Rumor: Multiplayer Mode Coming To God Of War III

These days, if a game doesn't feature an online multiplayer feature of some kind, most gamers think it's missing something.

But when it comes to the elite single-player experiences available, does it really matter? God of War III is easily one of the best games of the generation - and indeed, one of the best action titles of all time - and it requires nothing in the way of multiplayer modes. However, the same can be said for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves but Naughty Dog gave in to the massive demand and provided us with an online multiplayer mode (and a good one, too). Therefore, perhaps SCEA Santa Monica has already decided to do the same for Kratos' latest brutal adventure. If you check this thread in the GameTrailers forums, you'll see an apparent magazine scan from a European magazine, clearly depicting the addition of multiplayer battling via DLC. Now, we haven't heard anything about the upcoming DLC just yet but perhaps it makes perfect sense. The only question might be, "is such a feature even necessary?"

We'll leave that up to the fans. For now, it seems that multiplayer may indeed come to the God of War series, although we have no further rumored details just yet.

Isn't this a shot from Soul Caliber? Anyways, if they really do decide to implement it, better if they do it ala-Uncharted 2 but with fixed camera. And its a free for all. Imagine the blood... Bwahahahaha!!!

I think multiplayer for this game would be a lot better as co-op than a versus mode. A co-op mode could have a few extra hard bosses that would be very hard to defeat with only one person. Having 3-5 Kratoses fighting something like the Hydra would be pretty amazing. =)

Eh, I can see where multiplayer could be needed in a game like Uncharted, but not God of War.

This could be true after all that spartsstandtall.com talk. I was surprised to see the url by my platinum trophy when I got it. Hopefully they reveal something soon. Maybe they'll release that ending that they had to take out do to time and what not. Also there's rumors that this might be a dlc that adds more to the story. Don't think this is required but I recall rumors of it before the release. They could always copy Dante's Inferno and put in a mode that lets you and another character take on character created levels with waves of enemies and such. Maybe they could finish the ending of the game while they are at it.

I heard but cant cite anything, that the ending in GOW3 was an alternate ending and the real ending involved the titans and will be released later. I heard the reason for this was time. So instead of the big epic scale of this other ending they put the ending we seen in. At the time of release of the game this "other" ending was 90% done and since they were so far along they wanted to get it done and release it. Who knows if thats true, but i think thats more likely than GOW3 MP to be honest! As you can tell thats how not thrilled i am about MP in GOW3 honestly i dont need it nor want it!

uncharted,uncharted,uncharted(sigh)...naughty dog sure did mutilate it with all those updates.I used to love it.Took a small break from it and came back to some completely different.

It was like waking up in bed next to the most beautiful women in the world,leaving for work and coming back to kirstie alley.

This series has never needed a multiplayer option. Now if one player could control the enemies throughout the game, then yeah I'd try that out.

I hope multi-player is not introduced for God Of War III. A co-op mode though would be welcomed by most players I think.

GoW multiplayer is completely gratuitous and imbecilic. As Robochic stated above: GoW and multiplayer are not compatible. Multiplayer is a fad. Did Bioshock 2 need multiplayer? No. Does GoW need multiplayer? NO. What's next, Final Fantasy XIII team deathmatch DLC?

No....No......No..... GOWIII doesn't need multiplayer at all. Some games are meant to be single player campaigns only... Like GOW...

i only received my GOWIII copy this weekend so I have reached the end yet but I also heard there is an alternative ending and that SM studios said they will at some point definitely put it up as DLC and that it will be free as well. Is that true?

Anyway no multiplayer for GOW is needed.

the only thing GOW needs is david back.
the series just does not feel the same since he left, the level design and layout just feels so repetitive.
like in GOW3 they had to remove the ability to restart the game once completed with your upgraded weapons because if you had the cestus from the start you could finish the game in like a hour.
now that is extremely poor level design.
i cant help but feel that the titans destroyed this game.
they focused so much on size and scale they forgot the small parts, the important bits that make up the game.
having a wow factor is pointless and useless if the gameplay is repetitive and boring.
the original GOW will always be the king of action games, i only wish david would go back to SA so GOW4 could be more like gOW and less like GOW3.

i hated the whip because it flings your enemies and you in the air too often.
blades of exile are by far the best though like the other 2 games.
i wish they would bring back the purple sword from GOW1 that was my favorite weapon, it was so useful cool and i dunno but for some reason i really liked using it.
thats one thing i hope they add for DLC that as a weapon and maybe 1 or 2 new ones and please bring back the level shown off when the game was announced.
i was dying to play that throughout the whole game than was so disappointed when i finished and it was not there, that must be the titan level stig was talking about hope they put it back along with the deleted ending.

I call BS, first of all, it doesn't need it, 2nd, how do they want to do that with fixed camera. Free camera would make it move away from the gow likeness, so no.

Game developers are constantly try to keep people playing their game. There is a lot of competition out there so they want to provide a game you cam play for more than 10-15 hours. Will be interesting what they give us for a hack and slash single player game

Man goes on lone rampage to take vengeance on the gods and suddenly it's multiplayer? Sorry this game doesn't work as co-op or versus. They'll probably do it tho, for all those people who can't live without a multiplayer option in a game.
