Cut Final Encounter In GoWIII Could Return As DLC

As some of you may have heard, part of the final act of God of War III had to be cut from the final production. The questions you probably have now are, "why?" and "will we ever see it as extra content?"

Well, Kotaku wanted answers to those very same questions, so they presented them to GoWIII director Stig Asmussen. He was a guest on Kotaku Talk Radio and he first mentioned that initially, the team had prepared more Titan encounters but at some point in the development process, they became "overwhelmed." In an effort to avoid any spoilers, Asmussen stated:

"There was a pretty large thing that we chopped from the ending that I had regrets about, but then something we added at the end that helps make up for it a little bit, and helps make it more personal. We had titan encounters in the game, we had a pretty big one planed for the end and we got pretty far with it it, but it was just one of those deals where we just had so much."

However, although they had to cut that content, he says they might just include it in a piece of DLC at some point in the future. And if they do decide to do that, "it would be free." And don't think for one second that SCEA opted not to include this stuff because they were lazy; it was very hard for Asmussen and Co. to do without, as he explains:

"Those things required so many resources and they're so hard to work on. It was literally the hardest thing I've ever been involved with before in my life and we just couldn't do more. We couldn't. It was to the point where we had to remove one just to invest time in the other ones that we had in the game, to get those right. We could have had more, and everything else would have suffered."

Don't worry, Stig. We doubt people will complain too much.

Irmemeber when Capcom said that Wii and PS2 couldn't even run the Resident evil 5 start screen. LOL
With Kratos on it I doubt the 350 would be able to do it. XD

Hope the DLC is free... like Burnout Paradise... Remember guys... Criterion they were the only company that gave so much DLC for free, even if they sold quite more later.

This is how it is done! Are you listening, Ubisoft (and Activision, and EA...)?

At least they are being honest about it and just saying they ran out of time/money/energy at the end instead of saying it made the game "flow" better or some BS.

I cant wait for tuesday. This is the only game in history i've actually thought about staying up to midnight to get. Then i realized i want to be awake enough to log some time in as soon as i open the disc case, so i'll be running out as soon as i have a chance tuesday.

It does go to show though, how much more can be added and how epic games of this generation (and next) will be :)

Don't you love the blu ray advantage we have over the xBots... it's becoming more and more apprent as we go along doesn't it...

No, I won't complain, cause their game will be awesome. Besides, his excuse is really good, and believable, unlike the "we can't do HD towns cause we are too lazy and too busy spending the money microsoft gave us to do FFXIII multiplat...blah...blah...blah"

This is exactly why crazy talk about the PS4 is nonsense. The time, effort and money that goes into an epic 10 hour game is already taxing on the developers. How could they be asked to triple their workload for some new gen of consoles? It won't happen any time soon.

Oh, and cut content sucks no matter who you are, but I guess they did want to get GoWIII out the door.

Agreed, we're just now "catching up" to the ps3, meaning we're just beginning to hear about multiplatform developers using it as lead platform over 360, and as they understand it more and learn to use it more effectively we'll get better and better games faster. These awesome titles are still taking 3-5 years to be true top quality games, once these guys start putting out trip A titles at the same rate as last generation they can talk about all the ps4 and xbox 720's they want.

Sometimes things you don't want to do are just plain necessary. It sucks when it happens, but we can all be glad that these guys are willing to not only make up for it, but also make it free.

Just makes me hate those money spongers that much more. Stupid activision!

Way to own up SCEA...our favorite developers can't always be perfect, we're all still human right? But at least our favorite developers have the balls to spill honest beans. I'll accept a "We're beat" response over a "It's not worth it", "It's impossible to complete", or...one of my personal favorites "Towns are too much of a hassle to construct"...SE...clench those teeth...BAM!

Well guys I just platinumed god of war 3 just this moment. (I couldn't wait so I bought it from a retailer that sells games pre release) if any of you are worried about trophies being to hard its not. I've seen the ending twice and to be honest it kind of left me confused. It seemed to rushed I hope they do release the content, mayne it'll help the ending make more sense.

I can't wait to see the new dlc cause the ending kinda sucks. I loved the game right up to the point when i saw the credits rolling and thought thats it? all that build up then game over. The new challenge is great and theres loads of extra content but I expected something a little more epic at the end...

that is how you do DLC, none of this removing 2 levels for future DLC ala assassins creed 2.
thats what DLC is all about, giving your fans a chance to play content that did not make the final release because of time constraints.

all i ask though for GOW3 is give us the fu***ng making of documentary.
my head literally exploded when they announced for absolutely no reason that they are removing it from the european limited edition.

So far in my Ps3 life I have never bought any DLC unless it's worth the money.

Let's see, you pay a full $60 for a game and then DLC after DLC comes, yea, $5 or so is cheap but what happens after 3 or 4 DLC?

My advice is that you might as well wait for the price drop if you wanna buy DLC.

And what's even worse is that later a GOTY edition comes out.

And this.....cut content from GOWIII......since they're gonna release it for free I guess there's no harm in forgiving Santa Monica but can someone tell me what was cut?

So basically there was an encounter that they wanted to do, but realized that within the already monstrous budget they could not do it, and do the rest of the game justice and they cut that encounter. Once the game is out and selling well enough to get a return on the budget invested in it, they'll spend some more money and go back to complete that encounter.

Sounds good. Can all companies please do things this way instead of designing the DLC to be included on the BluRay and unlocked via download codes? Please? Pretty please. In fact, can Sony please mandate that DLC actually be downloaded, and not simply an unlock.

In gow's case these reasons are fairly believable, especially if it turns out to be free when it actually comes out.

But really what's to stop activision's or anybodies' next blockbuster from doing the exact same thing as ACII but learn from their mistake and just make sure it's left off the disc?

If the DLC for a game is left off the disc and ultimately released as DLC I have not problem with it because then gamers know that they have to pay extra for it. So if a developer decides to short change the gamer with the 'full game' that's lacking features and content that you have to buy for extra $$, it will be crystal clear what is going on. Personally, I'd like to think that gamers and reviewers alike would punish a company that goes that route by not buying and giving poor reviews.

I hope they never stop making DLC for this game (until the next GOW game comes, anyway.) I have waited SO LONG for this game and now it's almost here and I can't bare to think of what my life will be like by the end of this week when I've already plowed through the whole damn thing and I have nothing left to look forward to. Bring on the DLC, I say!!!!

Free will be nice, it's better than playing dante's inferno and see all that content on PSN is ridiculaous that probably could of been added to the game.

GOW3 is the best looking game on the PS3. Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 both take the back seat. If you have seen or played the E3 demo, just imagine those graphics to the third power. As for full-scaled epicness, it prevails over any other game...Easy! I seriously didn't expect the game to be this AMAZING! I thought it was gonna be epic, but this is just unbelievable inconceivable to the epic^3 proportions. Well done SCEA! Oh yeah...and regarding the DLC, it's totally ok. Give me a game of this quality and I'm content.

God of War is fine unless you wanted a real callenge with trophies, finding items, leveling up weapons oh and the replay value a joke. Love the graphics, sound and button combo's but when i got to the end it was very disappointing thats a promise

insane, totally insane, the epic nes of it can hardly be described,3 minutes in game and i already think this and gt5 are the ones that gonna be fighting for goty at the end of the year...

tip though, seems a tad easy for my taste, maybe it gets harder, but for experienced players i recommend going on hard of the bat, gonna start again to do it in hard cuz i want this game to LAST for me, just feels too epic to describe lol
