PSXE Poll Update: Uncharted 2 Is Your Fav PS3 Exclusive
Uncharted 2: Among ThievesWith so many fantastic PlayStation 3 exclusives, we guessed the latest weekly poll would be pretty damn close...and so it was. We know it was difficult. ;)
Despite the intensely stiff competition, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves squeaked by God of War III, which was only about 75 votes behind. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a solid third and it was all jammed up after that. Obviously, this was a three-horse race, although we had hoped for a better showing from Heavy Rain and Killzone 2, two of our personal favorites. But considering the inherent quality of the games in this poll, we don't doubt that the decision was tough for many of you, and we're also willing to bet you've played many of the available titles. Then again, if you're a little behind and you need a good buyer's guide, this list is loaded with "must-plays." By the way, a good number voted for "Some Other Game" and we'd be interested to know what that game was...and bear in min that we're talking about PS3 exclusives, you're not allowed to say Grand Theft Auto IV or Assassin's Creed II, or something. We didn't put Flower on there but we know a lot of you love it...
As for this week's poll, we wanna know more about your gaming tastes. We'll assume that, as a PSXE reader, you already have a PlayStation 3; that being said, we're asking those who only have a PS3: if you had the choice of a second gaming system, what would you rather have? The Xbox 360, Wii, or a gaming-quality PC? Or are you happy with your PS3?

Maybe the fact that when we realized through the first 10 minutes that Capcom just totally screwed us over.
Valkyria Chronicles is damn awesome...well ugh...I can't say it is - but I damn well know that it'll be the kind of game I'll like. Once again as shown...I am the only PSXEXTREME member here...who does not have a PS3. Laugh at me all you'd like, thumb me down all you like, but do understand that I don't have a job - I still go to high school, my parents wouldn't dare buy me one due to education stress, and MAINLY...I STILL LOVE MY PS2 TO DEATH!!!
I mean that beautiful library of games...so many games, so many wonderful games which I still haven't played yet. If I only had the time!

Sad that average stuff like FFXIII sells, but not an amazing game like Valkyria Chronicles (though it sold "well")

i hated the valkyria chronicles demo when i played it. thought this game wasnt for me. but for some reason i bought the game and loved it. i guess for me, if the demo doesnt really have the story behind it, it doesnt sit well with me.
maybe we should chip in some money for shadowpals ps3 fund. I know it isnt pretty fun just to talk about stuff. you gotta play it to really get into it. sadly, i'm broke too because there isnt any entry level engineering jobs available right now so im screwed. I am using what i learned from school to good use. i just created an Excel file that calculates the amount of experience needed to upgrade weapons in final fantasy 13 the cheapest/most efficient way possible.

And don't judge the game on the demo! I own MGS4, Uncharted 2, and Valkyria Chronicles, and I can say I like VC the best of those three. And that's no knock on the other two.

I experienced the same thing. I couldn't stand the demo. Everyone says the game is good though.
Can anyone verify if the demo isn't upto snuff?

I also just learned my Vaio is actually pretty awesome for gaming. Was playing Counter Strike on my 52" Samsung last night in 1080p. Will probably start looking into getting some PC games. Just ordered Left 4 Dead 2(PC) on Amazon for $26.99 along with Bad Company 2(PS3). If there ever is a Xbox game that I'm interested in, its likely to show up on PC so I have no reason to buy another Xbox.
I also play my DSi and PSP quite a bit. Just beat Chains of Olympus again and am about to finish The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks.

Well see another Wii Zelda this year if not early next. I don't mind the wait between Zelda games. They always put that time to good use and make the games as perfect as they can be. Nintendo's never let me down when it comes to the Zelda franchise so I tolerate the long waits.
Snipey, were talking about exclusives though so FFXIII and Bioshock don't count. ;)

which is best is an entirely subjective thing, and so fat Uncharted 2 is the best game I've ever played. It's not the game I've played the most time in, but it's the best game I think i have played - thus far.

As for this week's question, I already have all of this generation's home consoles, but I still put a vote in for 'gaming-quality PC.'
I swear, every time I buy a brand new PC game (which isn't very often, I'll admit), my setup feels too old to run it ideally and I'll end up getting an upgrade (this hasn't happened since 'The Witcher' came out, but it's more than a little frustrating nonetheless).

