Demon's Souls Manages To Sell 250,000 In US
Demon's Souls was a blessing for every hardcore role-playing fan out there and the critics loved it. But that doesn't always translate to financial success.
And it all depends on your perspective. You shouldn't expect such a game to rake in the huge sales totals of a massive multiplatform title, nor could it even compete with a giant exclusive like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. After all, we're talking about a pure, demanding RPG. But even so, the numbers for the US aren't terrible: according to a 1Up report, Atlus has managed to sell around 250,000 copies of Demon's Souls in this region. That's a damn good number, especially considering that initial shipments only numbered 15,000; good word of mouth and high critical acclaim really helped to push that stat higher over time. Evidently, Atlus is satisfied with these results as they partly attribute their 8% year-over-year rise to sales of Demon's Souls in the US. We assume From Software is working on a sequel right now and fans are hoping it won't take as long to reach North American shores. Perhaps these strong sales will result in a faster localization process the second time around; there's little doubt that a sequel will be very appreciated by RPG lovers.
Essentially, though, this represents the power of super high review scores. Had the scores been lower, you probably would be looking at a huge bomb of a game. Well, that didn't happen 'cuz Demon's Souls is great.

Aren't we all hardcore gamers?
Did Devil May Cry 3's difficulty prevent people from enjoying the crap out of it?
Or how 'bout classics like Metal Slug and many of the great Arcade/Super Nintendo/Nintendo games?
Difficulty's a great thing, it makes the experience much more rewarding.

if its too hard on easy, well than theres something seriously wrong with you!
deamon souls on the other hand is hard on easy, not exactly a forgiving game either.
it eases off on you till your down for the count, than it grabs you by the balls and never lets go.
what i like to call dirty fighting, but as the saying goes everythings fair in love and war.
but what if you cant tell the difference?
than my friend your in real trouble!
ahhh, gotta love sully!

It definitely takes some practice to get the timing right and to figure out what class is right for you. Most people tend to start as a knight which for demon's souls is kinda a bad idea. They are slow, slow, and slow. Others have less armor but move quickly and can avoid being hit altogether.
I highly recommend you give it some practice. Heck I played the tutorial with every starting class. It was probably my 6th time through before I beat the tutorial boss.
For all you awesome people, feel free to laugh, some of us take longer than others.

Once you get in the swing of things, you can run through the entire game in a couple hours (but once you know how much there is to do, a single run through is only a small part of the whole game, heh.

Truly a rare gem
It's definitely a good number, specially when combined with the Japanese sales numbers which are around 500K. So a total of about 700K+ (almost 1 million sales).
So glad it's been appreciated
This guarantees a sequel (I hear it's From Software's best selling game in a LONG time. Since the great Armored Core days)

I got a better deal on Demon's souls than any game I've ever gotten. A friend bought it and after playing it for 3 hours decided he had to have the collectors edition so he sold me his 3 hour used regular copy for the gamestop buying price of $20.
Game was worth $60 and more, I just got the best gaming deal I'll probably ever get. This game can last forever due to the leveling system. I can't wait for the second one and I hope it sells like crazy.

So if it's getting too easy, just do what you have to to beat it and it will start getting harder.

As for the difficulty, it's not that bad. Once you finish off the Demon God it's all down hill from there. I think there are two things that might frighten people: 1.) If you have a large amount of souls (in game currency) and you die, those souls will be dropped at the location of your death. If you manage to get back to that location you retrieve all your souls, however if you die, those souls are lost forever. This means you will be punished for sloppy gameplay; 2.) This game is between 45-50 hours long. (it took me roughly 47 hours). I think alot of people hear this and freak out because it is such a time suck. I like to look at it this way; you can but 45-50 hours in a great game that the dev team has put their heart and soul (no pun intended) into making and is one of a kind on todays console market. OR you can put the same amount of time into a online mulitplayer shooter that is basically just a rehash and a quick cash in by a publisher who is laughing at you while taking your money! (Glares at Modern Warfare 2; Activision and 15 dollar map packs). The choice is simple really.
