Star Wars: Dark Forces Should Be PSN-Bound

It looks like a couple more PlayStation classics are headed to the PSN and if you're a "Star Wars" fan, you should probably pay attention.

Although shooters of any kind weren't exactly top-notch on consoles back in the late '90s, Star Wars: Dark Forces proved to be a solid experience for long-time fans of Lucas' universe. And now, if you check out the ESRB's latest listing, you'll see they've rated it for the PS3 and PSP. This can only mean it's headed to the Network in the form of a digital download some time soon, so that'll be appreciated by those who played and enjoyed Dark Forces well over a decade ago. The other game on the list is One, which also received decent review scores and although not a huge hit, remained popular with PlayStation owners for a little while. This is actually already on the PSN so if you haven't tried it, give it a shot. Add this to the fact that we should soon see Final Fantasy IX on the PSN in North America, and it seems clear that Sony wishes to drop plenty of old-school classics onto the Store. They're definitely popular so why stop now?  Keep 'em coming, we say.

But perhaps more importantly, what titles aren't there that should be? What should be the next PS1 classics to return in digital form? Got any hot ideas?

I liked Dark Forces. Used to play that on the old PC back in the day. Still, I kinda wish they could give us Jedi Academy instead.

The ability of Sony to re-release PS1 hits on PSN is a great thing. It gives them something no one else can really match.

Now, if Sony can somehow pull off the same trick for PS2 classics, it will give them many more years of re-releases to play with that can't be matched by the competition.

I completely agree about the PS1 games and PS2 games on the PSN would be great. I'm still holding out hope.

I would also love to see Sony strike a deal with Sega and Nintendo to get some old school NES and Genesis games on the PSN similar to the Wii online service. Why not offer them to all of the hardcore gamers who passed up on a Wii?

Personally, I would like to see a near complete collection of old games from all systems available for download in the future. Its my hope that when I have kids I'll be able to play the classic NES games with them but I really doubt I'll still have a working NES by then.

How about a cross licensing deal with Nintendo and Sony where Sony can sell the Nintendo Virtual Console and games, and Nintendo can sell a PS1 emulator and PS1 games? With a nominal licensing fee arrangement based on sales no one loses out.

Both Nintendo and Sony would widen their market amazingly and strengthen their platforms - and annoy the snot out of Microsoft at the same time.

BTW there was talk of a Dreamcast emulator last year I believe. So perhaps Sega and Sony could have something in store for us at E3?

Well, since PS1 games were released on the PlayStation, how many other companies can re-release these games on present day machines? There's Nintendo and Microsoft. I don't believe either of them can release PS1 games on their machines.

Never heard of it, I liked One though. As far as PS1 classics go, I think they should make a big push to just have them all available, or at least all of them that sold a decent amount. But since all I need to happy this generation is Suikoden VI, I'll settle for them putting up Suikoden II on the network.

Awesome! Sony knows what we want; old PS1 games on our HD TV's! Everyone better buy this thing since they went out of their way to ensure these crappy old games run better on your high-end, home theater system by 'possibly' optimizing the way the PS1 games run on the PS3 in the last firmware update. And we only gave up a totally tech-forward option, the multiple O/S's ability, for this! what a bargain! now sony can make more money by reselling us games we already bought a long time ago (and got tired of just as long ago).

If you got one eye on your past you ain't looking to the future with both of them...

And if you depend on a Linux installation running on a 3-4 year old system with 256MB of RAM, you're looking forward? $200 will get you a better Linux development platform today, you may have heard of it, it's called a "Pea Sea".

For future PSOne releases, I'd really like to see Fear Effect and Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix. And Colony Wars and some of its sequels.

The Star Wars game sounds interesting, but I've still got Star Wars the Force Unleashed that I only made it about 2 hours into before I lost interest. Whenever I think of buying another Star Wars game, I always think of all the hours of playtime I could get out of the one I've already paid for :)

I wanna see a remake of X-wing vs Tie Fighter. Now THOSE were fun games :) Can't remember if I played dark forces. It looks familiar, but then again a game called DEUS destroyed my love for shooters when I was a PC gamer.

I was just playing Modern warfare2 I got off check my received messages and before i could finish my PS3 just went off for no reason.I tried turning it on several more time but it just goes back off. The green light goes on for 2 seconds then it goes yellow it turns off and a red blinking light goes on. I need Help

After that i press the power button thred blinking light turns solid red the i press the power again and the whole process begins again. I don't know what to do.I have a 60 gig Ps3 from launch with an updated 120 gig in it. This is the first problem i have ever had.

FYI, You better stop with that f*cking attitude, or you'll never get anyone to help you here(and you're sooo f*cking lucky that I'm even responding back to you).

Plus, you're showing us that you're too lazy to check the forums, so we have to figure that you're also too lazy to even want to do anything about your PS3 problems either.


Anyways, it sounds like you've finally gotten the dreaded YLOD.

First, go into our forum's section(the button's at the top of this page), for some answers & maybe a few quick temp fixes are that you can try.

BTW, You'll have to sign up again to post there though because for some reason, your username & info doesn't automatically carry over into the forums section.

That's all I've to to say on the matter, take it for what it's worth......or not!

actually no, it would be a very bad idea for sony to do this because if they did id stop buying ps3 games and just live off the classics!
im still yet to play a game that tops crash bandicoot and thats what 10 years old?
