Polyphony: Prologue And GT5 Are "Totally Different"

As we continue to wait for Gran Turismo 5 - which series creator Kazunori Yamauchi keeps saying is "90% complete" - the only sampling we have is in the form of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

And while it's certainly a demo of the full game, one has to remember just how much time has elapsed since the release of Prologue: the latter became available around Christmas of 2007, believe it or not. Therefore, one really shouldn't assume that such a demo is truly indicative of the final version; according to CVG, Yamauchi says GT5 will be "totally different." We're not really surprised at all but it's probably important to remind the fans that just because they may have played Prologue to death, that doesn't mean they know how GT5 will be. Said Yamauchi to PSM3 magazine:

"Prologue is really only a prologue. Though the look and feel of Prologue and the full version will have uniformity, the full version will be totally different in terms of scale and diversity in comparison."

That likely goes without saying but again, there appear to be a great many people who are treating Prologue like one of those standard demos that pops up a week before a game releases. This is a whole different thing and when you sit down to play GT5, you'll recognize the changes and upgrades immediately. At least, you should.

One would hope that it would be totally different in terms of scale and diversity. Prologue was great and looked slick but I couldn't customise a thing. I get that you weren't suppose to being just a big demo. Also, yes with the amount of time from Prologue launching to the time when GT5 will launch I am sure that PD has had time to tinker with the physics, graphical quality, optimise the memory, and an assortment of other engine tweaks.

As soon as they unload this game off the lorry I'll pick my copy up and lock myself in my flat for a week straight and play this game on my new 3D telly and eat nothing but bangers while my flat mate does whatever he does to be a total git. (That's all for you Sven)

I agree in the customizing thing. I really hope I could, at least, add vinyls and custom paint jobs to my car.
Aftermarket parts would be a real plus too though.

You might be able to find a G27 at Best Buy for 149.99. On Cheap Ass Gamers website their was a contributor who stated the local BB are liquidating the remaining stock. But yeah that is silly.

Given the amount of time that has passed since the initial comments about it being ready for release any time and the schedule for it's eventual launch, it could well be a totally game compared to what to was in mid 2009. So of course it will be different from Prologue. Geez, I wish PD would just get on with it and stop messing around and teasing their customers.

As it should be. Prologue was a bit underwhelming. Not sure it was worth the $30 i paid for. I'm sure GT5 will deliver though.

Wow guys... relax. Just because you think it was worth $30 doesn't mean everybody will. While I certainly feel that I got what I paid for I can understand why someone would feel the price was a bit steep. You have to remember, the full retail version will only cost $60... and the content of the demo is nowhere near half of the full retail version.

It is one Platinum that I will get, no matter the challenge, and no matter the time it takes to invest in.

I just hope the trophies aren't easy to the point where the trophy hunters come in, and to hard to where it requires stupid luck to get them.

In the end, it will not matter. I'll still go after everyone of them.

This is common sense for anyone who has followed GT over the years.

In my opinion, GT5P was a beta test of sorts. You know, to get the pulse on what the fans are after.

Since then, PD has been making the necessary changes to the game, and I honestly believe we will all be blown away in a fashion similar to when the original Gran Turismo hit the market.

PD will not lose it's lead in the simulator genre no matter how many Forza's and other sims come out inbetween releases.

Plus, if GT loses a few customers due to being impatient, so be it. There are 10 million folks out there that will still buy the game.

Good things come to those that wait is how the saying goes.

Agreed. I also believe all the demo's at the TGS and the CES were used to gather fans reactions too.

I just have a feeling the end game will blow us all away!

Some of you need to understand that this is not aimed at us informed and smart gamers

This is more for uniformed/dumb people who claim that Forza/Need for speed/Grid are better than GT5 because they don't like GT5P*

There was an article here at psxe where some sites were comparing Forza to GT5P lol...

Amazing that GT5P came out in 2007 (and looked so good)

Can't wait for E3 and the eventual release

Wow man. Once you see the London Track in HD, you won't look at any racing game the same again.

What's even more amazing is playing the track after the you watch the "Course Guide".

I sure hope all the tracks have the "Course Guide" feature in GT5. It shows how much work goes into creating a virtual race track! It's cool to see as well!

Not really surprising, but good to hear from the source anyway. The amount of time they've had to improve upon virtually everything in the game since Prologue launched makes it virtually impossible for it to be otherwise.

Prologue was great though...can't wait to see what another 2 years of dev time does to it.

i really want to see what this game turns into. i played gt5p and had a lot of fun with it. it was hard to beat a couple of the last races and i think i was 3 races away from all golds. i really want to buy a racing wheel for this game.

i dont really care about this being in 3d. as cool as it will be i just want this game to come out already.

I guess they must speak a different form of English where I come from. When I read "the look and feel of Prologue and the full version will have uniformity", I take that to mean that the graphics and physics will be very similar. The "totally different" comment refers only to the "scale and diversity", which I would take to mean the number of cars and tracks.

If GT5 had the worst graphics imaginable, where the cars were just boxes, and the tracks were just grey stripes through a green field with no trees or stands, I'd still take it over the opposition. It's the handling which sets GT apart... luckily it has the best graphics too :)

Recently, I tried Forza 2 on a friend's 360 and it's utter shite! Unless Forza 3 improved the handling/physics by at least three million percent I can't see why people compare Forza to GT.

Yo Radioheader, you mean Forza 3? People are saying it is the "definitive racing experience" now if that isn't a load of pure "shite" I don't know what is. It's funny because on Metacritic, GT3 A-Spec scored higher than F3.

Considering the grueling amount of time it has been in development I really cannot see any reason why this will not be The Perfect Racing Sim.

Just yesterday I was watching some of the trailers for Prologue and some of the more recently released ones, its plain to see that there is a vast difference visually. The Prologue trailers look really bad in comparison.

Yes I think we all knew this already and if you didnt theres somthing wrong. I can't wait for this game, the sad part is there is no split screen that was some fun times racing your friends. I just hope they put in two-player battle(plit screen) in before they luance it.

Sony's holding it up as their Autumn trump car (so to be honest, it's more on Sony, than Polyphony)

There were so many great games earlier this year, and more are still coming out (Super Street Fighter IV, Modnation Racing, MGS: Peace Walker)

It could have had a Summer release (but sells during the Summer are not that great, sadly)

It's only logical for it to come out in Autumn

so they freaking better be considering prologue released what 2 years ago?

anyway, did that really need saying?
i mean prologue had 1 track, no damage models, no nascar, no rally, few cars, few driving options.
there putting a sh*t load of work into this, and for that i thank them, but i think i speak for the majority when i say for fu**s sake just release the freaking thing!
GT5 is already 20 times better than any driving sim out there, is that not good enough?
