LittleBigPlanet Sequel Outed?

Media Molecule has often said that a sequel to LittleBigPlanet would be "counterproductive," in that they keep enhancing and building on the original game.

And yet, we've seen more than a few hints that LBP2 is indeed in the works. And you know, the when you deal with licensed material and the artists involved aren't always checked out on what to say and what not to say, things can slip out... As noted by IGN, electronic musician Ochre posted on his Twitter page - pictured in the article - that he recently licensed one of his songs for use in "LittleBigPlanet 2." Here's the post:

"Pleased to announce the licensing of 'Infotain Me' to Sony for Little Big Planet 2 on PS3."

Doesn't get more straightforward than that. IGN does remind us of a new game called LittleBigPlanet Motion, obviously designed to take advantage of the upcoming PlayStation Move, and Ochre could be referring to such a project... But we can only go by the words themselves, and what we see is "LittleBigPlanet 2." And of course, Sony never comments on "rumor and speculation" so for now, we'll just hope for a full sequel. Gather 'round, Sackboy fans...

i kinda don't want an LBP2 right now

they should just wait till PS4 for that

i mean would we be able to carry over the DLC and levels that we've made??
if not then that seems like a waste of time and money

That's kinda what I'm hoping. If they make a sequel maybe they will make it backwards compatible to carry over all items. Doubtful, but it would be pretty good thinking on their part.

yeah a waste of my time and my money. all the add-ons I bought and time I spent crafting levels, all down the drain so they can make a sequel, I say no thank you please.

LBP2 shouldn't come out for the PS3. I don't mind the first game having DLC and the sort to shape it into a bigger game though. But an entire 2nd game is a little too much for me right now. Maybe for the PS4, when they HAVE to make a 2nd installment. I wouldn't mind that.

I would be very happy as long as you could import stuff from original lbp. Like levels and other stuff. I do trust Media Molecule to do it right because they are just awesome like that.

If LBP2 were to release in the fall, that would be two years since the original released. I can't imagine what "extras" they'd have to warrant a second release but I'd be full of carp if I said that I wouldn't be excited for this. I would like them to take some cues from the PSP version and add more animations to the sack boys and girls. The deaths could be more animated. They could make adventures dedicated to air and space with separate gravity properties. Imagine being a pilot in a user created LBP shmup but don't think of a cheesy Sega rip-off where they just pluck characters from their games and make a sorry ass "racing" game.

I'd love to be a beta tester for any of it.

I really hope they just keep updating what is available. They claim that their are enough user created levels right now that it would take 20 years to play them all, do we need lbp2, sure when the ps4 comes out and it should still give access to original lbp.

The only reason they'd release a LBP2 is to make another large sum of money. Sure tons of people have LBP one and play the online as well as buy the DLC, but the DLC isn't making big-bucks or anything, they could just release a whole new game with 5-10 worlds and do it all over, make a more friendly create station and other things, but I'd think the main reason would be for them
A. to make money from it
B. to have superior graphics
C. or to just make a whole new system with epic dedicated servers =D lol

I agree with make a more user-friendly create mode... I always wanted to get involved but the ps3 started getting too many great games(i say that like its a bad thing) and so I never had enough time to learn how to make decent levels.

If all the important (bought) DLC can be imported to LBP2 then hell yes! If not, then no...

But if they're truly going for a sequel, there's no doubt it will be 10 times better

As a big fan of platform games, I'm actually hoping this is true because I know they will do it right!

little big planet is an amazing game. i am still amazed at the levels being made by the community. it is really hard to make a good level and takes a lot of time.

anyone here want to help with some 4 player puzzles?

i can honestly say i look forward to something new from MM. they have proven to be on top of their game.

LittleBigPlanet is a very fun game, but it seems lately games aren't about having fun. Instead they are about who can make the most headshots and improving graphics to make the headshots look more realistic.
Bring Back Mario! (But on the PS3, this way we can have 25GBs of wonderful SMB levels in stunning HD!

As most of you have stated already, if they do plan on releasing it, it will have to be backwards compatible, or else it'll be a waste of people's money, but if they do release it, I'm pretty sure it will be.
I'll be pretty excited to play some more platforming with ma buds. Even though they always screw up my house thingy (pod)...

Personally I'd want a sequel to be something completely different. If it was so similar that you could import existing levels/DLC then it would A) Feel like a rippoff, and B) Kill the original LBP. Ideally the two games should be able to coexist.

But LBP2 is a bad thing. it'll completely alienate everything ayone put itno the first game. unless everything we have created can be carried forawrd to the new one. i mean im excited about a LBP move, but to alienate everyone who got the first one would be harsh, considering its an ever expanding game.

i dont think LBP needs a sequal, the game itself embraces unlimited levels and stages made by the players around the world and yourself. why would this game need a sequal, the game itself has infinite possibilities.

I've always disliked sequels to games that don't need them. For example: sport games. Those are the single most useless pieces of software junk one purchases and gets left with a stack of "outdated" crap lying around. Little Big Planet falls under the same category. It's a great game they should just continue adding to until it runs it's course. All they need to do is throw out a commercial or two once Move comes out to get a new crowd interested in it.
