Fast Attack Pack For MAG Assaults PSN Next Week

If you're an avid MAG player, you're probably on the lookout for any new additions and enhancements.

Therefore, you'll want to log onto the PlayStation Network on April 29, when the new "100% free" Fast Attack Gear Pack will arrive. This piece of DLC will offer three brand new Special Edition Sniper Rifles; the HM 90 SE for Raven, the SASR M for SVER, and the MK 14 Mod 1 EBR for Valor...it was totally screwy to type all those random letters, by the way. These fresh weapons "include a number of performance adjustments and visual variations to our already-popular long-range weapons." But that's not all: this Pack will further boast a collection of new armor types, as each of the three Factions will be able to select Improved Light Armor in their loadouts. It'll only cost you 440 in-game credits, too. Oh, and they apparently want to tell you a second time that this downloadable pack is free. Gamers have been complaining about the cost of premium DLC for quite some time, so any free expansion to a game is typically welcomed with open arms.

So who's a big MAG fan? It had a bit of a rocky start and didn't quite live up to the lofty expectations, but as we figured, it has been getting better and better ever since that time.

If you want to get into MAG then let me give my opinion on who to pick.

Go with Raven! the only bad part about Raven is our DOM map. It's the only one without a roof over half of the main objectives (letting air strikes kill almost everyone inside) and the whole map is cut in half by a river. Just what was Zipper thinking when they made that map? So much fail in that map.

Im hoping that 1.06 coming in May will help it and Valors F ninja door (I won't explain. I don't support glitches)

It's true I'm not huge into MP, but if I ever do feel the need to roll in an online shooter, why not do it with one that is completely dedicated to the online? When I was in the beta I picked SVER also. What's your PSN?

this dlc comes at a good time. i'll probably finish god of war 3 by then and before i start resonance of fate. I'm on raven now, about 7 levels away from maxing out. Once a dlc for assault rifles comes out then i'll probably switch. that way i dont have to use my points on guns. i will miss my Raven 50 cal though. maybe we should start a psxextreme clan or something. i got my copy day 1 and picked raven since that what my friends said they were picking but my friends joined sver, pricks.

@ world if ur askin me my psn is the same as this. send me an add if you want. your actually supposed to play as every faction. the only problem is that you can only do it for one at a time. mag really is unlike any other game i have every played. i was in the beta far back and it was fun but didnt hook me. my cousin got in the public beta and got hooked and when he got the game it got me hooked. you actually get a like vereran status or something like that if you get level 60 with a faction and move to another.

i started on raven way back before i got the game and my cousin brought it over. we were checkin out the other factions. i went with sver so i could play with my friends though.

i like mag it just seems like they really need to do something to it. i went online in the past week and at any point that i was on the player count is really low for all factions. its good this is free. i hope they keep pumping out stuff like this.

Fry, how many would you say it averages? When I was playing Uncharted 2 online, it seemed to average 7000 to 8000 players at any one time.

Currently, I see it has sold around 760,000 copies. I wonder what their expected sales were set at. Is this underacheiving or exceding their goals?

well i was on back in the begining like january and player count would be like over 1000 people each faction usually sver and valor were like 1700-1500 and raven would be a few hundred less. in the night time it would drop to around 1000.

now id say its under 500 for each faction. once i finish god of war 3 some more i will be going back to mag. i dont really know if that is just what i saw like i said i havent been on much.

The problem is that you need 256 players for one match that takes 30 minutes to complete. Therefore the wait times can be as long as 15 minutes if the count is low. A game like UC2 isn't going to suffer if only 5K are playing it.

Also, there are 3 modes. 64 players, 128 players, and the big one. So if you split up the 6 to 7K online between 3 factions that put them into 3 modes, you are left with only 700 per faction playing or 3 games going at once.

Further hurting it is that most people will not want to wait that long and jump into the 64 player match. The problem is that the 64 player match is basically their version of Sabotage. It's fun for a time but gets boring after playing it over 100 hours.

Shame I don't do multiplayer, so I haven't felt the need to put MAG into my collection yet.

But I'm glad to hear that those who do MP are getting a nice bonus for free!!!

Thanks Zipper, you're proving that you don't have to be like some of those other hold-back-content, wallet-rapers!

i am going to say that i am not a big mutliplayer kind of person. i dont do the call of duty games at all. if you like a new gaming experience i would say you should try MAG. i understand your probably not going to take my word for it. i dont know maybe rent it and give it a shot for a few days. it might not be for you. at least get to level 8, try the domination mode with 256 players and see what it is like. ill tell you right now its f'n crazy. well worth less then $10 on a rental.

I also really like MAG and I agree that it needs some new maps. I played it hardcore for like 3 weeks when it came out and I haven't touched it since. All these other games have been coming out and eating up my time. Sounds like a good reason to jump back in and get shot in the face!

