If fans go to a store and can't find a PS3 to play God Of War, they probably will just wait for the PS3 to restock. It probably isn't so for Final Fantasy, people probably just get an Xbox instead. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING SONY. RESTOCK!!

Im with you Godsman. You need to take advantage of any momentum you get in the market. A lost sale now doesnt mean that you'll get it back next month. The fact that Sony is selling out probably means they didnt manufacture enough units to meet demand. They should have seen this coming and adjusted the production schedule (if indeed this is the reason behind the shortage.)

why do i have the feeling that this "shortage" is just a plan to liquidate current stock in time for new skus to come out. god of war 3 and/or final fantasy 13 bundle with a 500gb hard drive plus the return of backwards compatibility that those guys wanted so much but not enough to buy a 60gb? one can hope right.

yes, at least 1 or 2 extra. I think GoW 3 preorders were at around 400k so for GT5 the number will probably be closer to the 1 million mark, if not more. Not to say all GT5 preorders will be from people without a system but i'm sure there's a large number of gamers that have been waiting on such title to make their ps3 purchase.

I've been playing GOW3 on my newly hooked up surround sound system. If any others plan on playing it with that feature, beware. Make sure you pack some extra diapers.....you WILL soil yourself like a toddler on a steady diet of fiber.

Same for me too! I wanted to be in "game shape" for GoW3, so instead of playing 1 & 2 PS2 versions, I waited for the Collection. Finished 1 last week, near the end of 2 now...

Coincidentally, I realized that I never finished GoW2 when I got it on PS2 originally. I had started it, but between other new releases then, or I don't know what.... I never finished it! Maybe it was getting the PSP, or getting the PS3 that kept me from finishing it closer to when it released?

Either way, I'm playing it now, it's fun, it's tough in some places, and after playing through Dante's Inferno prior to starting GoW1/2 I am sure GoW3 will blow me away!

Personal anecdote: I called the local Best Buy yesterday to make sure they had God of War 3 in stock before I headed over and I was greeted by a message warning me the store did NOT have PS3s (or Wiis) in stock. Considering it's March -- no major gift-giving holidays now or around the corner -- and they can't keep these things on the shelves? That's pretty astounding. The demand surge for PS3 can't even be reflected in sales numbers because they can't make enough for store shelves.

The sceneries are amazing in this game. I have a friend that is complaining about the fixed camera because he just wants to look at everything. Parts of the game look like you are playing CG, it's that good.

It really isn't. Play the game on Titan mode and you'll see where button mashing gets you...yea nowhere. I just finished the game on Titan mode and boy what a rush. Just knowing I did that gives me chills. I didn't think I would be able to but man this game is just beyond epic. I loved every minute and for some reason the game was longer than expected. It took me 16 hours even. Did anyone else get those numbers or was it just me? It doesn't matter cause each sec was just crazy sick. The first one was my fave in the series but now I think there's a contender lol (more like a winner);) I'm not kidding when I say that I'm going to play this for years to come. It's my favorite game EVER...okay enough of the rant...sorry!

Not at all. Grace, strategy and at times tricky button/movement combinations are necessary to succeed. Like all games, if you play it on easy you can get away with all sorts of errors. But normal or higher and it takes quite a lot of skill to complete.

i got this game yesterday on my lunch break, suffered through the excruciating wait that was the rest of the work day, got home, put it in at 7pm, played straight through until 2:30am. the ONLY reason i stopped was because my wireless surround sound headphones died, and had to recharge.
GOTY in march? i think we have a candidate! it's got my vote.
...just the feeling of eviscerating GODS in the most brutal way possible...its hard to feel more badass whilst playing a game.
its not hyperbole when i say this is the best game of the generation. (sorry uncharted 2, you get a VERY CLOSE second)

as to any doubters, play the game, and tell me how you feel after the cronos fight. that is all.

