Heavy Rain Patch Available, Should Fix All Problems
It's one of the most impressive games of the generation...but it's hard to go along for the emotional ride if the game keeps freezing on you.
While it didn't appear to be a massively widespread problem, many did complain of crashing and freezing issues when trying to play Heavy Rain. Well, Sony and Quantic Dream have heeded your cries of, "fix it, please!" and provided you with update 1.02, which should fix any and all issues. It's a 38MB download and won't take you long to grab, so pop in your disc and snag the update so as to avoid any future problems or bugs. We also turn your attention to a recent Industry Gamers interview with Quantic Dream boss David Cage, where he is obviously happy with the success of Heavy Rain. "It's way above my expectations in my craziest dreams, to be honest with you," he said. As of now, he notes that 373 total reviews have scored the game at 9 or above, and according to a Sony study, the game holds a 90-95% "satisfaction rating" with consumers. He adds that sales "definitely exceeded what we expected," which is great news, because we were a little worried about that... No need for concern now.
The game has done very well overall and that's just plain awesome. If more games take a cue or two from Heavy Rain, the industry will be much, much better off.

A shame for anybody's experience with this fantastic title to be hindered by technical issues.
Oh, and speaking of 'Heavy Rain's phenomenal success, I believe it has, in a mere three weeks, surpassed 'Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy's (which was released not only on the PS2, but PC and Xbox as well) lifetime worldwide sales. Kudos to Quantic Dream!

The screen tearing issue can be resolved to some extent, however, it some cases it does not matter how much you try to "optimise" code, the actual bandwidth of the machine is reached... in theory the PS3 can only push so many polygons... when you get to peak you will get a drop in frame rate and you will get, in some instances, screen tearing anomalies... the hardware tries to maintain a steady refresh rate but unfortunately, under heavy load, it is not always possible.
I also don't buy the argument about the 60fps and 30fps issue. For a smooth image the human eye needs a minimum of 25fps. Anything above this is good enough for me. If you want the "film look", you can drop it down to 24fps, otherwise 25fps and above is good enough technically to maintain a steady visual flow and to "minimise" screen tearing anomalies...

BTW, the story, for anyone reading who is not convinced... HOLY CRAP!!! The constant changing script, the twists, the on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspension and intense moments!!!!
All of it was freakin incredible!!! And now with no glitches or freezes, the game has no reason NOT to do well.
One giant HUZZAH to Quantic Dream and their masterpiece..
