Capcom Talks "Balancing Up" In Super Street Fighter IV

If you think Super Street Fighter IV won't feature anything fresh besides a few new characters, you need an education.

And a very cool and lengthy interview over at the Capcom Unity blog should be your destination for said education. You might not realize just how hard the developers worked to improve many of your favorite characters, including Guile, Vega, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Sagat. It's all about a "balance up" philosophy, largely in response to fan feedback after last year's Street Fighter IV; a fantastic game in its own right but players did notice a few balance issues. Read up on what they've done: they say Guile has become more "Guile-like" (whatever that means), Vega gets some "helpful buffs," Dhalsim isn't as weak as before, M. Bison's psycho crusher move is more potent, and while Sagat is still a bad-ass, you might not want to break the controller every time you lose to him. It seems that many fighting fans have complained about these characters, especially Guile and Sagat, and Capcom wasn't about to ignore those complaints.

So who plans to snag this significant upgrade come the end of the month? It could very well be worth your money, especially once you learn more about certain "balancing" improvements.

I will. The game is only $40 and it includes very much needed balancing as well as 10 characters, which is just CRAZY good!I'm happy to see that the fighting genre is back. Thank God Guile is more Guile-like cause in SF4 it seemed like a very different character. Also online is gonna be sooo robust this time, possibly better than BB.Can't wait till the 27 which happens to be a day after my B day....(gift to myself) ;)

I have a deep hatred for Guile

And it's not just because M. Bison's my all time fave character...

But even I agree, Guile wasn't Guile in SFIV

I've had this preordered since it became available... to preorder. Looks sweeet and i'll be getting a t-shirt of my main characterd halsim. Sucks that it doesn't release here in uk till 30th though. I'm quite looking forward to seeing the balances put in the game.

@scarecrow

LOL I feel your pain. Another character who felt so off was Vega. He's my main and will always be, but again there's no denying how incredibly gay he played in SF4 too.

@Laksh

I hate when we never get a real simultaneous release. I just feel like I'm being left out lol, know what mean? Oh well, I wish I was getting a t-shirt...All we get here in the states are a bunch of thumb covers lol fail :(

Heh, good to see. Other characters need re-balancing as well. So waiting on those other updates.

The best update of all is that Ryu and Sagat have been nerfed hard!

How Ryu's shoryuken is better than Ken is the dumbest thing Capcom has ever done

I might buy this when its 20 bucks. I got bored with Street Fighter IV pretty fast. Love the design and art direction though.

How Capcom is not completely embarrassed to release the exact same game with the slightest of tweaks such as "making Guile more like Guile" is just absurd.

@Alienage

Its capcom and we love em for it.

Well Except for the RE series. those have been milked to the bone.

But if you knew capcom then Super street fighter 4 should have been no surprise.

Can't wait to get my game on with t.Hawk

Alienage you act as if they haven't been doing this for years. How many versions of Street Fighter II did we see on the SNES? A lot.

Fighting games are always like that , 2-3 NEW characters, some new stages and trying to balance some characters.

I'm actually surprised with Capcom putting a decent price of 39.99 for this game I expected 59.99.

@Scarecrow: Yes, it's a sequel because it continues the story where it stopped in BB: CT. And there are huge system changes as well (why they changed it is beyond me, I thought the system in CT was perfect)

i dont know if "balanced" would be a word id use for SFIV, i think something along the lines of muddled, and stringed together would be more accurate!

as far as im concerned mortal kombat is still the king of fighting games, shaloin monks was such a good game and jesus christ never have i had such trouble beating the final boss!
having to fight goro, kintaro AND shao kahn all on one bit of health, yeah i think we have a new definition to the word brutal!

deception was such a good game too, the konquest mode was allot of fun and surprisingly it actually had a decent story to boot!
than you had their style of chess and tetris to keep you occupied.
and the brutality, OMFG some of the fatalitys were so creative you have to be one twisted mother %$#@er to think them up!

all they have to do to revive the series (because midway has gone bankrupt and are now owned by wanner bros) is take all of MK deception build a new story for konquest, new powers for tetris, and add in the weapons, environmental kills, the test your might and test your sight from previous games, the falling combat and going through wall combat from MK V DC universe, brutalities and you got yourself the perfect mortal kombat game!
sell 2M units on first day easy!

id love to see another shaolin monks styled game, but i doubt that would sell as well so it would be too risky to release that first.
when your just joined a new studio you want to put your best foot first, because if your first game flops well what impression does that leave?

Street Fighter and all of it's incarnations will always be the KING of fighting games. MK was okay at best even when I was young and should have been drawn to the violence I preferred SF II a lot more.

I wonder how much it will shave off the price if I bring in my regular Street Fighter IV copy...bought it when it first came out, and if trading it in helps me save some cash, then I'll do it.Trading a game in for a buffed up version of the same game? Seems worth while to me, lol.

i dont think it should be about balancing. i think street fighter has allways been a fight to fight the next aponent, working around that aponents strengths and winning. i think Capcom has been doing a good so far an i still love the franchise. but balancing , c-mon guys. practice makes perfect. stop whineing.