Do you think Sony is regretting putting out a kick-@$$ exclusive every two months? LOL! The reason the "other system" is sitting on shelves collecting dust is because there's NO GOOD GAMES! 90% of their exclusives is some dude hunting aliens.

What's next for us? ModNation Racers in May and then SOCOM 4, Gran Turismo 5, another unannounced exclusive and possibly The Last Guardian all by year's end while the competition has what? Another Halo?

Yeah... I'd say it's an easy call for what the number one system this generation is going to be. Now lets just hope they get on those stock shortages!

Xbox360 outsold the PS3 last month and if it does again this month with such great exclusives its going to be a slap in the face for Sony...
I mean with Heavy Rain (going for my fourth run and loving it) and God of War 3 coming out they should have planed better. Shame on you Sony!
This could have been the year Sony put a final nail on the Xbox coffin, now its likely to finish still in second place to it...

The fact that he 360 can still outsell the PS3 in the US is sad, but not entirely unexpected. Whether you consider the supply problems of the PS3, or the fact that more than 50% of 360 sales are Arcade systems which isn't entirely comparable to the PS3, or the fact that the PS3 is outselling the 360 Globally (and has been for months). The fact remains that in the US MS still has a lot of loyalty from customers, many of who are on their second, third or even fourth unit and still remain loyal.

Don't change the fact that they got outsold when demand for their product is so much higher than the competition. That is poor planing, no other way around it.
They have been having supply issues since the Holiday season and I believe going into 2010 with two such huge titles coming up in the beginning of the year and not being ready for it was pure incompetence on their part.
I don't care that the X360 is a crappy console, that the arcade version is 100 dollars cheaper, that people are still buying replacement consoles, and so on and so forth... What I care about is that even with all those reasons why MS can sell more, Sony could have smoked them these past two months and didn't.
How can you release two system sellers within 30 days of each other and not have any systems to sell??
Shame on you my beloved Sony!

I agree with you Karosso, this supply shortage is definitely a big problem for Sony. With both major exclusives coming out so close to each other, they should have foreseen this supply shortages since December. They should've ramped up production way back in December to anticipate this. I believe there may be some production problems of the PS3. One of the fellow psx reader said that there could be a problem in acquiring some of the components in the PS3, therefore production comes to a halt.
I mean do you guys happen to realize why Sony doesnt even bundle the PS3 with these two major exclusive. Based on past history, almost every major franchise game has a bundle with the PS3, for example, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, NFS:shift, hell even tekken has a bundle. So why the hell Sony doesnt even bundle Heavy rain or God of War III with a Ps3?

So there must be a big problem going on inside Sony on why they couldnt produce enough PS3. Most likely it could be a production problem. I mean Sony has so many brains in the organisation, I am sure Sony Executives know that Heavy Rain and especially GOW III are gonna be huge system sellers. The reason them not supplying enough PS3 has got to be a problem in production.

Jack Tretton acknowledged that there was indeed a shortage of PS3s and he said Sony is working on that problem, but Jack's statement is probably like 1 month ago, so if the PS3 has no production problems, then we should have seen more stocks of PS3s but the problem is that retail shops have been out of stock since Jack made that statement means theres no stock coming in at all.

Sony needs to fix this problem ASAP. It used to be a good problem that supply is running low because of high demand, but its really is A BIG problem if supply continues to extinguish while demand is still high, the shareholders are not gonna be happy about it, and Sony will miss their targeted 13million ps3 in this fiscal year, not to mention the fiscal year ends 31st march. Boy, thats a problem for Sony. Who would have thought that the reason they couldnt reach the 13million mark was actually their fault?

The thing people don't see is that, when releasing a console, you have to make predictions of its sales and go but production based on it. Who in their right mind would think PS3 sales would skyrocket to freakin 1000%?! I'm sure as hell Sony didn't. From september to now those things have been flying. And Naughty Dog didn't help either by putting out such a masterpiece that can be argubly be called one of the best games ever. "Damn you Naughty Dog, you and your stunning visuals, your mind blowing gameplay, your perfect audio and mechanics. Damn you all!"- Aaron Greenburg. XD jk.

