Rumor: Third F.E.A.R. To Be Revealed Next Month

Sometimes, the best scoops come from overseas, when certain things leak out ahead of time.

It started with a NeoGAF poster and the apparent finding of a big ol' ad for the third installment in the critically acclaimed F.E.A.R. series. It comes from a Spanish gaming publication; "F.3.A.R." should be featured in it next month, and as GameSpot dove into the issue, we find that it may not be bogus. After Activision axed many of Vivendi's projects back in the 2008 merger, Monolith Entertainment snapped up the rights to F.E.A.R., which eventually allowed F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin to hit store shelves not much later. The scan of the magazine shows what might be the protagonist, that freaky girl Alma, who - and this is even freakier - appears to be pregnant. Then there are two men and rumors persist as to who they might be, but GameSpot thinks the long-haired guy could be a member of the First Encounter Assault Recon team, and the other could be original antagonist Paxton Fettel. As for the backdrop, there's obviously something vicious going on; it looks like some sort of nuclear holocaust.

I think they just wanted to get to the third installment so they could cleverly replace the "E" with a "3." It's proper incentive, right?

Haven't played this series but always thought about picking it up on the cheap. Anybody recommend?

i actually liked the first one a lot, the story is something thats not been done , and they make use of creepy stuff to keep you on your toes,
2nd ones was scarier, but also shorter imo, but a bit more epic because of...well, just realized dont wanna spoil anything for anyone that hastn played it

my recomendation is yes, if you can pick up one and two cheap go for it, they are good games, not awsome , but good that if i bought the 2nd one aat full price and im telling you to buy it, means i didnt feel ripped off, so if youc an find em cheap, go for it!

thanks, I always have a few "in case I run out of games" ideas in the back of my head. But now that Winter is over I dunno how useful that list will be.

I picked the first F.E.A.R up cheap for $10 and I was pretty dubious to begin with. The graphics are decidely PS2 quality and the cutscenes sound and look awful.

But, the firefights are excellent. The enemy can spot you by the light of your flashlight. You can hear them communicating on their radios trying to work out how to flank you. If you shoot one in the leg he yells and limps away to hide in a corner somewhere.
And the best thing, no spawning!

There is smoke and debris everywhere and you can slow down time for a while and pick them off one by one. You are always badly outnumbered and outgunned so you need to use this wisely.

So for all the bad graphics it has a certain charm that I didn't even feel in MW2 or Bad Company. Something about being close to the action.

Pretty old school but worth a shot if you can pick it up cheap.

Bought it for $10, played it for 8 hours and traded it in for $6. Not bad value for money.

first one definitely, but second one wait till its cheap.
the first one was one of the best games ive ever played, scary as hell!
the second one was nothing but a shooter fest, kinda like a stephen stalone movie!
fear 2 screams rambo!!!!!!!!!!!
a perfect example of fans screwing up a series, fans complained that fear was too linear so they opened up fear 2 and it destroyed the series!

id suggest if your only looking for one game get condemned 2 bloodshot that was such a spooky brilliant game!
if you can get 2 than get that and the original F.E.A.R cant go wrong with that combination, 2 of the best horror games out there!

Just make sure multiplayer is not a driving point for buying the game.

First FEAR lacks voice chat. Second FEAR lacks the ability to play with your friends. Also, being how lame the multiplayer was and how old the game is, don't expect to find any online matches.

I have to agree with most here that FEAR 1 was much better than 2.

I don't know who those two guys are either but I'll tell you one thing. Neither one is the daddy.

I also see a zombie with a bullet hole in his head, and what looks to be some kind of fiery demon devouring up the city.

And that's certainly not Rosemary's Baby
(you older guys should get that one), LOL

I enjoyed the first FEAR and the expansions but I never got around to finishing FEAR 2. Maybe I'll buy it used somewhere and finally finish it.

Am playing through the second one atm, really liked the first one, second one is turning out good as well. Both worth a play, especially as they can be picked up quite cheap.

Like the atmosphere the game engine gives, this is one to play in the dark with the lights out, great to give yourself a few scares.

F.E.A.R 2 was THE biggest disappointment of 2009!
honestly i had such high hopes for it, the first one i absolutely loved to death it was so fu**ing creepy i could not play it at night with the lights off and sound up.
sadly i cant say the same about F.E.A.R 2, it was just a mindless shooter, reminds me of rambo.

F.E.A.R 2 is the perfect example of fans screwing up a series, they complained that F.E.A.R was to linear and you are always in the office building, you never leave there.
so monolith changed it and in doing so made it more open world.
how can you have a horror game in such a large area?
horror games need to be in dark confined spaces, not in freaking grand theft auto land!

I wouldn't say biggest disappointment, but definitely a candidate for biggest. The single player was mediocre. If I remember correctly I was very upset with the terrible save system. It used an autosave system and you never knew when it was coming. Maybe that was a different game.

As for the multiplayer... crap. Nice of them to include voice chat this time round on PS3, but who cares about that when I can't play with my PSN friends.
