Activision Reveals New Spider-Man
The web-slinging hero has been involved in some decent titles already, but we're hoping for a truly outstanding production from Beenox and Activision.
Activision has announced the newest Spidey entry, which will be known as Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Slated to launch in September 2010, players will traverse four different worlds from four distinct universes in Marvel lore, two of which will be The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man Noir. We'll be looking at diverse gameplay and "dramatic environments;" The Amazing Spider-Man boasts innovative web-based fighting and also "pays tribute to the classic era of the legendary superhero." Standing in stark contrast is Spider-Man Noir, which "features a cunning and covert depiction of Spider-Man," who uses the shadows and remains unseen as his foes suffer surprise attacks. It's a "1930's-influenced, black-and-white cinematic environment," and if you want to catch a glimpse of it, check out the debut trailer. Said Rob Kostich, Head of Marketing at Activision:
"Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions delivers an original storyline that bridges four unique worlds. Each action-packed universe will have its own detailed art design and thrilling missions, challenging gamers to use new skill sets to defeat enemies as they unlock powerful new moves and progress through the game."
Handling the script is Marvel comic book writer Dan Slott; you will be tasked with the mission of capturing the Tablet of Order and Chaos, which has been shattered and spread across all the parallel universes. Recognizable villains such as Kraven and a cool Noir version of Hammerhead will be included as well and in short, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions appears to be a definite nod to the loyal fans. For more info, feel free to visit the game's official site.

Looks interesting, but I actually like the "Noir" Spidey much better.
I wish they had done it as a full game in only that old 30's/40's styled way.
But it's a shame that anti-vision's has to even be involved in any games, cause I think they'll get their greedy mitts caught in the till again just so they can try scamming us somehow for extra payola, IMO.

I can see the think tank at Activision brainstorming: "Oh, look at that! Somebody write this down!....For a superhero game to be successful, it has to feature a superhero AND be good as well."
Somehow, I have my doubts about how good it'll actually be.

why dont you ask it to be cell shaded while your at it!
come on a little common sense people, some games are meant to be dark and gritty like batman, gears of war.
and some games are suppose to be a little more light felt ala lost planet or something more inviting.

I was stating that I didn't like the cartoony graphics, the whole video had cartoony graphics. I did not mention anything about the atmosphere of the game. I would never equate spiderman with "dark and gritty". Come on people. Don't jump to assumptions. You know what that does.

However the gameplay was a lot of fun and if you got the timing down and learned all the moves it was a fantastic way to feel as if you were Spider-man.
Problem is I pre-ordered this game from gamestop because craptivision gave them exclusive pre-order content. However the game was delayed at the last minute, half the pre-order content was canceled at the last minute and the pre-order shirt came in a week later, all of this culminating into my hatred for gamestop and craptivision.
So here I am with a new Spider-man game that looks like it has a chance of being interesting and I'm left asking, why the crap is it activision again? I hate that company and all they stand for, I hate how they run their business and how they treat their customers.
Aside from my feelings on craptivision, although the game setup sounds incredibly intriguing, I foresee a problem. Sounds as if this will allow them to add future universes onto the game, which at first my not be a bad thing. But I can see them have universes available for dlc at launch date, meaning we will get an incomplete game. They are advertising 4 universes, I can see them releasing 3 at $60 and 4 for a collectors edition for $75.
The sad thing is if its released with bugs they'll never fix it as was obvious with web of shadows and all other craptivision games. If only disney would allow some other company to make a Spider-man game now that they own Marvel. Oh, but then that is just my hope, imagine a Spider-man game by sucker punch. Dare to dream I guess.

That is exactly what I was getting at with my previous post. A developer like sucker punch could make the game with amazing graphics and story and not have it look cartoony like something you would see on the Wii. You just pretty much made my point for me. Thanks

i'm a total superhero fan (DC/Marvel/anything else LOL) ... & Spidey is one of my fav when i was a kid.
Gaming side, i loved the 1st one i got on PC, i played a few levels & put it to sleep (like all my games) ...
tried all the other games that came on PC (Spiderman TM - quite OK, 2 - didn't like, Friends of Foe & Web of shadows, never installed, taking dust somewhere) ...
i just hope they do a really good 1, the theme seem OK till now, i shall keep an eye on it (only 1, i need the other 1 for TLG)
now i'm almost blind .. ouch!
cheers!