But yea then came Heavy Rain. Such a piece that confuses the mind to think wether your playing a game or watching a movie. Pushed even more units off the rack.

Then there came Santa Monica. Those evil bastards that forced many of us to go down to our local Gamestop and pull out $60 for that, that, that God of a Game!(Pun... INTENDED!). The stunning art that made me drop my dualshock countless times because I was distacted by the in game gfx.

But it doesn't stop there. Yea I'm watching you Polyphony. You're after us too. Your not getting my wallet like the rest of these bastards did!

Of course they will, but back to the point, also take note that Sony may have altered production so the
Slim and Lite PS3(Patent it!) Can be produced. Hopefully things get back on track. So many gamers suffering and resorting to the Traffic Light console.

Even sonystyle show the systems as backordered and not shipping until April 1. I saw a couple the other day but the stores that used to have an online "Check Local Availability" feature have since taken that feature off and started selling gamer "bundles". Anything to make a dollar on the shortages, eh?

I finished god of war 3 last night. i am so disappointed (not in the game, just that its over) i could have played it for 100 hours straight if they would have let me. Did anyone else hear the 1 small reference to kratos' brother? i really wish there were more titan battles. i just cant get enough!! SO EPIC!!!!!!!!

it took me 2hours to call and look at all the instore pick ups by typing in zip codes from around my city and target had ONE 250GB model that i told them to hold for me cause i had to drive 55+miles to get it!!! my tip for someone whos looking for one.... try all the stores online for the instore pickup option and it will prompt a zip code enter zip codes around ur city and plan a road trip... gow 3 is worth it.... target....sears....bestbuy....walmart.... kmart....toys r us... bestbuy had quite a few in the oakland/pleasanton area in california (1month ago) hope this helps!!!

The Target near my house had 3 120GBs in the case(Florissant, MO for those in that area) doubt they had any in the back. Had 4 PSPs, 2 3k's, 2 Go's, don't want to say how much traffic lights were in stock... I must say this is a real negative/positive event, hopefully it gets fixed.

I finally picked up GoWIII last night and just beat the Hades fight like a few hours ago...EPIC BOSS BATTLE! It was almost like big Kratos fighting small Kratos! Totally looking forward to the rest of the game!

As for PS3's, I work at Sam's Club electronics department and we had like 10 PS3s to start off Febuary and going into March, we had 0. Not that big of a deal anywhere else, but for a store that only sells systems during the holidays, that's not bad!

My thought is that they are sending most of the consoles across the pond because the euro is worth more than our once almighty dollar. Its business and I understand that what ever makes the most money is logical, but dang I would think it would sell more units in the U.S., but this is merely speculation, since I will be the first to admit I don't know much about how many consoles have sold over there as opposed to the States.

Side note.

I am a little jealous of all those who aleady have the game. I am on the 4 games out plan with Gamefly and it shipped on the 16th but it always takes 2 days to get to me, so it should be in the mail when I get home. I am a DIE hard GOW fan, but at my age of 30, I can't see spending $60 or more for ANY game ever again. Besides if I want to keep it from GF it is only 44.99 plus tax and no shipping so I don't mind waiting 1 extra day to save $20 on a brand new game.

For everyone looking for a Slim PS3... the Canadian Amazon Web site has both the 120GB and 250GB units in stock. I'm sure they'll ship to the US, too, since I'm able to buy stuff from the US Amazon store and I live in Canada. Just a heads up!

If you live near a Fry's Electronics, they usually have them in stock. Amazon and Newegg are out of stock. If you are in desperate need of a PS3, you can always find one on craigslist (watch out for scammers).

I don't remember the PS2 having this problem mid-cycle. I guess Sony underestimated their own console (probably wouldn't have been so quick to drop the price to $299 if they could have seen the future). I think a lot of people would have been willing to pay $399 to play GoWIII, GT5 and now Heavy Rain.

