Modern Warfare 2 DLC Stimulates Network Today

If you've been waiting on that Stimulus Package for the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you're wait is just about over.

As outlined at the PlayStation Blog, the first bit of downloadable content for the hugely popular MW2 will be available to download off the PlayStation Store later today for the price of $14.99. This will give you access to no less than 5 new maps for the multiplayer portion of the game; this includes two classic maps from CoD4, plus three "completely new locations that offer a variety of unique locations for your favorite gametypes." You can read up on the map info through the previous link (there's a description for Bailout, Salvage, Storm, Crash, and Overgrown), and you should also be aware of the new additions to the playlist multiplayer structure: Stimulus and Stimulus Hardcore. Bear in mind that these new modes are only available on the new maps. Obviously, you'll need this package to partake of the Stimulus stuff but they'll also provide everyone with Team Tactical, which features 6-8 players for some team-based games. The latter is due to "HUGE demand from the community." The certainly listen, don't they?

So if you need another reason to continue playing MW2, it's right here. And you can bet this won't be the last piece of DLC that comes your way, Call of Duty fans.

This is not worth the money. I haven't even touched MW2's online. I finished the campaign, had a go at Spec-Ops, and left it at that.

Actually, I kept going back to Uncharted 2 to be honest. Far more fun. And Assassin's Creed 2 was begging to be finished so I spent a long time on that.

And the price?!?! Forget it. Activision no longer deserves my money. Guitar Hero 5 was the last decent attempt at Guitar Hero, and the last game I'm getting from Activision.

It'll be interesting to compare sales between 360 and PS3 of the Stimulus package. Bet it'll be a quarter of a million compared to 360's 2 million. Cos PS3 owners got more games to play!!!! :P

arrival of this map pack is kinda too late for me. i bought a lot of other games with after MW2 came out. MAG and Bad Company 2 keeps me pretty busy. I wouldve played modern warfare 2 more but once i hit the level cap, i barely played. Frankly it just got old for me, especially when the spawns are so messed up. spawns are still messed up, they spawn the same person you just killed right behind you. I also didnt see the point of going prestige, i mean you dont get anything significant plus it just shows that you played the game a long time and not exactly how good you are.

Im not even going to go into the price. since activision screwed up infinity ward so much, i dont have any incentive, like supporting infinity ward just because they're good developers, to shell out the money.

So for people who payed the base price, they will now have payed over $75 for a game with no server support. I feel sorry for them, but for those who bought the $150 bundle to begin with, I don't feel sorry for them, cause they should have know better.

This game just screams ripoff.

Killzone 2 was a way better experience and thus it's not just the price point it's that why play MW2 multiplayer when their are better multiplayer experiences out there. Like COD 4.

Yes Activision is cashing in on me... D1P here, but before you thumb me down how many of us bought Guitar Hero and all the accessories at least once?

@Mavfan- I have to disagree, I have yet to find a game that gives me an adrenaline rush like HC S&D on CoD(4orMW2) when I'm the last guy and everyone's watching. You'd be surprised how often 1 man can overcome the odds when he's outnumbered in a realistic Modern War setting. :)

@AlienAnge- See you there if you arent afraid of a little HC (or regular) Search & Destroy. :)

I roll my eyes every time someone throws out KZ2 as valid counter to MW2. I own both, and simply put, no one's playing KZ2 online. MW2 is where the pros play.

Sorry Hezzron, but you're mistaken, all the pros have left MW2 and either gone back to the original(which actually had recoil), or picked up a different game, like MAG or BFBC2.

You're joking right? If COD is where the "pros" play, then BC2 and KZ2 are where the "gods" play. I'm sure "pros" need to have the game hold thier hand while they play (perks). Seriously, power ups? COD is more like a sci-fi fps like Halo with it's sillyness like power ups, 50ft knife melees, weapons that shoot bullets in a straight line all the time even in full auto, and super man running.

When it comes to FPS, I need realism, and COD is FAR from that. BC2 and Rainbow Six are the most realistic fps i've played. (if there's more please let me know as I'm open to all realistic shooters)

I'm not trying to knock you but to say a broken game in which requires very little skill to play like COD is where the "pros play" is gonna raise some heads. Plus, I don't think "pros" would keep playing a game that has required a billion updates to make it play properly. :)

@Mysterio & Carl- Let me guess you two are the "pros" sounds to me like you guys are really hating the fact that some of us enjoy MW2 online. If you prefer KZ2 or BFBC2 then go play that. We don't bust you guys' balls for liking either of those when frankly I'd rather be shot in real life than play KZ2 online, BFBC2 has too many vehicles for my taste and it takes too much to kill people in either game.

i won't doubt that mw2 is fun to play. but it is not where the pros play. and there are still a lot of people that play kz2. i was just on today. try playin bfbc2, kz2, or mag the same way you play mw2 and you'll get your a** handed to you.

@ Naztycuts - HC SD? Really? I can't play with big boys like that. I'm still dicking around in TDM (non HC).

Maybe we can find a middle ground and do a little Stimulus one day? My only problem is that damn Sony BT Headset! Mine just doesn't work any more. I charged it one day, used it until it died, and now it won't charge anymore! I'm pretty pissed because wired headsets get in the way of my noob tubing.

I never said I was a "pro", nor do I care if people have fun playing MW2. I was refering to the ignorant comment of "MW2 is where the pros play" when in fact ANYBODY can hop in a game of MW2 and rack up kills as it requires very little skill with weapons that shoot in a constant straight line, power ups, and whatever else that holds your hand through the game.

