard and if you don't agree, at the very least, we have to see the publication as a pioneer for that particular industry (like it or not). And seriously, what self-respecting mobster didn't have the latest copy of Playboy laying around his house back then?

Mafia II is set to arrive this fall for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

This sounds along the lines of a statement I read from playboy a little while ago. I think it was one of Hef's sons that said they wanted to take the magazine back to it's roots. To when it was considered a somewhat "classy" skin mag. They wanted it to the days when Marilyn graced the covers. Better journalism and classy photo shoots is supposedly what they want to strive for.

Putting classic photos into a mobster game, might be their way of trying to get young gamers to get that 'nostalgic' feel of the way things used to be..

You know I loved the first Mafia and I'm hoping this one does it justice, one of the very very few multiplats I'm looking forward to. Couldn't really care about the playboy thing tho, I highly doubt I'll be cheering for joy because I collected all the playboy issue's in the game.

As a side note, I gotta say how much I love the posters on this site. I laugh all the time when I read the posts. You guys crack me up.

this is my game for the year, seriously screw everything else just get every developer in the industry working on releasing this NOW!
its been WAY! too long since i had a decent open world game to wreak havoc in.
at this rate im going to be needing a ps3 and a TV in my retirement home the way there going.
