Square-Enix Seeking Talent For "New Generation Game Engine"
Yeah, yeah, let the speculation and rumors begin. Just keep the insanity to a minimum, m'kay?
First of all, you should visit Square-Enix's Japanese site; if you can't speak Japanese (welcome to the club), check out the translation and explanation over at Andriasang. Thing is, it appears the company is recruiting for a new game engine; the headlines read, "Seeking the highest level of talent" and "New generation game engine development project starts." They go on to talk about the emergence of powerful consoles dedicated to never-before-seen visuals, and that video game graphics could eventually exceed that of movies. And in the future, "reform" won't be enough; we'll need an actual "revolution."
"At Square Enix, in anticipation of the appearance of next generation platforms, we've started development on a new generation game engine for competing beyond the level of the strong developers throughout the world, and are presently seeking a lot of talent."
Available jobs include game engine system programmer, 3D graphics core programmer, online system programmer, technical artist, and more. They all ask for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 experience but obviously, the most intriguing part about that ad is Cloud's visage tacked to the front of it. Of course, Cloud is essentially the mascot for the company at this point, so it probably doesn't mean anything but even so, it's worth noting. ...right? I mean, we could all leap to absurd conclusions and say the first project that utilizes this new engine will be a Final Fantasy VII remake. That'd be fun.

What comes to mind... well with the ATI and nVidia GPU's now beginning to include 500+ cores on a single wafer we are getting to the point where we will be generating CGI high definition visuals during gameplay and not just in-game engine cut scenes...
I trip over to the nVidia site will reveal the extraordinary power of Fermi... 512 cuda cores alone, can you imagine this card in SLI format on a PC rig... can you also imagine the cost.
The FERMI provides real time polygon tessellation... a huge jump in real-time mesh density scaling; you won't see a circle object look like an octagon... incredible.
So maybe the first glimpse of getting an engine ready for PS4 hardware? Maybe Sony has already handed over a white paper to the developers of what to expect for new generation hardware?
I think the speculation starts now :)
Q!
" play . experience . enjoy "

He admitted that M$ft came in and said it wanted a chip similar to the Cell but with some modifications for the 360. He details the initial disgust of the Cell team over IBM's betrayal of its Cell partner Sony but how they ultimately did what their IBM bosses wanted and shared the Cell architecture with the 360 chip team.
There was an interesting book about all this corporate espionage.
If I were Sony, I'd use AMD or some other company.
I really don't understand how M$ft hasn't been litigated out of business over all its deceitful and theft of other's intellectual properties and its borderline hostage taking of every industry it enters, from Windows to IE to Real Player to the Zune M$ft hasn’t passed on stealing someone else's ideas than basically forcing manufacturers to make its products the default programs on 99% of PCs.
Sure, M$ft hasn't been able to bully some of its competition out of business or a smaller market share (like it did with IE or Real Player) like the Ipod or Tivo but it sure tried.
M$ft has never met another company’s product it didn’t steal.

Why anticipate something that you haven't done a lot (or not very well)?

Here's my speculation. FF7 MMo. Yup they are looking for someone who knows how to handle online as seen in MMO's.
Watch now as the world screams in anger as they receive a ff7 mmo instead of the remake they've been waiting for.
Sure they are coming out with ffxiv, but this is a long term plan for next gen consoles apparently so we probably won't be seeing this for another 6 years.
On the other hand it could just be Wada messing with our heads again.

i dunno it just seems to me that a action fast paced sword fighting game would really suit them.
and god knows we need all of those we can get, since ninja gaiden is really the only one of that style.
i miss the old ps2 days where there were so many ninja styled games now theres barley any.
tenchu was one of my favorite series, id kill to see it come back.
o and medievil, im actually making a game very similar to that at tafe for my assignment.

Regarding the top talents, i think it is already there, Square's top telent is the now "exiled" legendary Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the legendary music composer and free lancer Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda. Mitsuda has composed some of the greatest game music which is the Chrono Trigger music. If Square can get back those with the existing Tetsuya Nomura, and get rid of Wada, and stop westernizing JRPGs, and bring back all the towns, full turn based system, free exploration (cough FF13, cough), a world map system etc in the RPGs. Then Square will revive and gain back the crown of being RPG king, and their first coming back is by making a new Chrono Break exclusive on the PS3. :D

I wonder if they've got some spec's on the PS4 or something? Seems like it would be hard to create and engine for it if you had no idea what it would be like.

New engine... for WHAT? So all the gamers in the world can go play something else for five years while you try to figure out where you went wrong?

"At Square Enix, in anticipation of the appearance of next generation platforms, we've started development on a new generation game engine for competing beyond the level of the strong developers throughout the world, and are presently seeking a lot of talent."
So, are SE already starting their work on their graphics engine for the console generation to come?
Kinda hoping for that FFVII remake as well, but I temper that with reality. I'll tell you though, if I were Sony, I'd get all of SE into a room and hand them a large check in return for an exclusive remake of FFVII, with an option on sequels.
