Rumor: Capcom Confirms Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Fans of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 have been waiting quite a long time for an official confirmation of a third entry and we might finally have one.

Capcom held their press-only Captivate event in Hawaii this past week and according to Planet Xbox 360, two very interesting pieces of information have come to light: first is the apparent unveiling of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, set to release "in full 1080p" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Furthermore, it will not be a downloadable title; it should be a full retail release and boast the likes of Wolverine, The Hulk, Storm, Spider-Man and Magneto. But will it retain the traditional 2D look...? Well, not quite. The source claims that Capcom will blend the style we saw in Street Fighter IV with the old-school 2D graphics and best of all, it'll be on display in E3 this June. Secondly, there's the apparent announcement of a sequel to Bionic Commando: Rearmed, a relatively well-received downloadable title from 2009 that must've sold well enough to warrant "Rearmed 2."

So what say you, fighting fans? You psyched that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 should soon become a reality?

Some 2D things need to die, others need to return. 2D fighters should die. 2D Castlevanias should return.

Even the big budget flashy fighters get old within a week and aren't worth the full price.

Double Dragon would be kind of interesting revamped in graphics but the style stay the same. I liked Double Dragon, that game brings back childhood memories.

Yeah, it gets boring in a week for people who stink at fighters or don't have the patience to become good.

no, they just get boring period. Fun at first, but the stories are always thin, the endings are always short or lame or non-existant, the online fighters are always cheaters, and there is hardly any replay value.

indeed, and unless you have someone to play with, it's totally boring and the problems with online lag and constant ken spamming wears someone down at some point

Yeah I can see fighting games getting old quick if you didn't have someone to play them with. Fortuantely I'm lucky enough to have alot of friends who are really into fighting games (though half love street fighter and the other half love tekken)

And if you really get board with a game you can always play the street fighter drinking game, every time you hear Hadoken! you have to drink.

I like this though online will if its not balanced it will piss me off.. i play the first MVC all the time and never get bored of it. MVC2 was good but I liked the first one better despite the bigger line-up. also I'm pretty decent at the game but couldn't beat anyone online... mostly because of infinite combo spammers :(

I can understand that. I personally don't like puzzle games like Tetris or Bejeweled. I like puzzles in other genres though(like Zelda, Professor Layton, etc).

If you like puzzle games and haven't played either of the first 2 Ecco the Dolphins and don't mind the 16 bit graphics I would definitely suggest playing those. Some of the greatest puzzle games of their time accompanied with challenging gameplay, excellent music, and pretty good story line (which was rare for genesis games IMO)

Also going off the Zelda note... im assuming 3D Dot Game Heroes is a day 1 buy for you right?

the puzzles in GOW 3 sucked!
they were far to small and simple compared to the puzzles in the first 2 games.
they needed more puzzles like the one in heras garden and less like that stupid music puzzle.
they were far to simple, it was just move 1 block here and wallah your done!

Why is Mortal Kombat the only fighter allowed to do fatalities? And why are there no new fighter IPs? They need to revamp fighters before they become like FPS.

Well MVC is a much different fighter than MK. There are cool ways to destroy your opponent like supers and what not. I enjoy the former series more due to the longer learning curve and more flexibility... also the characters are cooler IMO (though MK characters are cool as well)

On that note I don't think they will become like FPS because the feeling with each series is different. Soul Caliber, Vs. Series, KOF, Tekken, and MK give a different experience IMO.

However I definitely think fighters can use a revamping but how would you do that?

There isn't much you can do with an FPS. You have a gun in front of you, and you see people jumping around and it looks soo lame! The fighting games, however, have style to them. The specials and the diversity in character. In an FPS, what's the point of choosing a character? In the end, you're going to practically play the game the same way every time...running around with a gun. Take, say, Thrill Kill for instance. All the characters were their own selves. Hell, they ripped people apart. But what am I talking about, this game barley exists, lol. Anyway, I don't wanna go on forever, but the point is, Fighting games are a bit more diverse than FPS games, because each fighting series has their own things that make them completely different, as opposed to the FPS genre being the same damn thing being regenerated every time they make a new title.

I agree with you but I'd like to throw one exception into your point.. Borderlands! Depending on what character you choose you play the game a lot differently... maybe thats why I like it so much

I'm psyched for this on one condition: it's like the PS2 version of MvC2 and not like the PS Network version. I was so excited to buy the game on the PS Store but then I was really bummed out when I found out that all of the characters were unlocked right at the start and that the "store" was gone. Collecting points and buying all my unlockables was the main reason I loved coming back to MvC2. That's what gave it the longevity. Taking that away was a big mistake.

Same goes for Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. Taking the Krypt away was quite depressing.
