Square-Enix Confirms FFIX For Japanese Network

We kind of figured this would be happening, what with the hints Square-Enix had already dropped. But it's good to get the confirmation.

As reported by Andriasang citing the Square-Enix Members Twitter page, Final Fantasy IX will launch on the Japanese PSN at some point in the near future. We don't have an official date or price just yet but we imagine those are forthcoming very soon; Square-Enix CEO and president Yoichi Wada made the brief announcement himself. If you missed FFIX, you definitely missed another masterful RPG; it was a little different from FFVIII but then again, all FFs are "a little different" than the one before it, and although I personally didn't like the characters very much, the game ruled. Just out of curiosity, did anyone else finally beat Ozma buy chucking a piece of Dark Matter at him? I was down to only Zidane and I figured I'd have to reset and try again, so I just tossed a piece of Dark Matter I didn't need any longer and bam, max damage...dead. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  Just priceless.

But anyway, the point is that FFIX is coming to the Japanese PSN and I'm relatively certain it'll be available on the US PSN at some point, too. We'll let you know when they release full details.

i wont have my wallet ready highlander....

i will however keep a 20$ balance AT ALL TIMES on my psn account so i can buy it the microsecond i know its avalable, awsome awsome ff...tetra master, best minigame evah!!! and yeah i never did kill ozma, but that sounds priceless ben, funny stuff!

No offense to Irievibes, but tetra master jsut wasnt rewarding enough. Granted it was fun, but its just not like triple triad were we can refine the cards. It was the only letdown for that mini-game. Oh, and i read somewhere that if you manage to collect all the cards with a master rank (inm not sure if its master), the game will hang and not register your completion. hehe

ffIX is the only one of the ff i have i didnt beat. i have 7 8 9 & 10. i have 11 and i tried it for a while but just wasnt for me. didnt play 12 and i dont think i will get 13. i dont know that i have the time for a ff game any more. either way i still have all of them on disc if i really want to play them.

all this talk of ff games makes me want to play one. ugh i would finish 9 if i had a clue where i was. still have the save file but its been like... man when did 10 come out. i stopped playin 9 to play 10.

Well, these PS1 classics are - to me at least - a way of releasing more games for the PSP because the PSP has the perfect screen for them. PS1 games look like crap on a big screen TV, but the PSP screen is just about perfect size and resolution wise.

Can't play PS1 CDs on a PSP after all, so even if you own these on disc, it's worth a few $$ to play it on the PSP.

I noticed Square doesn't size the game perfectly to the screen. Theres always black bars at the top and bottom and it tends to look stretched no matter what option you choose except its original size. I bought RE2 and 3 and Capcom fixed it so it fits perfectly with PSP screen. At first when i noticed it, before i bought RE2, i just assumed it couldn't be helped. But Capcom sized it right, Square could have too. I hope they noticed this and fixed it for IX.

you CAN convert your ps1 games to isos, even if its multidisc, ive done it before but of course this needs a CFW psp to begin with so its a moot point for most people, but it was doable...still i own said psp, can make the isos, own the original ps1 games, and you know what?


id still pay 9 bucks just to not have to bother with any of that crap i mentioned above...
totaly worth it, and as jawknee has said before, its a whole new experience playing it on the go with psp, it just works beautifully with it

I look forward to this one. Back when FFIX launched on the PSX I was already swept away by the Sega Dreamcast and possibly even the PS2(seems like it launched right around then).

However, with the PSX classics having re-released on PSN I've been enjoying them on my PSP. I re-visited FFVII a couple months ago which I hadn't played since launch. Currently, I'm slowly working through FFVIII for the first time. I'm on disc 3, so I think I'm getting close. Squall's realizing he likes Rinoa-like I didn't see that coming =)

Anyway, FFIX has a quirky look to it that seems really divergent from the previous two. I heard the battle system is good. I just don't know about that guy with a monkey tale.

zidane rocks, hes got sort of a "robin hood/balthier thing going on, i like it, steiner is funny too, but i liked how the guy grows on you, hes anal to absurdity but his heart is as big as his armor, i personally loved the story and kuja istn a bad guy at all, but seymour was the best, totally wacko

@LV, I liked the gameplay in VIII more. FFIX was the only final fantasy I couldnt figure out how to max out all the characters HP and MP. I liked the Junction system more then the one in IX too. Although I do like Zidane more then Squall. he's a whiney pusscake. I still really liked IX just not as much.

@Wolf, I actually like VII the most because it has a better cast, story and magic system. Materia > all.

Eh, Cast? who then? Cloud? because he's just as emo as squall was. Tifa? Barret? they pretty much all have counterparts in other games. I mean look at FF13, Vanille is obviously Yuffie, Lightning is Cloud, Hope is Vaan, etc. etc. but i mean obviously that's just base characteristics and eventually your gonna run out of models, haha

But you are right about Materia, it was pretty awsome, but so was FF8's. I really don't remember much of FF9's magic system anymore, been so long..

imo, its the best ps1 FF game with a number behind the name. Awesome story, good characters that grow on you, the BEST ending out of just about any FF games imo. But FF Tactics is still my favorite out of the ps1 games.

Currently playing thru 9 right now,4 hours into it

Dang, more proper FF goodness!! I remember back in the late PS1/early PS2 days when getting properly working discs for the PS1 FFs was almost impossible! I had a working copy of FFVIII, but I never had the chance to play VII and I partially played IX because I borrowed the discs from my cousin, and they crashed on me during cg cutscenes. But now, I can get them all, and they're cheap too! I'm so happy I have a PS3.

you can play ps1 discs on psp, via remote play, although its a bit of a faff

Highlander is aware of that feature, though he's aware of LAG as well which hampers his playing of them via Remote Play. It doesn't hamper me because I'm sexy.

It's the extensive cranial ridges and secondary mandibles that do it LV, that portrait of yours is awesome.

Oh and Slimey, if you want to get technical, when using remote play, you are not playing the PS1 game on your PSP, you're playing it on your PS3 and using your PSP as a remote control. Technically speaking of course.

Nice, I still plan on getting these FFs (VII,VIII,IX) all at once, I'll just have to wait for the money to come, I'm kinda hoping they'll bring the prices of VII and VIII down a bit, lower price is almost always good, almost always, because the PS3 doesn't need another price cut in my opinion, just sayin'

If you have it on disc already, why not play it on your PS3 which surely does a better job than your PC for running a PS1 game with a proper PlayStation controller.

Day late so you'll probably never read this but my actual disc 2 broke and I am left with my back up iso files. I've had all the PS1 games that I really enjoyed on this dusty old hard drive for years now and that just happened to be one. Hence the reason I can actually enjoy Crono Cross but curse the stars when I want to play FFIX

That's great news. I am 65 hours in on FF8 so should be ready for 9 soon and I still have the strategy guide for 9 so I am more than ready. Hopefully, although I doubt it, it's released here before June since I start school then and will have limited time. I know the best news for me would be making XII downloadable. That was one of the best for me but since that is a PS2 game probably won't happen but from what I understand they can make any game downloadable but the system won't play the actual disks.
