God Of War III, SOCOM Confrontaion Hit Sales Plateaus

Analysts expected God of War III to become the best-selling PlayStation 3 exclusive to date and thus far, it's well on its way to reaching that prediction.

Not long after getting the official word that SCEA's masterpiece had surpassed the 1 million mark, VGChartz is now reporting that the action extravaganza has already shattered the 2 million plateau worldwide. This means that in only about five weeks, God of War III has joined Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, MotorStorm, LittleBigPlanet, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as PS3 exclusives that have sold 2 million. On top of which, despite a rocky start, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation has managed to top the 1 million mark; it's now available on Blu-Ray and through the PSN, and let's not forget that Zipper Interactive is currently working on SOCOM 4. As time goes on and the installed user base of the PS3 continues to rise, there's more sales potential for PS3 exclusives. Hopefully, this - combined with the extra power offered by the machine - will cause more developers to focus entirely on Sony's console. It has certainly paid off for those studios that have succeeded in this risky endeavor (anything that isn't multiplatform might be considered "risky" these days).

Of course, these numbers are never official until we see the monthly NPD results but VGChartz isn't usually off by too much. What might be the next 2 million seller on the PS3? Smart money's on Gran Turismo 5...

Buy God of War III. Join the masses. We have to get sales over 4 million in order to justify this as a good game. Because we all know that unless something sells as well as the Xbox for MW2 its not quality stuff. Games become great after they reach certain sales numbers, haven't you heard!

You get that site when you plat GOW3. GOW2 did the same type of thing and it gave the code to run it in HD.

My bet on this is either the 2nd ending the devs are making or a code to lock the game at 60fps and pure 1080 rez.

Socom better have hit a million, You can buy it anywhere now for super cheap. If Slant 6 hadn't screwed it up in the first place it would have been way better. Funny how they finally got all the wrinkles worked out just in time to release Socom 4. Confrontation should have been called Socom: Beta.

That being said, I do love playing a good round of Socom...lol, the mechanics of it were solid, just the glitches in the game ruined it.

i am playin god of war 3 right now. it is amazing. i beat it on easy and now im doing it on normal. i started on normal the first time i played through and got beat by posiedon so bad it offered me easy mode so i took it. now im gonna kill zues on normal. maybe try titan mode.

i own that socom and have never put it in my ps3. i have owned it for over a year and all i heard was bad things so i never bothered to put it in. it was a christmas present and all i wanted was the headset.

You should try some Socom now, although you'll probably spend some time getting the updates downloaded before you can play.

I've always said that even after the glitches (which most are fixed now) Socom is still a really solid shooter when it's all said and done.

When you do put in Socom, put it in about ten years before you plan to play, there will be patches, oh yes there will be patches to download.

These blockbuster games are the kind of thing that make me laugh at Ninja Theory and their cry baby comments.

Make a good game and gamers will buy it. Marketing it so people know it exists helps too.

gamers did buy their game but the user base was still pretty low back then. they're just trying to justify why they went multiplatform. i mean if selling 1 million now is a big milestone now, think about a game selling 1 million then with a much lower user base.

yeah, if they had just made a HS2 like they should have, it would easily rake in 2 mil. They need to understand that the best thing about new IPs is that the sequels always sell more.

Loved SOCOM 1,2. But not sure what i think of 3, was a big change for me.

Confrontation was alright in my books still had a good time though when i played with my friends.

I haven't gotten God of War 3 yet, I'm dieing to play it. And i love Heavenly Sword, great game had a good time playing it.

I'll admit I picked up a new copy for $11.00 a few weeks back. While so many were pissed off at what a terible game it was when they paid $60.00, I wonder if they would have thought the game ok if they only paid $11.00 for it. Perhaps I threw away my money, or perhaps it will be a fun $11.00 game to play sometime in the future.

definetley GT5, but than maybe the long development cycle (biggest understatement of the century!) has hurt its sales?
i mean surely after 5+ years in development the interest has to dip a little.
like red dead redemption the internet was set ablaze when it was announced, there was so much hype for it, than it got delayed and since hype was low.
now its starting to slowly creep up again.

Whenever the subject of development time comes up elsewhere, there's usually a few people mention other games which were just as long in development; Too Human and Alan Wake often come up. But GT5 is much more eagerly anticipated than others so there's more complaining about development time.

The fact is that GT5 has no competition (on consoles anyway) so the hype won't die down, it will just heighten.

eventually people are going to get impatient and loose interest and look elsewhere.
i guess GT5 is at a advantage because its unique there is not many games like it, and it does what it does better than anyone else.
if it was in a different genre it would be a dead duck!
