FFVII, FFVIII Top Two Downloaded Games For PSP

Who says a remake of Final Fantasy VII wouldn't be gigantic? Who says new gamers aren't interested in old-school RPGs?

Well, apparently, PSP owners are all about the old gems from great studios like Squaresoft. If you check out the latest episode of Pulse - now available to download on the PlayStation Network - they reveal the top 10 downloaded games for the PSP in 2010 thus far. And look what sits up at numbers one and two; Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, two of the greatest RPGs in history and certainly two of the best overall games in history. Here's the top 10 list as we near the end of March:

  • 1. Final Fantasy VII (PSP/PS3)
  • 2. Final Fantasy VIII (PSP/PS3)
  • 3. Tetris
  • 4. God of War: Chains of Olympus
  • 5. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
  • 6. LittleBigPlanet
  • 7. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
  • 8. Madden NFL 10
  • 9. Gran Turismo
  • 10. Resident Evil 2 (PSP/PS3)

Of course, you can play both of the top two games on either the PS3 or the PSP but the point is, enthusiasm for those old-fashioned titles clearly hasn't waned too much. Even Tetris, which currently sports a much-too-high $10 price tag, has been downloaded plenty. The reality of the situation is that people have not forgotten the greats from yesteryear so if Square-Enix thinks they wouldn't get a return on their admittedly big investment with a FFVII remake...well, I just point to when they asked about the idea at their Twitter page, and everyone went nuts.

I've bought both.

I started to play FFVII again and just couldn't put it down.

Funnily enough my favourite PSP games would be:

3. Gran Turismo

Got both on my PS3 and PSP as well.

FF VII still remains my all time favourite RPG, next to Mass Effect series, but they're more action shooter with RPG elements than RPG alone.

Playing God of War when I get the chance and Perfect Dark on XBLA. I love that game, best N64 game for its time.

I hardly buy downloads because:

1. I don't have the spare time to waste on little time-wasting puzzle games.

2. Very few downloads compare to the epic size and scope of full disc and blu-ray titles, like God of War 3, Uncharted 2 and MGS 4.

Perfect Dark and Sonic 4 are my only favourite games I want to download. The rest I buy on disc.

I love looking at my big game collection sitting on my shelf.

I cant get into mass effect, i just hate driving that car thingy, really gets on my nerves, stopped playing it now, now playing FFXIII.

I believe driving the car is an integral part of the game???

Bioware got rid of the car missions and vastly improved combat in Mass Effect 2. Scanning for resources on planets can be a bit boring though.

But the whole dialogue tree, the story, the character relations, etc. are all fantastic in the Mass Effect series, and are integral parts of a good RPG.

Even FF VII had dialogue paths, not quite as expanded as Mass Effect, but it was there on occassions.

I'm glad they got rid of those car missions, but I got so fed up with them in ME1 that I gave up playing it. It's an integral part of the game for the first one.
