Square-Enix Announces Supplemental Comics For Nier
Nier, Square-Enix's attempt at a mature action/RPG designed to both satisfy the role-playing crowd and titillate the action aficionados, will launch on April 27. But the story will expand beyond the boundaries of the game.
Today, Square-Enix has announced a partnership with DC Comics imprint Wildstorm to create a custom comic series based around the upcoming title. We've often heard about the "twisting storyline" and unique characters in the game and if you appreciate such elements, you'll want to visit Nier's official website and download the first digital comic; or, you can simply log on to either the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live Marketplace. The comics will be available between now and the game's launch date of April 27 and they'll act as prequels to the game's story; we'll receive "tantalizing clues about key characters" and that includes the main character, Nier, and his plague-striken daughter, Yonah. We'll find out what led to the fall of humanity, how The Black Scrawl came into being, and from whence those nasty Shades came. Said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square-Enix:
"We are extremely excited to partner with the storytellers at DC Comics to further explore the complex tale of NIER; to explore its unusual characters; and, to introduce new fans to a storyline that will challenge what they know from beginning to end. NIER is a game that paints a sophisticated and graphic picture of the despair resulting from an apocalyptic plague and the triumph of a father’s will to protect his most prized possession, his daughter. DC Comics’ ability to create colorful and engaging comics will help deliver NIER’s unusual story to gamers and prepare them for what lies ahead in the game. By exploring the comics, gamers will understand the basis of Nier’s world before they even pick up a sword or cast a spell."
There will be three comics in all; each one will continue the overlapping story. Penning these virtual comics will be recognizable faces in the industry, including Emmy-winning creator and executive producer Ricardo Sanchez, Pop Mhan, who has worked with Spider-Man and Ghost Rider at Marvel Comics, Eddie Nuñez, who's working on the impending DC Universe MMO, and Carlos D'Anda, who has been involved with the likes of Deathblow, Justice League of America and Lego's Bionicle. He was also the lead Character Designer for last year's award-winning Batman: Arkham Asylum. So they've assembled quite the all-star cast for these comics, and it's clear they're very excited about the game.
Will Nier surprise everyone...?

After having played God of War 3 last night I think this title really needs to step it up quite a bit as far as the action gameplay and overall presentation.
Maybe they should throw in both versions (Gestalt & Replicant) into 1 blu ray and then more people will show interest.

Well, if you're right then I'll just bargain bin it for my collection.
HMMM, while I'm thinking about it, just as a precaution, maybe I better Saran-Wrap it & then duct-tape it twice so she can't try turning all my other games in the "M", "N", or "O" sections over to her he/she side.

@ Ben
If you think this game deserves some investigation on my part, I'll give it a look, but people seem to be ragging it pretty hard.