Wasnt sure what all the hype was about but just got to Act IV last night and was astounded by it's brilliance.
Yes, I think I played the game for 1 hour out of the 4 last night, but if you accept that it is art and a game experience then it is sublime.
The amount of choices you have with styles of gameplay, weapons and gadgets.
Blown me away.

*1. Almost had a cheap used Wii 2 for my collection a months ago, but one of my co-worker's who's "a major M$ FPS a$$wipe fanboy" decided to renege on the deal.
*2. My old crappy windows XP HP is way too old & seriously outdated, plus it acts like it's on it's last legs with the fan kicking on & off every 1/2 hour, mutiple freeze ups, and other assorted crazy batsh!t. And now even it's DVD reader/writer balks when I try to feed it's tray.
Hell even the main fan fell off the motherboard when the bracket decided to let go of the mother board, and taking the main chip with it, causing a 1/3 of those tiny pins to get bent. That cost me $120 just to have the pins straightened & the fan/chip unit bracket replaced & put back in (semi)working order.
Arrgggghhh, I really need to hit the lotto(heck, I'd be like a pig in slop, if I could even win a few thousand $$$$ from it).

this very pc im using, cost less than 500 a year ago and it still runs eveyrthing i throw at it minimal effort, now if i could get my hands on one of those juicy SSd hard drives.......
seriously, BUY AMD, stupid intels are overpriced and overhyped as hell, i got a phenom 9500 and it runs like silk , xfx mobo, 4 gig corsair sticks, ultra case with cpu wind tunnel and a large vent for the graphix card, a 9800xfx gtx+ (there about 100 buks now) all in all , just buy smart and do your research and you can get an awsome rig and save a lot of cash, of course you could buy a premade one but they usually are overpriced, the thing with making your own is you gotta install your own windows and such but ive done it so many friggin times that its no biggie , its not like its hard...

On that note, it's the direction I'm expecting the next gen to go. A lot more focus on all forms of media. Not that my ps3 doesn't already do a ton of stuff, just a few tweaks here and there. And Pandora. Give me Pandora.

You have to beat the game in 5 hours or less, can't be spotted, not even once, must use non lethal weapons, and you cant use healing items. It was so damn hard. i did it on my first try, beat it in 4 hours and 57 minutes. Pretty tough challenge.

But after snooping a round a bit, I also saw it for the 360, and another 2 or 3 other expansion packs for it(another $15.00 for each pak).
Just then,, I also found the 360 Fallout 3 "GOTY edition" which already has "all" of those expansion packs included(but it's still going for $54.99 USED at the moment).
So I'd either wait a bit to see if there will be a GOTY edition for the PS3, or if not(& you have a 360 too), just wait a bit more till the GOTY edition drops in price too.

They are selling Fallout 3 used in Australia for $34AU, (remembering that most games are $100AU new).
So tempted but the GOTY edition is still around $89. Not sure if I really want all the extra stuff at that price premium so $34 isn't too bad for the normal game as something that should give me 20 to 40 hours gameplay.
They are selling MGS4, KZ2 and Fallout3 all used copies for $34AU. Not bad waiting a year or so to pick up some bargains!

So the plan is that eventually I'll build a decent I7 based PC with a mid-range GPU and Windows 7. I'll push the boat out on the RAM, PSU, cooler and case. I build my current PC more than 5 years ago and it's been 10% OC'd since day 1. But it's had zero days of failure - which is more than I can say for my son's stock Dell, or my wife's very vanilla Toshiba.
So I think it'll be a Thermaltake (great quality) PSU, a CoolerMaster (great quality) case, Asus motherboard (not the absolute fastest performers, but solid), i7 chip, a nVidia GPU, some Western Digital HDDs, a Sony or Pioneer BD and a Pioneer dual layer lightscribe DVD burner.
With an updated PC I have the option of getting most of the so-called exclusive titles from the 360 when they appear on PC without having to pay the Microsoft tax, or worry about the reliability of my hardware.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean was my favorite Gamecube title, but also one of favorite titles of all time on any console. I suggest those with a Gamecube or a Wii give it a chance, it actually might surprise you! The combat mechanic makes battles really fun, exciting, terrifying, varying, infuriating (but you can only be mad at yourself), which together blends into a dramatic experience that an RPG aficionado can't pass up on! You won't be disappointed! That's a promise!

The funny thing is, that's exactly around the time I got my first PS3. I actually went to Gamestop today and I was stuck between three games. MGS4, Killzone 2, and Mirror's Edge. I only walked out the store firmly pressing one title against my chest. Guess which one I got?