I hear the word "pro" I think somebody with skill, or somebody that's good. My wife has no experience in fps but her 1st few games in MW2 she'd go 10+ kills. she tried KZ2 and BC2 and was owned (which we already figured but she wanted to try it). She didn't like how the weapons in KZ2 & BC2 "bounce all over the screen" but they hardly did in MW2. She's no "pro".

If you guys like MW2 than power to you, that's awesome, but to say it's "where the pros play" is just bs.

With a 94% average review rating across the net, and the record millions sold, both critics and gamers have spoken loudly about the greatness that is MW2.

If you're too cool to play what's popular (or you genuinely don't like playing it for whatever odd reason), then go play the wannabes.

KZ2's online community might have gotten a bit of a boost with the game's Greatest Hits price drop here in the US, but it was anemic when I was giving it a shot mid last year.....which was before MW2 came out.

...and I know the real "pros" don't play MW2....they play Halo.

No doubt MW2 sold a ton and broke records. It sold a ton because of the hype and COD name branded on it. Selling a TON of copies doesn't make it a great game. Uncharted 2 is a "great" game, but it didn't sell tons or break records. Everybody anticipated MW2 being great but alot were let down.

I got my copy 1 week before launch (I wanted to continue the campaign because in my opinion COD games have the most kick ass campaigns) and even then it required an update. I don't call a game "great" when it had a billion updates released for it because of glitches or whatever.

As I said if you have fun playing it, awesome, but don't make ignorent comments like "it's where the pros play", it makes you look like an ass. No hard feelings huh? :)

mw2 is very fun to play and it has the best superb controls but saying "it's where the pros play" is asinine. you'd never get a 30+ kill streak on kz2, bfbc2 or, kz2. it's more pick up and play than the other three titles.

I would give up my copy (well...my brothers) of MW2 just so they could put back the bfbc2 beta. I want to get bfbc2 but it costs too much. If i trade in mw2, id have to pay 40$ to get it...

I agree with the majority of people, I think its to much for this. I was figuring $4.99 or even $9.99 but not $14.99. I've actually stopped playing this because of the releases since (just cause 2, bioshock 2 and others).

I know coming here and bashing MW2 is in style for some reason, and it'll earn you a few cheap and easy "thumbs up".

However, I'm a big fan of it's online game, so I'm contemplating getting this. I'll probably share it with a friend to make seem more affordable. This pack isn't anymore of a ripoff than other stuff. All DLC is overpriced in my book.

And if you're looking for gamer girls, there's plenty to be found in MW2 online matches.

Nice post. A lot of folks on here bash Activision as if they're the only company trying to make a buck. EA is probably more greedy. IDK, it's amazes me how one company is ok for nickel and diming, but others aren't. From what I've seen of the stimulus pack, cound me in.

I find plenty of matches for KZ2 and my dislike of MW2 has nothing to do with the inability to play it. I was good enough to not get frustrated by it. However I was too big a fan of COD 4 and I felt they almost added TOO MUCH to it's perks, the teleporting knife kills became the new martyrdom. The guns balancing was horrible, I'm a sub-machine gun kind of guy and the ump45 might as well be an assault rifle. Overall yes I loved MW2 multiplayer however that love didn't last as long as COD 4 which I feel was more balanced. Also to keep this rant going Uncharted 2 dlc is very well priced for what you're getting. But to each his own.

I'm not saying modern warfare 2 was crap, i just hate the spawn system. It just pisses me off to be killed by the same person i just killed 2 seconds earlier and respawned right behind me. if they fix this then i'm good with the game. until then, i'll be working on MAG and Bad company 2. I'll probably get it when sony decides to put it on sale but i'm not definitely getting it full price. i can still play the older maps if i wanted to.

as for killzone 2, of course there'll be less people playing it. why? because in video game years, its already an old title. theres a bunch more newer FPS that came out, MAG, Uncharted 2, BC2, and MW2. when COD4 came out, it didnt really have any other competition thats why a lot of people kept playing it for a long time. you cant really compare the amount of people playing killzone 2, a 2+ year old game, to modern warfare 2 which just released last november.

Dude I think every ps3 owner was expecting MW2 to be a grandslam, but the only reason I thought COD4 was so great was because it was the first real online console game I played against other people, and I didnt feel there was a lot to choose from in the month of November 2007. We didnt have an amazing array of awesome titles to choose from back then... I tell ya kids today with their ps slims and broad selection of great games. lol

I still regularly play MW2 online. There's no denying that it is still a worthwhile multiplayer experience. However, I have no intention of buying the stimulus package, since the current maps are still great.Also, I've heard that Crash and Overgrown have been changed a bit from how they were in MW1. Can anyone verify this?

John Id, Killzone 2 was actually released February last year, so it's only a couple of months older. I do agree with you, though, the fact that it was released before MW2 is probably the reason for the waning number of people online

$15 is too much for a few tricks and gimmicks to be honest... i don't know why activision decided on charging this much for a map pack but, they probably just assumed everyone would buy it anyways, thus labeling it as a success...

i don't play MW2 and i never have... but, if i did, i would be pretty upset at that price... you can buy full games on the PSN for less... instead, all you get is a few new "online" maps and a new mode...

pass (if i owned MW2)...

what a load of shite mw2 is. it wont let me dowload the map packs cuz there knowhere to be f*ckin seen!! then infinity ward have the nerve to say on the game itself new maps are available from playstation network store... im fuming.. and thinkin of quiting like you guys..

Overgrown and Crash should be free maps. i already bought them once and once is enough. little tweaks shouldnt warrant another purchase.

And release the other 3 for about $6.99.
