PSXE Poll Update: GoWIII Lives Up To Its Massive Hype

When there's as much hype surrounding a game like God of War III, it may seem almost impossible for the title in question to reach such lofty anticipated levels.

But as far as most of our readers are concerned, the most recent Kratos masterpiece does indeed live up to the massive amount of accumulated hype; the majority even say it's one of the best games they've ever played. That's hardly a huge surprise, though, considering the super high review scores and overwhelmingly positive response from the public. There's little doubt that this one solidifies the franchise's place in history and in truth, we could be looking at the greatest video game trilogy of all time. There's almost nothing wrong with the third game - despite a few minor platforming issues - and the level of visceral entertainment, provided by brutal insanity and nearly perfectly honed controls, is exceedingly impressive. Prior to this poll, we asked to name the one game that has the best shot of winning Game of the Year in 2010, and the majority went with GoWIII. You weren't prophetic; y'all just knew the game would indeed be that good, and there wasn't much argument surrounding the fact.

Now, after a totally insane first quarter, we finally face a bit of a break. April doesn't have the star power of March and even the potential blockbuster for late-April, Red Dead Redemption, has been pushed into May. So you might have some time to catch up on your backlog of games; our question is, what gem from 2009 do you regret missing? Which one will be tops on your "catch-up list?" We'll do bad things to you if you haven't played Uncharted 2 yet... Fair warning.

Anyone out there that hasn't played Uncharted2 yet?

I did the unthinkable and chose to pop in JustCause2 before finishing XIII. What I was thinking might be a 10min break turned into 2hrs a little bit ago. It's amazing, it is such a fun game and I can't imagine anyone getting bored or running out of ideas. I put it back in its case and I'm going to finish XIII before I play JC2 again. I can't wait though!

the lack of self control I have brought my car into the Gamestop parking lot after work on Saturday. Unfortunately.... They were closed :(.

I played the demo again when I got home and it made me want it even more.

I missed Demon Souls because it didnt come out in Australia, so would definately give that one a try if it ever comes down under (Rock Band 2 anyone?)

Loved Killzone 2 and Assassins Creed II but hated Batman for some reason.

I've just bought Metal Gear Solid 4 so after another playthrough of GOWIII and maybe a quick playthrough of Heavy Rain I'll be that universe for a while.

Then maybe another playthrough of Uncharted 2.

How can you get bored of those classics?

You guys shouldn't procrastinate on MGS4 any longer than you have already! It's the greatest movie/game ever made for a reason, after I played MGS4 I was really let down with the quality of games, I knew that awesome sh** could be done but it wasn't being done, but that was years ago, it's all water under the bridge now.

well Stealth games aren't my thing but everyone was so crazy about it so I had to add it to the collection, did a level or two, the graphics are sick but it hasn't grabbed me at all so it waits.

I only really played MGS2 and I don't remember much about it at all except for wondering why I was wondering around as a naked Raiden. I guess that is one of the reason why I haven't been tempted to put it in, because I'm not very familiar with the complete story.

I got to admit, I haven't got U2 yet, but plan too, so I voted for it.

BTW, just playing U1 now, but I've been frigging stuck for 3 hours on chapter 12, trying to get the jet-ski up the rapids.

Either I shot a couple explosive barrels thereby getting shot & die too fast, or while shooting the bad guys, the current pushes me into a damn barrel.
(I think a couple of those guys must have found themselves a frigging "1-shot, 1-kill" cheat code) LOL

Not sure what difficulty level you are playing at but I found you shoot the barrels first, then shoot the guys with the rocket launchers second and any other pirates third.

There's no time limit either BikerSaint. Take your time and shoot the guys from a distance. The jet-ski doesn't move much while zoomed in to shoot either so take advantage of that.

The Official PlayStation Magazine in the US listed that level as one of the "Top Ten Worst Water Levels Of All Time".

It's somewhat frustrating, but quite doable.

I have yet to purchase my copy of GOWIII because of all those backlogged games! The best I can do on this poll is Flower because if it is on there and I haven't played it, I don't really have any interest in doing so any time soon.

I own all of those games except 'Street Fighter IV', and it's not really my type of game, so I don't know how to vote.

Personally, I think far too many people missed out on 'Demon's Souls' and 'Flower' (well, I don't know exactly how many people actually bought 'Flower', but it doesn't seem like enough).

If a challenge is what you want, Demon's Souls gives you that, and more...

It truly is an experience which "scars you" or embeds itself in you. Really deep game.

I missed out on Ratchet and Clank. I think I was too busy with Uncharted 2 or trophy hunting in Demon's Souls. Looking at that list makes me realize how great 09 was and hopefully this year tops it.

you should really get A Crack in Time sometime though. Its a great game, even if a little easy. Its almost as good as Up Your Arsenal, imo.

I completely agree. Theres only a few good platforming games left, and with Insomniac mentioning they might take a break from R&C...

I dont care if it looks like a cartoon or a little kids game. Its fun. Plain, simple, innocent fun. Remember when games used to be fun? Yeah, thats what R&C is all about.

GoWIII is out of this world fantastic.

Dragon Age was off to a great start late 2009 but then MW2 and UC2 came along... haven't gone back to DAO... I regret that and will definitely be back to it soon. Just have to go through FFXIII first.

Well I own 6 of those 10 games already ( R&C was way too kiddie for me), so not much of a choice. 2 of those games I don't even want to play or have tried and not liked so....

Out of Dragon Age: Origins and Street Fighter IV, I'd have to pick SF. Just because DA didn't appeal to me much and been a fan of SF since I was a kid. Then again there's Super Street Fighter IV coming out this year so I guess I won't be missing it after all :P.

