The Sims 3 Headed To Consoles With All-New Features

I remember working at EB way back when, always wondering why everyone would go nutty over every "Sims" release. There were entire shelves lined with these games. ...it was facking crazy.

But such popular franchises don't die out easily, especially when you tackle multiple game platforms. EA has revealed that The Sims 3, which released last year for the PC, will finally be coming to consoles this holiday season. It'll be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS and all versions are set for fall 2010. The console versions will boast all-new features, including "Karma Powers" that will determine if your lil' avatar will have any luck, or if he'll just be flat-out cursed. The PS3 and 360 entries will also feature Facebook connectivity, so you can share your Trophy and Achievement updates with friends. The Wii version gets an exclusive beach town and the DS version will introduce a brand new Story Mode, which is a first for any portable Sims. Said EA executive producer Sam Player:

"We’re bringing players the best console and handheld game for The Sims franchise to date and are excited to offer a unique experience for all types of gamers on their platform of choice. Building on the unique traits system, living open neighborhood, lifetime wishes, and endless customization options, we’ve tailored each platform of The Sims 3 with exclusive features to allow for even more control, creativity, and connectivity."

I'm sorry; I've just always found these games to be uber-creepy. And how come only girls were coming in to buy The Sims? And why were they always creepy? Well, either way, I'm positive there are millions of fans out there - creepy or not - and they should very much appreciate having The Sims 3 on platforms other than the PC.

Hmmmm, perhaps this will be the last Sims installment. My wife played them back in the day. I would watch a bit, and just shook my head. I don't get the lure.

Get your Wife to play with Home, although with all the virtual items and clothes, it could well be more expensive than Sims 3.

I was just wondering yesterday if there would be a console version. I have the PC version, day one purchase for me, so I'll skip the console version. I enjoy the Sims for I enjoy creating things, I guess. I'm guessing girls like it a lot since it's almost like owning virtual dolls. Haha.

There is actually a lot about the sims games that I enjoy. It's like a real world rpg. Altho mostly I think I just enjoyed the ability to design and build your own home.

Altho after the first one, I haven't really paid much attention to them. Due to the fact that ea has turned them into cash milkers. You get hardly anything with the original game and now have to purchase every little thing you want, which is insane.

I have played some of the third installment on pc and while its got some enjoyable elements it follows the same money hungry trend, so I will definitely pass.

What is the point of the Sins when we already have Home? One virtual doll set is much like another....

Home doesn't have the game play of the sims, but Home does have the customization of the Sims, you can reshape your avatar, redress your avatar and then there are the personal spaces to redecorate. For a person that plays with dolls, Home is a perfect virtual doll set, much in the same way that the Sims can be. It depends on how you play it.

i'm excited... i contemplated buying a new PC in order to play the sims 3... sims 2 is the reason why i upgraded my computer last time... but, now i don't have to worry about it, thank you EA!!

i'm pretty sure they see a cash-making opportunity with the consoles... they can release all of their expansion packs over the network and make a killing in a totally untapped market...

I tried playing The Sims on the ps2 and man did I suck at that game. My poor avatar was always crying and shaking his fist in anger at me. I was thinking 'to hell with this, I get enough of that in the real world'. The Sims just ain't my thing.

Demon Dog want's me to get Sims 3.

(I think it has something to go with breaking & entering the butcher shops, pissing on all the hydrant's & ripping the throats out of all those cuddly lil pet felines).

I've always been a fan of the sims, biggest draw for me has been architecture but sims 3 has made me enjoy the community aspect a tad more since being able to go around the whole town without loads. I reject the notion that it's just like Home, home is a social tool, whereas Sims is a high powered creation tool, u only get as much as what u put in. if ur highly imaginative with it then u have a hoot.

this is one thing ill never understand.
boring crappy games like this and MW2 sell into the stratosphere and brilliant games like GOW3 and such barley break 2M units.
gone are the days where quality equated to sales.

We all have our personal tastes. Some like casual games, that's why the Wii sells. The Sims is just fun, in my opinion. But I don't think it's wrong for any game to sell a lot. If people enjoy it, then that's all that should matter.

LOL, for those that don't "get" The Sims but "get" WoW or RPG games need to check themselves.
