Bungie: We Won't Be Doing Any More Halo Games

Wow, I didn't ever expect to use any Halo pics on this site...and now, I've used two in one day.

But it's not because the immensely popular FPS franchise is coming to a PlayStation platform; in fact, it's for the exact opposite reason. Following the news this morning that Activision and Bungie had signed a 10-year publishing deal, Bungie has commented on the idea of a Halo title coming to the PS3. First, Bungie's Brian Jarrard told VideoGamer that Halo: Reach will be the studio's final game in the series. "We definitely won't be producing any new Halo projects beyond Reach," he said. As for what they are making, we have no idea, but Sony's Patrick Seybold wrote on his Twitter page that the combination of Bungie and the PS3 is a potent one:

"Congrats to Bungie. Marrying their creative minds and incredible talent to the power of PS3 will be like giving PS3 fans Halo on steroids."

Remember, Bungie is not a part of Activision, so the team should be relatively free to produce what they will. Furthermore, it's important to understand that Bungie has been free of Microsoft since 2007 so they've likely been working on something all this time, which means the project is closer than you might think. That announcement might just show up at E3...

I guess that's sad if you like halo.

Personally I've always though halo was vastly overrated but it will be interesting to see what games bungie works on for the ps3.

Agree, my little brother had an xbox at one point and I tried to get into halo... never happened. He never got halo 2 either.

The only time I ever enjoyed it was when my friends would bring a console over, link it up and we would have some multiplayer fun. My bro has a 360 (granted he isn't even close to being a gamer) and he doesn't even own halo 3

Remember how Halo was going to be a PS2 game before Microsoft boughts the rights for it? I honestly don't think Xbox would've lived to a second system if it wasn't for Bungie. It'll be interesting to see what they can pull off on the powerhouse known as the PS3.

Could you imagine where MS would be if Sony fought for that?? They'd have gone the way of the Dodo, well in a different sense, a long time ago (and the gaming industry would still have some integrity).

Sounds almost like the anti-vision/Infinity Ward mess.

But hopefully Bungie had enough fore-vision to set their contract deal much in their own favor.
Or we'll see that some ole, same ole, going-to-court deal that anti-vision's ever-so-used-to these days.

Although I hated Halo 1 & 2, I did like Halo 3, so I think it will be interesting to see what new IP Bungie is going to come up.

FINALLY!!!

No but really the only two Halo games I really liked where one and two. I played a bit of three and it felt...well, very familiar. I thought about ODST and Wars but decided against it. I will probably at least rent Reach just to see. Glad that dog is finally going for a rest.

The combination of Bungie and the PS3 is only potent if Bungie knows what the hell it's doing with the PS3's architecture. Last I heard they'll be making multiplats which usually means a lot less focus on the PS3's strengths.

Don't be so quick to judge! Bungie already has some PS3 programing experience! Just watch the credits for the game of the year known as Uncharted 2!!
I'm excited to see what they'll be coming up with! To bad it's with Activision. EA would've been a better choice.
Just imagine, a hot new IP from Bungie and ReSpawn trampling the competition under the EA flag developed on the PS3, and then ported to the 360, on 3 discs!

Panic, you too should not be quick to judge. There is no proof that Bungie helped program Uncharted 2. N.D. gave thanks to anyone who helped them in some way, which could be as simple as bouncing ideas off of them on how to do their multiplayer.

I too will copy and paste this in two threads so you don't feel special to be the only one to try something so vile.

This is completely out of this conversation.
So I just lost my 80gb PS3 because of the YLOD. So I'm deciding to buy a SLIM, and here comes my question. Should I wait until E3 passes by just in case there is a price drop or a new slim model? What are the chances of those two options being a reality?

Sony may have set up for a price drop but they're not having one anytime soon. The ps3 is still selling like crazy at 299. The best buy at my house ps3 isle is practically empty other than game while the 360 was collecting dust with their many bundles. I would suggest getting the model number for the newest ps3 and look for that. less heat and less power consumption always helps. as for me, i'm staying with my 60gb all the way.

He's talking like Bungie will be making PS3 exclusives now, which I highly doubt. Bungie and Activision want to cater to as many gamers as possible.....which is one of the reasons Bungie left MS.

However, I'm looking forward to playing a Bungie made game online for FREE! I've only played the Halo SP campaigns (which were quite dull frankly), however the online seems to be where it's at.

I've never played Halo online because I refuse to pay MS's yearly fee. Not worth it for the 2-3 exclusives that have MP supposedly worth playing.

I always thought the 1st looked fun, a long time ago. Then after the 100 million Halo game, I realized how over rated the franchise really is. As Reach could be promising I just don't care, they have milked the franchise almost more than COD, and that is really BAD. They packaged ODST an expansion, for full price! And people payed it, pretty awful if you ask me. All it was, was recycled maps just like the Stimulus Package. Waste of time and money.

I don't have high hopes for this union. For one they are publishing through activision which means all their games will be multiplat, which as we all know isn't that exciting 90% of the time.

So now we'll have an overrated dev publishing thru another overrated company and delivering us more overrated games.

Going from Microsoft to Activision, things must have been really bad!

Halo is one of the most overrated games going, I have played, enjoyed but then easily forgot, and that is when you are forced to play many areas twice with lame backtracking.

Have still yet to finish Halo 3, I keep going back and doing a few more levels but it fails to draw me in and want to play more. Must of had the game for about 3 years now.

ahhhhhh bungie can we make up our minds please?
could swear i just heard them say they may do another halo game in the future a few days ago!

anyway i wish they would do a horror game.
either that or a traditional 2D platformer like crash bandicoot but fill it with puzzles like the ones out of darksiders.
maybe a game like the experimental weapons mode off shadow complex.
that is by far the best thing i have played this generation!
so much fun going through all the levels figuring out what you have to do.
FINALLY! a game that makes you use your brain a little!

It's just Halo. I did enjoy the first one, but can honestly say i lost all interest when Halo 2 was released. Even if Bungie were to bring Halo to the PS3 it wouldnt instantly make it a great game.