Not sure if it's a sign of people wanting to game on the PC or the other options are just that bad.
As a PC Gamer I strongly suggest others spend a little time away from their PS3s to check out some great PC titles.

Actually, I picked up Mirror's Edge. How I chose it out of the three was beyond me. I mean we're talking about two of the PS3's greatest games of all time, and I get Mirror's Edge...it's strange I know. I felt like there was some kind of divine intervention involved when I made my decision. I'm about to get on right now, just to see how good the actual game is. I enjoyed the demo very much. Here's to hope, that this is as great a title that others say it is!

As for owning another console. I just don't feel like i need to i have 20 PS3 games, and around 60 PS1-PS2 games combined wiith my PS3's backwards compatibility i think i am pretty sorted :D
Also i use my PS3 to play music, i have tons of videos on there (and by that i don't mean illeagal downloads - you'll be suprised what you can get on public domain.). and then theres the DVD uspcaler which is far better than any other i have tested, i feel i have no need for Blu-ray. All in all the PS3 is just the ultimate entertainment system.

As for the poll, i pretty much could only pick xbox 360 , as thats the only one in the list i dont have, i got a really good gaming pc, a Wii, 2 psps, ps3, ps2, gamecube, so i would only be missing an xbox360 but i simply REFUSE to spend money until they stop breaknng down every 2 months, besides, 90% of the xbox titles end up in PC, and so far my pc dosnt even sweat runnning mass effect 2 and dragon age maxed out so there is little point in me buying an xbox just to play a title or 2 ...

I just HATE UPGRADING PCs, I don't have the time for that, there's always some new graphics chip or you need to update your sound card or feed your intel with oil and lubricate your processor. Plus, get the new Windows 7 or wait XP is better for this game so uninstall Windows Vista and go back to 98 bla bla blah!!!!!! I remember when I jumped onto the PC bandwagon back in 2001 thinking PCs are faaaar better than consoles, till I played FIFA 2003 and realized the players DIDN'T have their names appearing on their shirts because my graphics chip was outdated, wow!
Consoles FTW forever!
Yes Uncharted 2 is my best PS3 exclusive.

A top of the line motherboard/processor combo will run you a couple hundred dollars and you don't have to upgrade every month, more like every 5 years.
I'm a PC Gamer and it's cheaper than being a console gamer when you factor in the cost of games and accessories.

The 360 is pretty much a glorified DVD player, as I refuse to pay for the overhyped Xbox Live. The only game I want on that system is Mass Effect 2, and I am going to hold out and see if the series comes to the PS3.
The PS3's however are on daily and used by the entire family. We have roughly 35 games on discs, and dozens of PSN titles. Sony has my money.
There is a couple PC's in the house, but they are for work and I will keep it that way. I do not want to associate my job and hobby around the same device.

I'd take a wii over a xbox because at least the wii won't tear up hours later. I don't really pc game so that makes it easier for me.

Ultimately PC & PS3 is the absolute best combination for serious gaming. For all the best exclusives, graphics, indie games, online experience (Steam/PSN), etc.

As for this week's poll, I'm going to go for, I'm happy with my PS3, I really don't want a 360 in my room.
First off, it goes against all my principles, second, the whole design, look and especially controllers do not suit me at all.
I don't need a gaming PC either, if I want to play games I have my PS3, I like that controller in my hand(just that controller, no other ones, my hands are faithful to one love).
I don't really think I need to go into a Wii argument, why would you even want that, I want it even less than a 360, after my PS3 I can't really stand graphics below PS1 level... and I don't need to hear no but Wii does have games with decent graphs, don't care, I'm ignorant at that point, sorry.

That was a tough top 5 because KZ2, and inFamous both could have taken the 5 spot for me! If LBP didnt constantly change and didnt have the fun factor it does, KZ2 would probably take that spot though.
That list actually almost makes up my fav. games of all time, but that list is for another day...

Its the best looking game on console, its a graphical powerhouse, the single player is the best ive ever played, the story is engaging, the melee system compliments the shooting, and the cover system (considering u use it right) it probably the best ive played with. The characters seem like real genuine people, and the voice acting was phenomenol.
The game was not overrated by any means. Some people do have a place in their heart for some of the games they grew up with, but those no doubt that UC2 surpasses almost any game through the development process.