The game I missed was killzone 2. I bought it recently but I just cannot get into it. I really want to though it just seems too much like other fps games. I don't play online so that part doesn't appeal to me. Does it get better?

I just got the game and I'm several levels in. I still can't believe how good the graphics are. This game just looks unbelievable. The Eurogamer website has a feature that details the tech behind the game-supposedly information that's unlocked after finishing it.

God of War III totally lives up to the hype. I've play so many times not even funny. First with No Weapon Upgrade Runs for both Titan and Chaos mode, and then I tried again with Chaos mode but with upgrades just too see how much faster I can complete it. I am working on Chaos mode NUR+ with Fear Kratos skin right now, gonna be a tough one. Regarding the poll, lets see

im pretty much up to speed with all my games.
all i need to do is finish GOW3 im upto the lavarinth than ill have my plat, than i need 2 more endings i think it was for heavy rain and theres another plat.
than im all up to speed once just cause 2 decides to come out.

On a side note about GoW: Santa Monica should consider doing a similar project, but instead of Greek Mythos, they can do Beowulf. Imagine the bloodfest :)

Okay well I just have to say that I finally got my copy of GOWIII this weekend.... And OMFG what an awesome experience.

I am totally blown away by it and it is simply amazing. I have 1 or 2 small issues with it but nothing hectic but other than that it's perfect in my opinion.

But I have to say that it is a close contest between GOWIII and Uncharted 2.... I love both games equally so I won't be able to say which one is best but damn man we are so lucky to have games like these in our court.

I mean fanboyism aside.... After the last 3 games that we received as exclusives (Uncharted2, Heavy Rain, GOWIII) I just can not for the life of me understand why any true gamer out there would not own a PS3 by now. I mean really...

On the other hand I also received Assassin's Creed II yesterday so I will be getting into that as soon as I am done with GOWIII.

Then as soon as I can find a copy of Heavy Rain in stock somewhere it will be mine...

I saw gowIII being played on an LED tv on saturday night and found it really hard to watch it because there is just so much detail to digest... it's just nuts. But when i see video of it through analog broadcast i dont mind looking at it cos its low def.

It looks like I need to upgrade my brains GPU before I go get an LED TV and GOWIII. Oh yeah, and how the hell am i gonna compute 3d HD LED detail! Defo gonna have to stay away from the formula one in gt5 whilst playing in 3d mode on an led tv.

I dont regret not playing the games in that list because I know I can still buy them :) I regret not getting ICO when it first came out... if only i wasnt 12 and a bit more mature then.

Ok i got the platium trophy in God of war 3 and for those of you havent it comes up with a web site SPARTANSSTANDTALL.com,There is a gauge there that i think it is filling up the more people get that platium trophy and the thunder storm is getting stronger.....Work that one out!!!

I agree with Heroes. I preordered my copy a few weeks ago. I don't care if it is a Zelda clone. Who didn't love the gameplay of Zelda back in the day? All the homages to other games in the loading screens is just a plus.

I'm playing RE5 for like the 8th time, go the infinite ammo for the L HAWK gun, big bad guys are going down with just 5 shots, so I'm trying to beat it on the Professional difficulty.

Do bad things to me - I haven't got Uncharted 2 yet lol. All I do is play Need For Speed Shift every night, trying to get my platinum. After that I've got a rather huge backlog of games, and I just bought Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena (and you also get Escape from Butcher Bay) used in like new condition for $12.

I'm happy to wait for all the latest and greatest games to come down in price a bit. They'll still be just as fun when I eventually get around to them.

I'm like you,
Since I'm a collector, I'll wait till some great used price drops to get mine, or for new games, I'll wait for both, a price drop, with a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" deal at the same time too.

And since I'm still buying older games(especially the old PS2, and xbox games) to add to my collections, I've got a huge backlog of over 1200+ games I've stillgot to play catch-up with.

On the PS3, I've bought inFamous, Killzone 2, & R2, but haven't had to time to play them yet(still playing Uncharted 1 & Prototype).

And, sometimes when I get stuck in a game for way too long, I'll just walk away from it for months & come back to it later with some fresh new ideas to get out myself of that spot.

***MGS4 SPOILER ALERT*****

(I still need to go back to MGS 4 again, cause it was one of those I walked away from. I spent 5 hours over 3 days just trying to put the knockout needle into Vamp in the 4th(or 5th?) chapter. So I guess it's about time I go back in & try to give MGS4 another shot(pun intended).

I still want to get these PS3 games too, & U2 is a "Must Have" game for me, but since the rest of them aren't on my "must have first" list, I'm still waiting for the next big used price drop, & a B2-G1F deal at the same time.....

I'm hackin my way through GOWIII right now, and it's no doubt worthy of all the praise it's getting. This game IS epic squared ;) I have to admit though, I've died A LOT of times so far... and only once at the hands of an enemy. I tend to try and search around a lot for those upgrade chests though.

If I had to pick one I'd say Batman. The demo was really good, and I'll get it eventually... so many games to play, so little time to play'em.

well after i finish gow, i will probably get into WKC more again for a while, might do another playthrough of uncharted 2 , or i might finish that infamous trophy hunt ( *shakes fist at stunt list*) i was doing, or start it in evil since i never did

ohter than that i got valkyria chronicles , but i play that one sporadically its easy to catch up ont he story after long whiles of not playing it, havent finished it yet, @ chapter 11 i believe..then of course i havent even bought JC2 or heavy rain yet so thats even more games to play.....oh gawd, i need vacations...
