Crysis 2 Animator Found Inspiration In Kojima's MGS4
Even a team that isn't shy about taking potshots at other studios can't possibly find anything but praise for a game like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Crytek, the developers responsible for Crysis and the upcoming Crysis 2 that is also coming to consoles, have come under a bit of fire lately for calling out the competition in a variety of different ways. But according to a recent interview with Crysis 2 animator Luke Kelly, Hideo Kojima's masterpiece was a great inspiration for the artistry and design we will see in the hotly anticipated sequel. In response to the question, "Do you get inspiration from other games/movies?" Kelly responded:
"I certainly do! Metal Gear Solid 4 is a perfect blend of; production values, balanced gameplay, atmosphere and personality. Many games have some of these qualities, but very few have all four."
There are a few other interesting replies but to hear that MGS4 has been an inspiration is encouraging, and a break from the line of people working on Crysis 2 who have already pegged the game as a guaranteed Game of the Year contender. Nothing wrong with a little optimism via encouraging statements, of course, but it's nice when one praises another title and says, "I looked at this great piece of work to help me out." Well, that's kinda what measuring-stick games do, right?