I always play games on normal before I move on to tougher settings.

I don't really know if there's a trophy for that to be honest, but I've done it with I, II and CoO after I completed the game, and this time I decided to start early and go straight into hard setting with no weapon & magic upgrades to challenge myself. I want to be difficult, I don't want to feel too easy like many people are suggesting but with hard setting and no upgrades, it has become pretty tough lol

there is nothing i despise more than paying 60 bucks , playing an awsome game and just when im enjoying it to its fullest i realize im an hour away from beating it and i got it a week ago....

with good games? i wnat to savor every bit of pixelated candy that they can produce, i want it to last for me, so i usually go hard right of the bat just to make em last longer, depends on the game though....sigma 1 and 2 on hard...hmmmm HELLL NO , its hard enough as it is lol

I have a sneaking suspicion that this ps3 console shortage may be a marketing ploy. If the shortage gets bad enough, for long enough major news groups will begin to pick up on it.

I hope this is what they are doing because it would be brilliant. If the ps3 shortage starts being broadcast on general news sites and not just gaming sites it could very well cause even more interest in the ps3, especially among casual gamers or people looking for a media device.

The shortage could cause non-hardcore gamers to realize the potential that the ps3 has for things other than gaming. Causing a swell in desire from no gamers.

Sony could simply be causing this shortage, simply to give them time to build up surplus, so that when suddenly everyone has a ps3 in stock, people will make a mad rush to there local electronics store of choice to purchase a ps3 and no one will be left wanting.

I hope this is so, because after trailing only slightly behind the 360 in the us for a few months, it would be awesome to see it have a month where it sales double the amount the 360 does.

Traded some multipats in today and picked up God of War III and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Played a couple of hours of GOWIII and it's good but it hasn't gripped me yet. All this hype has left me a little flat with the final product. I'm not sure what I was expecting!
The graphics are amazing though.

After Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain, I am going to try and concentrate on the PS3 exclusives for a while.

I just got a mail from the store I pre-ordered my GoW III copy, of which I should've gotten the special edition for free, since I pre-ordered. I cite: Unfortunately the news has reached us that our supplier lost the shipment of special editions, there for you will recieve the regular edition, we are very sorry and you will recieve a voucher with the downloadable content next week. You will still recieve your copy of the game at the set date.

Sigh... there goes my special edition... well at least I'll still have the game, and that's the most important thing.

For the one person who suggested that Americans buy their PlayStation 3 off Amazon.ca, apparently you never read the International Shipping Help section, Amazon.ca can only ship books, CDs, DVDs, and VHS videos anywhere outside Canada, electronics can't be shipped to any address outside Canada.

That being said, I can't wait for my copy to hit my mailbox, then it will sit around till I finish the first two games, I've been too busy playing Red Faction: Guerrilla and BioShock 2 to get to them.

Well, how about my predicament? My PS3 gave me the yellow light Tuesday of last week. It a March 2007 Manufactured 60GB PS3, which makes it worse. Now the PS3 systems are hard to come by. I usually don't get money to buy things like game consoles, but now I have the money, my PS3 dies, and I can't buy one. It sucks so much, I had just got Heavy Rain. >_<

wow, sony is the black beast!!! in this year alone they have sold more ps3's than the first 2 years of xboxes i think, and add to that the fact that A LOT of xboxers have bought more than one console on their time playing it...

goes to show that numbers dont mean squat if they are not profit, 35 mill ps3s vs 40 mill xboxs , a quarter of at least are people rebuying new consoles

PS: im playng the ghetto gow 2 on the ps2 with composite cables , it does look pretty decent , grainy of course on a 32 inch tv but very much playable, ill probably upgrade them at some point to the ps3 versions but right now...meh, whats the point lol

I used to have a PS3 until about a month ago when my house was broken into and my 60GB PS3 among other things was taken. Now that I am ready to get the system again I can't find it. I live in Chicago and most stores are sold out. What the heck Sony.