Oh and free dlc is always a wonderful thing.

There has been some controversy concerning this dlc because when you go to the ps store it doesn't actually download anything. It seems it only unlocks what was already on the disc. So yeah it's free because we've already paid for it. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this game. But they are going to need to do something a little more drastic because the player count is getting really low as of late. The game sure has come along way since launch though. There seems to be alot more teamwork and cummunication going on. Maybe because all the twitch gamers have moved on, I don't know.
By the way Ben I noticed you guys didn't comment on the last dlc and the patch that actually changed the map layout a little bit on SVER sabotage map. They moved some obstacle around and added an extra which really changed attacking and defending strategies.
Anyways enough of the long comment, been awhile since I commented on here. Peace.

Since it the game updated just before the store update lasttime, it's pretty likely the update brought the dlc and it wasn't on disc. It would have to be on all game data in order for people who hadn't got it from the store to see the effects, so it makes sense to bring it out in a mandatory update with only an unlock on the store. As for the reason for it needing the store unlock, 1. good way for people to know it's there, 2. so Zipper can call it free dlc rather than free update. Sounds more generous.

I'm on the fence about MAG. I really want to get into it, but 60$ for something that I don't need or have the time for. KZ2 and U2 are fun enough for online game play, but I just shake the notion of potential buying this game.

Yeah, I'm still up in the air about MAG too. I was going to get it then I heard that Socom 4 was coming. The problem I have now is that there are too many games to play online. I've got UC2, I still do Burnout, I'm still loving Socom: Confrontation. I'm leary about online only games now...I can't guarantee that I'll spend enough time on it to justify buying it. There's too many other great games out there to play.

Right now, I finally broke down the other day and bought FFXIII, so that one is going to keep me going for a bit I hope. I may get MAG eventually, but by the time I do, I have a feeling that there won't be as many people playing it anymore.

I am so ready to go back to Valor.

I am all for free stuff, but what I really want is some more maps. In my opinion, it's the only thing the game is missing.

Hey max, we've got a clan of about 10 on valor at the current moment. Most of us are at level 60 right now but we are considering vetting to Raven next. We use to be on Sver first. We are thinking about waiting on another double xp weekend before we do that so there should be some time. I gotta tell you though that Valor team work is like a 3 headed chicken, it doesn't exist. We have some of the toughest letters to take but it seems so hard to hold back anymore. No one repairing things and such. I would say I miss Sver because we did seem to win alot but the truth is it got very boring. I hope Raven is a little better. I do think Valor is fun to play as when we work together but it just seems so far and few between. Anyways tell me your thoughts and if you want to hook up when you go back to valor.

Well all I can say for MAG is that its just another ps3 exclusive that didnt get the respect that the game deserves. I've written many comments on how good MAG on the previous MAG posts. The term 'don't judge a book by its cover' really fits well with MAG. Just spending few hours on this game really ain't gonna cut it. You need to delve yourself into the world MAG, and truly understand what the developer is trying to accomplis. I've to admit though that its really not a very good idea to be playing alone, its highly recommended to be playing with fellow friends, as that would lead to less frustration and annoyance. However, if you have the right team mate, the right squad, this game can offer something unlike any other out there.

My advice to anyone on the fence on this game, play it to the full and you will see the reward. Also, get a mic and make some friends in game. Nothing better than rolling with guys who will work together and keep communication going.
I've never made good friends on games before i got this game. Now my friend list is double wot it was and i play everyday just to play with those guys.

MAG is an awesome game. I have been playing it exclusively since the release and have over 350 hours play time. (I'm 8 medals away from platinum!)

The barriers you need to overcome to enjoy MAG:
1. Learning Curve - the real joy of this game comes after playing it for over 40 hours. When you know the maps, know some effective strategies being a leader, and have gotten your rank up enough to experience some of the cool gear you can use.
2. Playing with people you know or people you met who want to win and aren't morons.
3. Joining a faction that fits your particular style. Generally speaking, SVER offers the easiest faction. Their maps are easily defended and offer the most wins. Valor is kind of in the middle, with their maps being a bit more balanced. Raven is known to be the biggest challenge since their maps are the hardest to defend and they have to attack the harder maps. I've played on all three and enjoy Raven the most.

I have found that SVER has some great leaders on it that can really motivate their troops and can win when attacking. Coupled with their hard maps and they easily win at Domination every time the contract is up.

I found Valor to be very unorganized and I didnt run into one effective leader when playing on it. Not to say there aren't any because I've met some on the boards, just in the time I've played on it.

Ravens leadership is a crap shoot, if I'm leading you I tend to assume you know what you are doing and will let you know when I'm doing something that effects you or will quickly say what the strategy is. My leadership skills are average...not much of a motivational speaker.
