GoWIII Expected To Be The Best Selling PS3 Exclusive
God of War III is a little over a week away, but we already have a slew of glowing reviews and the anticipation of many, many PlayStation 3 owners.
PS3 exclusives haven't exactly heated up the sales charts in the past, but that was usually due to the much smaller user base. Even now, while the PS3 routinely outsells the 360 since the price drop, there are still about twice as many 360 owners as PS3 owners in the US. However, as the PS3 ownership group continues to grow and massive exclusives like God of War III drag down some of the highest review scores of the generation, we should expect thing to change. Said EEDAR vice president Jesse Divnich:
"Uncharted 2’s sales were unprecedented, selling more units than any other previous first-party title on the PS3, but because of its small install base great games like Uncharted 2 will always fall short in comparison to multi-platform titles and exclusives on other consoles. However, as the PS3’s install base continues to grow, we can expect future blockbusters such as God of War III and Gran Turismo 5 will set new records for the console."
That really doesn't surprise anyone, as GoWIII has a big pre-order lead and the game certainly appeals to a wide demographic of gamers. Both Divnich and Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter expect huge sales for SCEA's new masterpiece. Divnich says GoWIII could top 2 million sales in its first three months of availability, which would make it the fastest selling PS3 exclusive thus far. Pachter agrees and adds that both GoWIII and Gran Turismo 5 "have more mass market appeal than Uncharted 2." For the record, Naughty Dog's landmark title should be closing in on around 4 million sold; it was announced last month that it had surpassed 3.5 million, so...how high can it go?
Anyway, I think most of us expected GoWIII to sell the best of all the exclusives, right?

But hey it'll definitely promote the PS3 considering how much work Yamauchi sama is putting into that game by sort of delaying it a heck of a lot of times. I mean didn't we expect it to come out last summer? Anyway...I think it would be a nice gift this holiday season.
Don't forget Killzone 3 and Resistance 3! Oh and of course...God of War 3.

One of the main reasons the GT5 delay was a great thing is that the install base has over a year since its boom last quarter to further blossom. The release of GOWIII will bring another boost of PS3s out there and hopefully GT5 will have found the best balance between waiting for the install base to grow, and not waiting too long so as to make the game stagnant.

Anyway, my wife -- who will play Guitar Hero/Rock Band, racing, and fighting games (games she can easily grasp the concept of) and who owns a DS -- is interested in this game every time she sees it on X-Play or GameTrailers TV. She also thinks the upcoming Joe Danger game looks like "fun." I'm slowly turning her into a gamer.

So proud and happy for the Dogs.
GOW III will sell systems which is very important, as will GT5. Hopefully U2 will show some long legs and cross the 5m sold threshold along with MGS4 (fingers crossed)!

As for the comment above about play GoW1, then skipping GoW2, and going straight to 3... please don't. Both 1 and 2 are outstanding games that shouldn't be missed!
But if you really, really, really need to skip one of them, then I'd suggest the first one. Only because the buttons are changed slightly for the second and third games... (no more rapping on R2 to open doors!)

The best selling exclusive for Sony should be Gran Turismo 5, without a doubt. Look at the history, GoW (1+2+COO) has sold...less...in it's lifetime than any _1_ of the full GT releases.
GT1 - 10.85 mil
GT2 - 9.37 Mil
GT3 - 14.89 mil
GT4 - 10.52 Mil
GoW 1+2+COO (This includes sales of the God of War Collection) - 8454000
I strongly believe (and seriously hope) that GoW3 does much much more strongly than it's predecessors. But, to say it has a chance against GT5...I dunno, seems a bit daft. Either way, both are fantastic exclusives to have launching in the same year!

I don't think there's any question about whether it will or won't. I'll call it right now, it'll be in the top 5 within weeks. For exclusives*, the PS3 really hasn't sustained huge sales on a title for very long. Right now the highest selling exclusive title MGS4 is only at 4.59 million units sold. So, as I said, it shouldn't have any problems getting into that crowd with the publicity it's seeing.
*Don't really have access to PSN#'s, but it's highly possible that the best selling PS3 exclusive is GT5 Prologue, the retail versions at 3.6 mil and it's been avail for D/L since launch.

it's nearly impossible for an exclusive to beat a multiplat game, unless if it is on WII ;) ...
GOW 3 & GT5 will sell well, yet i hope that they do move the console sales, then even UC2 & others will see their sale rise...
I know for sure where at least 2 God of War 3 & GT5 are going (yeah, me & one of my friends are already on it LOL) ...
cheers!
cheers!

am i the only one that doesn't care for this game? there was a lot of epic action (truly)...
but as any button masher i got bored rather quickly.
and to say that it has the same score as UC2 is strange to me cause i find UC2 so much deeper in many aspects...

I was still luke-warm on it, until about maybe 3 hours in... Then, it just CLICKED!
The GoW games just plain rock! Their production value, attention to detail, and amazing graphics just captures you.
I'm also a huge fan on UC2, and I normally hate button mashers, too. I was never into the DMC or Bayonetta... which are similar games to GoW.
But GoW is something special. You need to judge it on more than just a demo. Borrow or rent a copy of the GoW Collection, and play either one for a few hours. I think you might enjoy them! =)

I understand that not every game is for every player (I'm personally not very excited for GT5. I prefer arcade racers to sims.), but I'd agree that GOW3 is still worth a rental even if you didn't like the demo.

Playstation 3 has some great exclusives and most of them are not shooters. I mean Demon's Souls; God of War III; Heavy Rain; Infamous and Valkyria Chronicles are some of the best games I've played this console generation (Minus GoW III since I haven't played it yet, but I'm sure it will live up to my lofty expectations) Could you imagine if we only had Wii and 360 to choose from? I don't want too...

I mean, all the 35+ stores(& 3 malls) that carry it in my area alone, are all out of 120 & 250 consoles just as soon as they're in stock,
And it's been that way for at least a couple months now.
Just think how higher PS3's sales figures would be skyrocketing too,if only every single store had a much higher stockpile in
which to sell from.

Honestly for "bestselling" exclusive I can see it being real close with GT5 and GOW III but if GT 5 keeps getting pushed more and more they could loose a little bit, since GOW has not been pushed back, developers have been on target with this game since announcing it but time will tell we really can't predict who will be the Bestselling exlusive till both are on those pretty shelves.

GT5 has night time racing, weather effect, damage. Each factor doubles the variation and appeal than it's predecessors.
